i've only been in this game for 5 months now and i keep hearing about the jovians and that they can be dev or CCP staff member. i've been playing close to 10 MMORPG and i never saw this lvl of weirdness in any game EVER, does the dev have ANY idea what to do with the jovians ? why put them in the storyline if you have no plans or anything for them in the futur. i know that in the story the jovians are lightyears ahead of every other races and that they don't seem to want to get involve with anyone but still. why talking about them, giving them their own space in the game and not do anything about them, we all know that GM don't need excuses to get in a game and police other player who cause trouble. so why creating a race just for GM, that dosen't make any sence.
can some dev enlight me on this ?

The Joves have certainly had their importance.
For one, their responsibility in the beginnings of the Minmmatar Rebellion.

The jove are a big part of the game's history and back story, a huge part in fact. As for their actual part in the game well.... there's an expansion coming out after Revelations so who knows, they could make an appearance in some way. Time will tell.

I've played the odd MMO as well and I think its good that CCP comes up with a plausible idea for people that have more advanced technology (staff/gm's/devs). It doesn't hurt the game in any way and if anything adds a bit of flavour. They use their own space for tournaments and the like (iirc) and I for one would rather see a Jovian ship then just a generic "Dev Boat".
Aside from that as some people have pointed out, they have quite a bit of influence in the history of eve with the pod technology and other things.
Also - why not?
Just my 2 cents.

So far time has been telling. I remember when they claimed the Jove would be playable.

yeah maybe they were important or big shot but i couldn't care less about the ol days, i'm talking about now. why would you put a race in a game and do squat with them. i heard that EVE has been out for 2 years, that's a long time for a RPM to be out and not at least do small thing related to a race that's in it since the begining.

Actually its over 4 years and fast approaching its 5th year, they might add jovians to the player races but seeing as they only have like 5 jove ships none of which have bonuses theres no point in adding them, Dev's create jove chars and that makes sense really :) ---------

1.) Eve started in 2003. 2007-2003!=2 2.) The Jove have had things done with them. Just looking for Fullerene Shards. Or be on the test server at 11-12GMT 3.) Some people enjoy RPing and game history. 4.) Assuming the Jove are still gonna be playable, what we have seen of them, it will take a longgggggg time to balance them.

yeah they would have to balance them but not that much, it could be a race to be at war with and u have to be a big ammount of ship to take them out like some kind of event like the 4 races banding together to take them out or something

EVE is evolving constantly. (EVEolving?)
And yes, such kind of things as non-playable races are rather commonplace. Of your traditional swords and sorcery MMOs WoW, GW and LotRO all have unplayable races. Coming back to space, the Jove are a bit like EVE's equivalent to Amananth (from Jumpgate). Or, if you like, magic. You need advanced technology, the Jove exchange it for information. No need to explain how the tech was invented or works, it's Jove! So, they are a plot device.
And about being ingame, there is some Jove art (ship and character models) ingame, but they are in no way balanced, but have only placeholder values. It's almost the same as saying that why we can't fly the Emperor Station in Amarr, it's ingame!

The Show Info screen works.
EDIT to avoid triple post: The "band four races to take out the Jove" has been suggested a gazillion times by various people ignorant of the back story. The Jove aren't quite like that. Also, they've cut all stargates to their space, so getting there would take very long by regular drives, not counting being shot by Jove. The one shot, one kill mothership isn't ingame, though, but as the story is concerned, it exists.

hey, every races can change there mind, a small faction can turn evil and try to take over and a strike team would have to be set together to take them out. titan ship could warp the team in jove space and begin the preamptive strike

As already said. Jovians have been important for the back story of this game. CCP said they are involved in a future story.
I'm just wildly guessing we will never ever see Jove in standard play, but if CCP ever has to close doors and end this game they will open up a sealed envelope with a end-game storyline. First killing off Concord and then going after Chribba and his veldspar.

What I don't understand from your argument is why the Jove should be fully implemented into the game other than that they already exist. I personally see nothing wrong with a race such as the Jove existing, simply for the sake of existing, events and backstory.
If Jove ships were released and used, they would have to be balanced. However, that suddenly goes against their backstory. EVE places a great deal of importance on its backstory you know, even if it doesn't force people to follow it all the time.
So, what are your reasons for wanting the Jove fully ingame?

Please, for the love of god, no common threat banding the universe (player base) togeather. Nothing kills a game fast enough then the tired cliche "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" thats being used in todays varous methods of story telling.
Honestly, I think its great that the developers took the time to give a justification for their actual presence in the game, something that that ive noticed seems to be very important to CCP when you look at the backstory section.

yes its a whine on the part of the OP in my opinion. "OMG why you no develop this race devs, this is stupid & lazy" not a direct quote ofc.. :)

In all seriousness though, its good having a race like the Jovians in the backstory - helps to explain some of the technology and so on in game. -------

In the dark far far away, there lives a Former human race, evolved far more than anything else.
No longer human, diffrent in thinking diffrent in goals, than anyone else.
They are planning, and the Jovians will be there key to victory while they are there sworn fo, they want the jovians destoryed by all means.
what will happen is that a jovian sleeper agent, in command of a jovian fleet, will be triggerd, to attack all the others.
and those will force the rest of us to attack and destory them all.
a New jump gate will come, from the dark, and humans will take the bait, and those start the JOvian war on our path to Revange.

Year 116 - ten years after the EVE Online saga began.
Realizing their bloodline would soon come to the end, the Jovians give the entire knowledge base of their civilization to the Gallente in the form of a giant computer core, and sacrifice themselves to prevent the Amarrians (now beings of pure energy) from taking over the universe, thus providing a quick and effective method of removing the Jove from the EVE storyline once and for all.

Right now the Jovians are important to the storyline, and in the future, they could be a bigger part of the gameplay. CCP wants to keep their options open I think, and by including the 5th race from the beginning they wouldn't have to make up a half-arsed reason to add it later.
