Edited by: Ixianus on 17/07/2007 21:18:44 I hate to put an ad like this here, however, I am a big fan of the original Starflight games, as are, I imagine, some of you.
Starflight 3 has been in development for a number of years now, but public interest is dropping off, so, I thought Id post a link to their site. They need coders and the like, if I knew how to, to a sufficient level, I would contribute, alas.
Anywho, heres the site Linkage
Starflight 2 was the first game I played of the 2, I fell in love with it pretty much immediately, but I think I was maybe 6 at the time, so I didnt really know much about it, just that it was interesting. Having gone back to it in recent years, it still holds its water. Mighty fun game, hopefully someone who sees this will be able to help the project.
Anyone have any interesting memories pertaining to Starflight? Id be interested in hearing them.
Edit: Heres a link detailing a little about the first games as well as providing "replacement copies" wink wink nudge nudge.

i started on starflight when i was very young, i never knew there was a possible ending, so i wondered around and got really rich. (I found every single possible habitable planet and wormhole.. i had my map with pins and strings,. lol)
it was later when i restarted the game (i hated the way the games saved on the actual exe file), i followed the missions and story lines and finished it.
i never got a chance to play SF2 though =(
i love the story line and plot..
they should give some random worm holes in eve online =P findable via exploration

Oh I remember Starflight II. I played it on the Sega Genesis. I loved it to say the least. I had the full folded map always splayed out. I love landing on a planet, mining the crap out of everything and then docking at a station somewhere and getting the isk (oops, credits ). And exploring all the planets and meeting and killing new aliens.
Probably one of the biggest time sinks I have ever had the pleasure of playing on a console game

1st played Starflight in 1989 when I was in the military and had some free time and no money. Great plots and imaginative content, but the tech of the time only allowed crude graphics. It would be interesting to see this game updated with modern graphics and a new flight and combat system Last I heard EA held the copyright, so not likely to see anything
... you will see more and more marketing which in turn will bring you more players to torture. |

The second link I posted has free copies of both games, by the way, I recommend downloading the second game before the first, if youve never played the series.
Also, the team working on 3 actually have the rights to the game as I understand it, or otherwise the permission of the right holder, as I read a bit about it a while back. So they are making an "official" sequel, in an unofficial sort of way. Their forums are down at the moment, or at least last I looked, and theyre reupdating a few other things, such as the wikis. The project isnt dead, just moving slowly.
Also, to Dark, yeah, the graphics look bad, its from the 80's. Its the gameplay, that to me, is still enthralling. Something romantic and enticing about making a crew and heading out in a crappy ship to adventure.

Games like Starflght, Star Command, Future Worlds etc. are the granddadies of the space epic adventure genre. You can't judge them with modern standards, but if you give them a try you'll see that games really were good back in the day. Home of the underdogs has enough oldies to last you a lifetime. ------------------------ I don't believe in sigs. |

I've mentioned Starflight 2 quite a few times over the years. That was my second PC game ever, (and I was a tad older, 11 at the time,) and compared to EVE, content wise it knocks EVE's socks off, still after all these years.
Starflight 3. Yeah, one of those old didn't make it into production games. Very, very old. Personally I think if someone were to make a Starflight-type MMO, I'd drop EVE in a heartbeat. One can dream anyways.
Wouldn't mind seeing an actual Starflight III game produced though (not this free-ware rubbish), just to give these tossers who think Elite was a real game something to see for real. How the universe should immerse you, not vice-versa.
Er, enough EVE bashing though. Ta for the info, but I'd rather see more of an 'official' re-birth of the old classics.
