I am fairly new to POS warfare, and I know that lowsec/0.0 POS's are usually killed with the help of Capital ships.
We are at war with a corp and found one of thier POS's the other night, and I'd really like a chance to destroy it.
Without the help of Capital ships, wont battleships be killed almost instantly? Or do Highsec POS's not get the option of using Capital equivalent towers?
Any insight will be apprecaited
Also, I'm posting with an alt to not reveal my plans to the war targets.
Thx

And you can blow up the guns before you start trying to take down the tower now. So Battleships, remote reps, rep drones and shoot the guns before you shoot the tower. -----

I'm at work and dont have the intel in front of me.. That being said, assume the POS is relativly light on defenses. What do you recommend for sustained Damage Per Second?
We are a relativly small corp and I may call in a Merc corp to help if I need to.

I dont know much about the logistics, but if you are willing to hire a merc corp, I suggest REPO Industries, they are a great corp and are very good at getting the job done. They have had experiance taking down posses before.

It all depends on size and setup. If it's a deathstar (unlikely for a hi-sec pos), you'll need at least 20 bs's and some support. If it's a small or medium research station, you'll probably need a min of 10 bs's and some support. Snipers of course are helpful. This of course is under the impression that they do not send in a fleet to ruin your day.

The first thing you need is a war dec.
The second thing is let the pos aggro you first before you fire on it.
The third thing is that a small pos will tank around 100 dps at peak, med is 200 dps and large 400 dps. Just a rule of thumb without specifics.
You will need lots of ammo. Preferably ammo that avoids the native resists of the pos's shield and is cheap to buy in bulk. I recommend using lots of ships and sentry drones once the guns are knocked out.
These are real basic things but you need to get your logistics sorted out ahead of time and have lots of bs.

We are at war with them already, but is thier still a Concord bug where the POS has to agro us first?
They dont know that we've found the pos, and I'm planning on making this a 1 time Op because of the fact that they might:
-Send in a fleet to protect it (and try to kill our BS's, causing us a lot of lost ISK) -Unanchor the POS and pack it up -Add a lot of defenses
Once we attempt this I'll post with my main and let you guys know how things went

It used to be a bit more dangerous in the past when the guns would still be active while shooting the pos but if you can take them out then an incoming fleet is less of an issue.
Even if they packup the pos sit there in a cloaked ship or scanning alt and get ready to jump them as the pos unanchors. Warp in an alt hauler and scoop the "loot"

im wondering how long it would take for a blasterthron with sentrydrones to take down a small pos solo
because there seems to be alot of posses in highsec without the bubble around it and without sentrys

Intel first and foremost to save you time and expense later on.
Take a cov-ops and warp to 70 km from the pos while cloaked fly around the pos and take notes on all the modules (guns/ewar/hardners etc). (a) map the gun and ewar placements and determine if there is a position around the pos that is vulnerable (ie the pos guns cannot shoot through the shield so there may be holes in their defenses). If the holes exist (they probably will with high sec pos), start making bookmarks of those locations as warp-in points for your bs. Best holes will be those very close to the shield edge (short-range ammo has far more hitting power.
If no holes exist, map the locations that have the least amount of DPS from gun placements and bm sniper positions outside of ewar range (over 150 km).
Next step is to count the number of shield hardners and determine their type. From this data calculate the lowests resists and plan your fleet's ammo load out accordingly.
From here the most important part is to assemble the best possible support ships to assist in the pos takedown. Having a legion of logistics ships available will make your job much easier. Remote shield/armor and cap reppers along with maintenance drones will help your damage dealers make quick work of the gun placements
If you find yourself going up against a large tower set up in spongestar configuration, just fuggedaboutit, not worth the utter boredom.
Hope this helps.

I don't think I'd put guns on a hi-sec POS at all.
Pre patch it took between 6-10 dreads a couple of hours to put a POS into reinforced if it had 14 hardeners on it. If you can still fit that plus the other structures you want think how many BS it would need and how long it would take them to do that to a large POS without dreads!

There is CPU and grid left for labs/production facilities after 14 hardeners? No one deploy a sovereignty POS in highsec...

Just to letcha know if they have stront in the pos it will go into reinforced mode, in which case you will need to schedual a second op as close to the time it comes out of reinforced as possible

you could try and bleed it dry, camp the system and try and kill the fuel guys
second and of more dubious nature, get a spy to unload the pos, takeing it offline at your convinence.

With a large POS there probably is. We used setups like this in 0.0 and still had grid/cpu to fit guns, disruptors and hangar arrays and the ship fitting one if I remember correctly. This was before the POS changes and since I got so bored with the whole POS scenario I have no idea if you can still do this. I spose if you are at war with someone and have stuff in hi-sec you would have to compromise your fitting anyway.
PS what do you mean about a sovreignty POS?

Building/holding/taking an outpost "like the NPC stations you know of but player owned" requires that you have soveriegnty of the system the outpost is placed in. In order to hold soveriegnty you need have PoSes set to claim soveriegnty over the system.
To take over a system these PoSes need to be destroyed and replaced with a majority of these soveriegnty claiming PoSes, before you can take an outpost. As such these PoSes tend to be covered in defensive armaments with litte/no room left over for anything else. Of course you can't claim soveriegnty if NPCs already own the system. ______________________

Most high sec pos's are relatively lightly defended so as long as your ships have some repping drones, you'll be fine.
As for the "wait for aggression or get concordokkened" bug, that was fixed with the deployment of revelations 2.0. I was part of an op that took out a large tower in highsec empire just after the patch and everything went without a hitch.

What I really meant was what has a sovreignty POS got to do with this topic because it's about attacking them in hi-sec. I sort of understand the POS basics regarding sov even though I gave up on them ages ago.
Thanks for the answer though it confirms they are basicly the same.

Check out the size and type of the guns, kill them first and then get ready for a looooong BS siege especialy if its a large lol.
Id hire a capital merc corp for the single job depending on how much you wanna kill it.

To sophisticatedlimabean you can't fly capital ships in high sec.

At most you might get some loot drop from a corp hangar, or a bpc from a research lab. Note the word might.
Generally researchers have their pos in a system with an npc station so the bpos can be left at the station. So you'd be very unlikely to get a BPO drop unless they are really stupid.
Profitable? No. Would you do a significant amount of economic damage to a corp by blowing up a pos/modules? Yes.

If it has scramblers you want to knock them out first in case a hostile fleet jumps you or a ship decides it has to warp off.
Medium guns tend to do the most to BS sized targets and ought to be a second target. Small guns are a royal pain in the ass. They have 1/4 the hp of a Large gun or warp battery but interceptor sized signatures. They will have to be painted if your planning on knocking them out with BS (painting drones drones work well) and even so they take as long to disable as a Large gun.
In 0.0 a few carriers supporting a BS fleet with remote reppers can knock out the hardware with minimal risk if uninterupted. Going to need lots of repper drones in High sec if the pos has guns.
If I was making a high sec pos I would go with a lot of hardeners, a few medium and small guns, maybe a warp disrupt battery or two and have a guy sitting there to manage the stront level for optimal play time time of my corp. Enough Hardeners and it might take a 100 BS to reinforce the tower between downtimes.
