I've been flying caldari interceptors for a while, but I always had issues with keeping my orbit within scrambler range when the target moves at 2k or more in a straight line. Is there a rather simple trick to solving the problem?
My typical setup is no rigs, 2x OD II, 1x nanofiber II. I tried with I-Stab, but that didn't seem to solve anything. My navigation skills are mostly in 4's or 5's.
Any advice you can give, other than "fly in manual mode", or "buy faction gear". I try to keep the setup cheap and IMO aeronautics rigs are too expensive. Are matari interceptors better at tackling that Crow (I do plan to train matari frig to 5)?

Edited by: Admiral Shallow on 20/07/2007 23:38:17 when your orbitting with your MWD on, always orbit low than what you want to..
I'd say 12km would be a good orbit point will bring you to around 15-17km, maybe try 15km orbit an that should go out to around 19-20km, jus play around with it
Oh and i think Nanofibers help with acceleration to keep that orbit as close as possible, if your target is moving fast, i could be wrong though

Edited by: Kamen on 21/07/2007 00:22:27 Stationary ans slow targets are not a problem. I do have it set to around 15km usually, but a fast ship will "yank" me out of orbit. That's the problem. After I start coming around his "tail", I can't turn fast enough to get back into 24 and he warps away.

Yes, that would be a fast ship beating your ability to keep up.
Get better stuff or live with it.
If a ship can pull 2+km/s it wil get away, at least briefly, from an orbiting ceptor. See, it turns out that just setting an orbit range ISNT enough to guarantee a scramble. If the target starts moving quite fast set your ship to keep at range 20km.

gotta mix between manual orbit, orbit, and approach.
the more ya do it, the better you'll get ---------

i set orbit at 19k.. that let me orbit exactely at 24k:) i use, best named mwd, 1 x inertia, 2 x ovrdrive.

Well say I used a combination of Mimiru's and your advice... Which "better stuff" would help out? I assume I could rig for mass, and put in 2 i-Stabs and 1 OD?

try mass rigging and nanofibers as orbiting is solely about acceleration.

Just take a hit and get your orbit distance closer.
I take it your solo piratting in that thing right? If not, why arnt you using a web?

a web in a crow is almost suicide. - crow's advantage is keeping long distance and still being able to dish out damage.

don't fit 2 nanos if you've got 2 polys, the stacking makes one nano useless... 2 OD2s, 1 nano2, and 2 polys works, but I prefer 3 OD2s... you could go 2 ODs and an istab
learn to fly manually, there's no real trick to being a good tackler, it takes skill and practice... it's not just "orbit, F1-F3, win"
but you'll find that out the first time you get webbed by a blasteranis

erm i never had any problems stacking polycarbon and nanos, atm i use 3 polycarbon, 1 nano and 2 od2(not a crow obviously)- the 3rd od2 on the other hand is pretty much useless, you're faster replacing it with a nano2, even when going in a straight line.
