As anyone subscribed to the Arek'Jaalan mailing list is undoubtedly aware, it is being used as a forum substitute rather than an alert system mailing list. Discussions which would be best conducted on a forum are taking place, spamming recipients and spawning many branches of the same topic, where you have to read 2-3 mails to get the full picture on a hot topic.
Would it be possible to find space for Arek'Jaalan projects on either this subnet, or would it be possible (even preferable) to create the Arek'Jaalan project a subnet of its own? We already have a wiki subnet, a mailing list, why not a forums subnet? Forums are far more conductive to discussion than mailing lists or wikis. |

I find that reading 3 mails is as easy as reading one.
Were the chosen topic on Galnet confirmed as being for open discussion and the mailing list being denied as a place for open discussion we might find ourselves examining the latest topic from PIE Inc. or Goonswarm and missing hot discussions.
No offence to either, on the contrary there are regular anouncements and discussions pertaining to the two.
A standalone topic pertaining to Arek'Jaalan related matters may quickly submerge should several anouncements be made at inconvenient times.

I miss a few days and the back log of mail gets to the point of overwhelming. Especially the Re: Re: Re: chains.

I think it's a fantastic idea and we should move to ghettoize all Arek'Jaalan discussion ASAP so it doesn't keep clogging up everywhere else. |

How about simply having a discussion mailing list and keep the current one as an announcement mailing list? If people don't want to read the discussion, they only subscribe to the main mailing list. Simple and elegantly solved. CEO of Ghost Festival :: Co-Executor of Naraka. Blog: Diary of a Pod Pilot |

IDK what you're on bout with goons and PIE, these forums seem to stay pretty clean. But yah, just thinking a forum would be a nicer place to do discussions, would avoid the mass documenting of mails etc etc. The mailing list would then be announcements and stuff. New projects, project updates, requests for stuff. |

Some stratification as ms. Arkenath suggested would definitely help. If you plan to make a fully fledged scientific report about the liasions between your chest hair and sleeper technology, give me an option of not having to read through it. .domination malakim .stillwater |
