EQ for about 6ish years. Then I sat in Battlefield 2, BF2142, and Midevil II limbo waiting for something to catch me. Then I tried Vanguard because it was supposed to be the game that actually could keep old EQ players... but massive fail there. I played it for about 2 months and then couldn't stand the bugs, crashes and glitches anymore. And now, here I am.

Hah! Cool! I did newbie training for the evil knights guild, joined them shortly after they were established; it was cool when we finally got a proper home base, right in the middle a blasted wasteland and all that. (I seem to choose my allegiances based on the quality of newbie training given - Ciaran was a really energetic and hardworking head of the guild helpers.)
But monks? That's equivalent to Caldari!

I started out on Discworld MUD and Subspace. Moved on to Vendetta Online, then Guildwars, and finally landed in EVE. Ah yeah. I remember one of my monks trying to start a PvP war with those knights. Fun times. He didn't have my authority to do it, caused drama.
I liked newbie training too. My first promotion was to new-member guild helper.

Came from EnB myself. And guess what corp I joined? I'm actually one of the few people who joined the corp before EnB was announced as dead. Not that that really means anything, but I'm proud of being in on the ground floor.
I used to get It. Then It changed. Now I don't even know what It is.

I was 100% addicted to SWG, played since launch, untill the release of the NGE which compleatly destroyed the game for me.
Then I tryed Guild Wars when it launched but quickly grew bored to tears by it. Has it improved?
Then tryed out WOW and played it off and on in various servers. I tryed both factions, Horde being my favorite. But no matter what class, race or faction I played, I would get compleatly bored with the grind right around level 50.
I also played BF2 quite alot even though its not realy a mmo rpg as such. But its a good one for mindless slaughter of other players.

the first MMO that I played was Galaxies. Quit that shortly after Jedi grinding became the norm. Started EQII after that, played for a while got bored. Then to WoW, got bored with that at about level 40. Tried FFXI for about 10 days. Hated the control system. Then I played the pre-open Beta for Granado Espada. Was a fun game but way to much AFK grinding. Now I'm playing EVE for 1 day and love it so far. I hate being forced into groups in order to level, and from what I've seen so far this game is perfect for that.

Ive played
WoW EQ (never could get it to work with my computer at the time..never got into it really) Planetside DAoC EnB (awesome game! Jenquai Explorer FTW!) CoH CoV
I started Eve waay back in 2004, but took many breaks because the learning curve was so steep, and I didnt have much time to devote to it. Im techinically coming from WoW. Got up to a level 50---51 maybe, Human Pally. I never seem to get very far into games.

Officially, Eve would be my first MMO, having played it in beta. However, I couldn't subscribe until a couple years later. I went back and forth between WoW, and have officially retired from WoW, and now only play Eve as far as MMOs go.
Hammer Judge: Your newbie guide is very biased towards becoming a combat pilot. You need to explain what other big professions are out there and what attributes affect what, and what professions use said attributes. For instance, your guide basically says charisma is useless, but any pilot looking to hand out leadership bonuses or be a trader needs more charisma than the average pilot. ----- Griffin -- 100,000 ISK ECM - Multispectral Jammer Is -- 20,000 ISK Standard Missile Launcher Is -- 10,000 ISK War target sobbing over losing a fight in his T2 fitted Battleship -- priceless |

That is a fair point. Charisma is still weakcompared to int or memory though, even for trade characters, but you're right in that it's not useless.
I just don't have much content on industry or the market, really, eh. I'll put that on my to-do list. |

Started on MUDs in the early 90s, mainly Avatar and Aardwolf (still hang out on Aard every now and then..). Plenty of web-based games. I'm surprised nobody's mentioned that category, they still count as MMOs! Played D2/LoD lots, then GW and WoW. Tried EVE sometime in 2004, but quit after a month. Bad idea to have done that...oh well. I'm back now and here to stay! Of all the online games I've tried, EVE is the only one where a player's actions actually matter. Everything else is one long grind.

Wow.. this makes me feel old.. but here goes....
L.O.R.D.- back in 1993-1995ish (does this count? *grins*) Various MUD/MUSHs up until'98 Ultima Online- release until 2003, and then again for a month in 2005. (lost it's magic) EQ- for a few months. (didn't catch on me) DAoC- from release until early 2004. EnB- early 2004 until the closure announcement *grr!* Back to DAoC, tried Warcraft beta and never went back. Warcraft- From release and currently... Burning out with the drama and endgame barriers, might take a permanent break from it.

DAoC > PlanetSide > SWG > EQ2 > SWG > Lineage II > WoW > Guild Wars > EVE.
Before the emergence of the pay-to-play MMO's I played a free space MMO called Diaspora, and I guess thats why I play EVE.
I had played the EVE trial a total of 4 times (before Planetside, Before EQ and before WoW and now) but this time was the only time I decided to play on beyond my trial.
I also tested CoH, CoV, Saga of Ryzom and I was a "GM for a week" on another MMO that died and I can't remember for the life of me what it was called! |

I started with EQ and left after I did everything there was to do in the original game. (Never got back to play the espansions). Then I did some playing on UO private RP shard.. even GMed one, was pretty fun while it lasted. I had some short flirts with AO and AC, but it didn't last. Started playing E&B and enjoyed it much, but I swithched to EVE soon after EA announced they would close it (got my JE to 150 first though :p). I dragged most of my small guild with me to EVE and they are still playing (and so am I)

Since it wasn't listed in the poll; yep another former UO player here. Was told my first day on EVE in my NPC Guild that I shouldn't admit to that. Honestly, I found UO a great game and enjoyed it for some of the same things EVE has: immense freedom and lots of game depth. Things have changed though. If you are into speed hacks ftw I highly recommend you leave EVE and give UO a whirl.

I'm still playing WoW and have only been playing the Eve demo (12 days left and counting). Played Guild Wars before WoW but didn't like the instancing and the fact that it didn't really have an economy. I really like WoW and I heard that Eve was cool so I thought I'd try it out. Eve seems like more of an 'adult' game than WoW. Still undecided about Eve. Like the graphics, but the ship control isn't very exciting. It seems like more of a strategy game than anything else.
