How well do Amarr ships pvp? I know generally you need to sub out energy turrets for hybrids, but.... It seems Gal are just clearly the choice for pvp... Im worried about the Amarr not standing a chance in their ships. :)

Edited by: Sparkius on 19/07/2007 18:30:11 Amarr ships are armor tanked, so they are usually more highly regarded than shield tanked ships (more free mid slots). However, they are cap intensive ships, and are vulnerable to nosferatu. Not using lasers on Amarr ships is a contentious issue; most people agree it is fine if the ship does not have weapon bonuses for the ship skill.
Amarr are also regarded as being skill-intensive for damage and fitting purposes. Some Amarr boosts came with Revelations 2, but most of us are expecting more in the future.
On the plus side, Amarr have ships that can be adapted to many roles, especially in group PvP.
EDIT: The biggest drawback for Amarr in PvP is the 2 EANM + 1 DC "omnitank" that strongly resists the only two damage types done by Amarr: EM and Thermal.

Amarr ships are great tankers, with the right setup and ship, you can tank a lvl3 mission all day without ever firing back.
But their weapons suck big time. More damage can be done with T1 rails than T2 lasers, even with T2 crystals loaded in the lasers. Lasers can only do EM/thermal damage so the enemy needs only two hardeners to tank you. All other weapons can deal all four types of damage and are harder to tank for that reason.
A good combo is an Amarr ship for it's tanking ability and hybrid weapons for damage and low cap use to keep cap for the tank. It takes very high skills to passive tank shields for PVP but it is possible and very hard to break since it requires no cap and nossing is pointless. Caldari ships are usually best for passive shield tank but lack mids for EW due to the tank requirements. On the other hand, it leaves low slots available for heat sinks and other related damage mods.

Another option for Amarr in small gang/solo pvp is to go with their drone ships. The arbitrator is an excellent drone cruiser and the tech 2 recon cruiser versions are regared as excellent pvp ships. They keep the advantages of amarr ship design and avoid the drawbacks of amarr weapon design by using drones as their primary dammage systems.

Wrong on two points. Hybrids only deal Kinetic and Thermal rather than all four types, and passive shields require BOTH med and low slots, making passive shielding one of the weakest weapon platforms (unless you want to sacrifice shielding for firepower).

Amarr have some of the best PvP ships in the game such as the arbitrator, curse, pilgrim, revelation, archon, etc. along with some of the worst like the omen, retribution, apocalypse, etc. That being said, the difference between the best and the worst in EVE is much smaller than in other games. You can still be effective in PvP no matter what you fly, it's just a matter of being creative and working at it.
As far as picking a race goes, amarr is a great choice if you like nossing/drones and cruisers or if you're interested in getting into capitals. Outside of that they're still decent and are in the process of being buffed, so could easily be overpowered in a few months ;)

Ewar is life for a frigate gang, which puts the Retribution at a major disadvantage.

I could see a use for a Retribution in a frigate gang, if you needed a tanking dpsmobile. But for the Amarr assault frigates, Vengeance is definitely better. 3 midslots gives you enough to fit tackling gear; if you don't need tackling gear, then you can go with some of the other setups we teach in BASIC.

I fly Amarr exclusively, and I would say they pvp quite well.
