Sitting in my rifter... loving it. But I'm so confused... shield tank? Armor tank? 3 mids 3 lows...
I'm finding in even level 1 missions I'm getting ripped up using 3 150 autocannons and 1 launcher. (The autocannons have only a 1k optimal range with depleted uranium hehe.)
I can out maneuver turrets no problem... but missiles... ouch

High 3x 150 Autocannon's 1x Rocket Launcher
Med Medium Shield Extender 1-2x Shield Res Amps 0-1x 1mn Afterburner I
Low 3x Shield Power Relay
For starters.
Reference this thread as to why using autocannon's are good: http://scrapheap-challenge.com/viewtopic.php?t=59 Gank missile users first, orbit at 500 with Afterburner on.

Sounds better than the armor tank setup I had (was running out of cap so fast.)
Nice sig btw :)

Ah the Rifter, so versitle it could do either.
For just missions I'd suggest Shield tanking. AB, med extender, and booster in the mids, low's with gyros, and...

Edited by: Baron Fletcher on 21/07/2007 16:57:37 Edited by: Baron Fletcher on 21/07/2007 16:53:56 The joy and curse of minmatar ships is there is often more than one way to rig them that makes sense. For running missions I would use a passive shield tank like the above poster described. My personal setup would be to go without the afterburner and maximize shield resistance and regeneration. Its not as much fun perhaps as the "im Minni i go freaking fast" approach, but you end up with a ship that NEVER runs out of cap and has a monster passive shiled tank for a t1 frig. For pvp you need to shift to an armor tank to make those mid slots available for tackling gear.
And yes, that means in the long run as Minmatar you want good skills with both Armor and Shield tanking, as well as Projectiles, Missiles, and Drones. Min ships can be very skill point intensive to fly well.

Edited by: Shiodome on 21/07/2007 18:10:12 there's a 'ships and modules' forum with a large number of setups in the 'ship setups index' stickied thread.
the best thing you could do you be to look in the frigate section there, not only will you see a few setups to choose from, but the questions and debates between players over their setups will help you understand how they work and what suits your style.
always best to learn something than memorize something
edit: and yeah, fly caldari... but even as a t1 frig, rifer is still my favourite ships
