The reason is because eve is by far the greatest and best mmorpg, that is an opinion yes, but the objective of an rpg is to make a game as realistic as possible. Eve has done that. I have always dreamed of a game where you could make a living and live in the game as well. I know there are they that do make money off eve, But I am noticing more and more sites that sell the currency, are no longer selling it. This scares me, because the one reason I invest in the game is to see it grow. So I want to know if anyone can tell me where on the site I can see how many active users there are. I know where to find out how many online there are (obviously) but this is a game where many people, arent online, but are still playing. So. If anyone knows... Please fill me in. Thanks:)

Edited by: Asestorian on 20/07/2007 13:23:01 CCP have stated they have something like a bit over 200,000 active accounts in EVE (and constantly growing at a steady pace as it has always done).
Also, I'm confused. Your scared because there are less ISK selling sites O_O
Well, the reason for that is you can legally buy ISK through GTCs basically, as well as at the same time allowing someone else who isn't as rich in RL the chance to play EVE without having to pay real money themselves. This also gives CCP all the money. Only people who are stupid *****s buy ISK off ISK sellers now.

Don't worry Eve is growing strong.
The reason you are seeing less ISK-Money sales is that CCP has never allowed it, and they are getting better at stopping it. If you buy ISK you can expect that the ISK will be removed. The only legit way to buy ISK is to buy game time and trade it for ISK. Buy anything else and you can expect GM intervention.
You can expect Eve to be around for years to come.

This could quite possibly be caused by the fact that in EVE, the playerbase has the tools to fight the RMT ISK farmers, and has no qualms about using them. The players are making it so that it is not profitable to farm ISK for RMT trade, which causes the currency sellers to drop EVE from their list. This is a GOOD thing! The fact that the RMT ISK sellers are dropping EVE does not indicate that the game is losing popularity. There are more people playing EVE now than ever before. -=^=-

No no, the buying of eve isk is perfectly legal, as it is delivered from friend to friend and no gm will ever take the money from you because a thousand million isk cost 70 canadian dollars. Thats theft and eve would be shut down.

Well, although I'm not so sure it is "illegal" to sell ISK for RL cash, CCP certainly have the right to remove from you what they own. In this case the virtual money. And they do, regularly.

Isnt there a part in the EULA that says "All items, characters and anything else in game is property of CCP"?

eve is a solid game, lag and desyncs aside. sometimes (usually most times) they'll patch something and break something else, which is common in all mmos. but they are all changing and upgrading things as well as ading more skills, ships etc. last major patch we got 8 new ships (2 for each race).
selling isk on ebay is against the EULA, and you'll get banned, although they'll usually just destroy the isk first and warn you, etc.
but the game is always changing for the good and soon(tm) there will be a new engine
do your learning skills first, they WILL pay off.

This is simply untrue. CCP removes bought ISK all the time and got the full rights to do it as of the EULA you agree on when playing.

is selling GTC for isk still legal? that's effectively real money for isk, but on the other hand helps those who dont have a credit card to pay for the game...

Is it me or has this number been floating around for quite some time? Sounds like Eve has reached the max number of subscribers.
Also, when I log in, on average I see the same number of connected players than about 6 months ago.

Well, now that I think about it the last number I heard was more along the lines of 230-250,000. I just couldn't remember.
I don't think the Devs have updated us on that number recently though.

I guess then that the number of connected players might give us an indication of an increase/decrease in active acounts.
Peak numbers have hovered around 28-32k players for a while, IIRC

The more logical conclusion would be that the same number is repeated over and over again by people who are parrotting each other.

Coldfront shows the number of online players has been pretty steady since the release of Revelations at the end of last year. The weekly peak of online users is up from ~25000 last year to ~35000 now, the bulk of the growth occuring around the release of Revelations. =AFK=

That is by far the best answer so far.
So, according to the graph, the number of users seem on a plateau since Nov'06

eve is unique for many reasons. one of my favorites is their strict policy on ISK sellers. nothing ruins an mmo more than this trend. WoW, FFXI, everquest...you name it. all of these mmo's are corrupted by it, and frankly not worth the time.
