I passed by Jita recently and some poor bastard seemed to attack me (and got blown up by turrets). I dont know why, my cargo hold was empty at the time. Was it simply because I was flying a covops?
At what point do the pirates see it as worthwhile to gank me if they see whats in my hold? Or will they just chance it if they see a covops in jita?

It starts next Sunday.
Whenever their approximated losses < their gains, you can consider yourself ganked.

Its not that simple. Sane gankers consider several things: 1. How much value is there in the cargo? 2. How much will drop? This is about 50% of the total value. So if theres 200mill in a ship, one can expect to earn 100mill. 3. Can one kill it before oneself blow up? 4. Is the security hit worth it?
There you go

Well I stupidly went afk 1 jump from Jita myself in a cov ops, and I did have alot of stuff in my cargo, the most expensive stuff got toasted but the killer got 2 snake implants for his trouble, worth the hurricane loss he had. ------------------------------------------------------------------ I don't think ill ever get it right... |

suiciding has become very popular lately. For that reason I pay a little more attention when I'm moving stuff around on my other account. I think it's neat actually. --

Sometimes I dont have enough capacity in my alt hauler with 11k m¦ to scoop all the loot. And yes its very profiteble at times.
I always scan peoples cargo before attacking them. If they have like lots of corpum repairs, or pos towers in their cargo i go for them. I usualy also scan covert ops. Some people put valuable items in them, thinking cloaked transport will protect them from this kind of piracy. It does, but not when they go afk at some point.

ganking something greater than cruiser = suicide with no purpose (unless you have 50+ ppl in destroyer sitting at the gate)

Seems that suicide ganking is rather popular atm. As others say it's just a matter of risk v reward so if he was in a frig or something then losing it for a chance to grab ur cloak is pretty good return.
Sad to see some of the decent pvp alliances such as triumvirate even trying to suicide freighters these days.

I just think it's kind of a lame way to make money that's all. Just my opinion of course.

I was flying my alts coveter into roid belt In high sec, noticed a drake sitting their didnĘt pay to much attention to him at first(my fault I know). Next thing I know im getting shot. I looked for the rats but it was the drake firing(bought craped myself) and wondering what he was thinking. I was lucky cause concord came real quick blew him outa the sky well before I was + shields. Only reason I am talking about this is that he must have been fully fitted with t2. Made a killing off the fittings I sold and have + set of t2 heavy launchers J. Just struck me as odd that he would go after a mining bardge in .07 with that type of fittings

If the alts name was anything like yours, he probably figured you were an isk farmer.

Just a thought, but since many ships insure for more then they're worth (ignoring insurance and mod costs) a suicide ganker could just be getting rid of an insured ship they don't want any more. They'd be getting more money then from selling either way, and if some nice loot drops from the ship they gank, so much the better

When covops cloaks were 70mil I used to suicide them in hopes of a 60+mil profit.

Not sure that it's ccps fault, i think it's just more lazy and careless people who think it's a good idea to carry valuables through a known gank point in a paper thin ship. If people wisened up, there would be less to gank and most would move on to something else.
Use a sick tank,a blockade runner and scout or super fast ship and don't go afk with fat lootz

Wasn't concord supposed to get a buff, instajamming and killing drones?
Is it still common (or viable) that freighters get ganked in High-sec, post concord-fix?

Edited by: Guyute on 21/07/2007 17:11:31 suicide ganking is awesome. its not the sort of thing i like todo (too boring) but i 100% support all suicide gankers. hopefully it will encourage less afk play. and make real yarrsters look even better lol

not alot of people will use a drake to take out barges :/ a t1 vexor is good enough to take out a t1 barge

I think it's lame as well but wouldn't so much if the insurance on ship losses were void for illegalacts in empire!
