Edited by: Yougot Fubarred on 18/07/2007 17:03:29 I think its funny that when the dude thieved that Evol or whatever corp, the GMs step in and ban his character pending full investigation. Is this CCP's normal procedure for a corp thieft? Id think that would take up an inordinate anount of their time...

Edited by: Lady Natacha on 18/07/2007 17:05:29 Yes, they do this to make sure some exploit or violation of the EULA was not done to obtain the stuff.
They have since cleared the person involved and reinstated the account, it was a legit theft.
A very good handling of this on CCP's part.

No way I am defending BoD here, but I think if you petition a corp theft as an exploit they will at least check, and if sizable CCP will temp-ban so the stuff does not disappear so they have a "paper trail".

So they do this for EVERY corp theft?? Wow... CCP has a LOT more employees that I thought Considering I thought that theft and spying were allowed in this game, that might be a LOT of time JUST spent investigating corp thefts ESPECIALLY cause im sure that if I were CEO of a corp an someone tyhieved me, the first thing I would do is make out a petition... ostensibly to make sure the rules were followed, but honestly, it would be out of revenge... *Whine* *Whine* *Cry* Go back to playing WoW EVE is too advanced for you

They SUSPENDED him for what, a couple of hours, while they checked wether all was done BY the "infiltrator alt" and not password-stealing or account-sharing.
If anything, it means it was 1) a HUGE corp theft 2) he got those rights very sneakily through deep cover social engineering, as such as not even the leadership of the corp knew what he could do
Sure, you can say they overreacted and should have investigated him "in the free", but I guess I'm going to have to point to #1 up there, then wonder "how much is A LOT when BoB is involved" ? Anybody want to make bets as to how much was dilapidated ?

From what I understand the investigation was done because of the size of the theft. Sure corps get stolen from every day, but not for 300 billion.

Here's how it most likely went down:
Account no one's seen online in month logs in. This player starts hoovering corp hangars. Other players limit access to stop damage. Other players petition first player because they think he's a hacked account.
CCP receives petition, checks and notes that a TON of stuff just got nicked from the most politically volatile alliance in the game, agree that the potential for hackery is higher than average, takes the safe route and locks things down for a bit while they check into this, contact the player behind the account and ask him to confirm he was controlling it.
Then they unban it and CAOD explodes.
The ban wasn't because he stole from BoB. The ban was because someone petitioned him as a hacked account.

They prolly petitioned him for stealing acc. passwords or something, which forced the GMs to investigate.
As long as you have never petitioned a corp-theft of a proper size and CCP told you you can go to hell they dont care, I'd refrain from blaming CCP to favor BoB in this case.
Anyway, wonder how the hell he got access to all that stuff.

As Wrangler and I stated towards the end of this thread, the investigation into the account was only due to the size of the heist and to ensure no EULA violations took place (account hacking or sharing, etc.), certainly not because of who the victim is regardless of what the conspiracy theorists would have anyone believe. The player's account has been returned to him and I believe he has been compensated with an extra day or two of game time for the inconvenience.
As for the discussion being moved to CAOD, the architect of the heist can post with his main whom he has already identified. The discussion is more fitting to that channel than GenDisc.

Intersting. So if a n00b mines all day for a month in order to get some stuff and someone steals that stuff nothing happens, but if an alliance that is known for getting free bpos from corrupt devs and exploiting bugged complexes gets assets stolen then its bannage time?

Edited by: Orivanna on 18/07/2007 18:22:07 Oh look! It's nonsense to say that "CCP wants to cheat at it's own game!!"
Logically thinking, there is no purpose whatsoever for all of CCP to be backing BoB in their own game. They have better things to do... like spend the money they earn from working on EvE on social things in real life.

Does this mean that your 'war' against Molden Heath pirates never happened? (you know, the war that made electus matari run away with their tails between their legs)
But enough of that, clearly CCP treats rich people better than those that are not that rich.

Honestly, why do you even play if you feel the deck is so stacked against you? Read the statement. Due to the high value, it was investigated as a matter of course. The fact it was a BOB hangar is irelevant.
You take what is offered. And that must sometimes be enough. |

I play because I like the game.....does this somehow render me unable to form an opinion? (no seriously, do asnwer)
The point is, theft is theft and it doesnt matter how much was stolen as the main damage done is emotional. Some poor dude mining for months in order to afford a t1 bpo will suffer just as much as an alliance that got t2 bpo's for free from devs.
If you cant see that, then there no point in arguing with you any further.

You're right, it shouldn't be in General Discussion, but seeing as how it's corp theft wouldn't Crime and Punishment have been a more fitting venue? If this was politically motivated sabotage of a corp in opposing alliance I can see where it should be in CAOD. If it was greed and theft it should probably be in C&P.
