A good set up for noob that would get you to lvl 3 missions is:
high: Heavy missles mid: 2-3 large shield extender, invul field, hardener low: shield power relay
this with bc 4 is a excellent passive tank, and with enough skills, you can go passive resistance for the hardeners
I ran level 2s and 3s with this setup with 1.2M skill points very successfully (BC level 2 at first). If you can't sit there and ignore the NPCs in a level 2 then you really are unlucky The Blockade is about the only level 2 that can stress a BC, and that is only if you don't pay attention.
Use Assault launchers until you get your skills in missiles a little higher though, as mentioned above the heavies will do less damage with lower skills against frigates. If you can't use Assaults, then fit good small launchers but shift as soon as you can as the medium launchers have a higher ROF and hence better damage.
Don't bother with a AB, just use your frigate as a salvager afterwards; a Ferox is too slow to salvage with even with an AB, I used to call mine the "Pregnant Hippo" for obvious reasons. When you get enough ISK built up then fit a destroyer with 5 salvagers and 3 tractors to clean up after the missions; you can salvage about any mission including level 4s in about 10 minutes that way. Use the 2 high slots open on the Ferox to put a couple of fast-shooting light rails (125s or 75s) to help deal with drone missions and pop close flying frigates a little quicker.
And definitely get drones to at least 4 (trains really fast, 2 days at most) and scout drones to 3-4 also, they do a lot of damage once you figure out how to keep the little buggers obeying. Train the rest of your drone skills once you get your other "required" skills a bit higher.. <-----------> Factional Warfare:

Hi: 5 Heavy Launchers
Med: 2 LSE Extenders II 1 Target Painter 2 Rat specific hardeners
Low: 4 SPRs
But really, you shouldn't blow your entire savings on a ship + fittings without the means to replace the ship + fittings in the event of a loss.
I personally would recommend ditching the Ferox for now and getting into a Caracal. The ship is less skill intensive to train for and pretty cheap to boot.

Here is a question, what race is the character anyway? If you are Caldari why are U not using missiles?
I used a Ferox til I had enough for a Drake and my Ferox had no issues with lvl 2 or lvl 3 missions. I am Caldari and never used guns on it. I used light missiles for lvl 2 and combined heavy and light missiles for lvl 3 missions. I also used light drones in my lvl 3 missions. I also used active hardeners that were mission specific. Also knowing what type of missiles to use as per the mission makes your life alot easier as well.

yes, missiles *are* somewhat easier for missions, but turrets work too, and using turrets has the added benefit that you learn how to use those(as opposed to missiles, wich have no learning curve what so ever)
there's a tracking guide wich I suggest you read if you havent allready to help understand the basics. if you ahve any more question just ask here or convo me in game if you see me on(not mail, post here instead if I'm not on, way faster reply and I wont get spammed :o)

Edited by: KISOGOKU on 23/07/2007 19:03:32 You need hardeners and tactical shield manipulation skill for hardeners.train enginering to lvl 4 if you have not got yet (preq for tactical shield manipulation skill).PPl were doing lvl 3 missions with ferox until drake added to game with revelation. switching to missiles will help too i think

If its Recon, you aren't supposed to engage the huge pile of Amarr Navy Geddons at the end, you are supposed to turn around and get out =)

It's much more profitable to kill them all (in L4s anyway) :)

ROFL... not a noob friedly eh???? Seems though that u are "noob like" if u suggest MWD for missions. Don't u think?
Engage brain before opening mouth. Considering that setup has an MWD and a Scram on it, it's pretty safe to say it's for PvP, not missions.
Anyway, I'd go for 5x 150mm Railgun I 2x Malkuth Standard Launcher
1x 10MN AB 3x Large shield extender 1x Invuln field
3x Mag field stabs 1x Shield power relay
5x light drones
This will easily destroy all lvl 2 missions. Don't bother with missiles, they're boring as hell and won't serve you well in PvP. Guns are cooler looking, cooler sounding, and more exciting.

Hmmm there's more truth in your post than I'd like to admit.... Combine this with major (15-20 seconds) lag and you find yourself angry and beating the keyboard .
Anyway, thank you all for the tips and hints. I will put a lot of it to good use, tending to use small rails for the moment while training up on missile skills. In the end I will be both sniper and damage dealing pve player, but for now missiles will be fun. When I have the money I want to buy a drake just for the fun of it.
I read the guides and I figure I know the basics all too well by now about gunnery and missiles, it was just my aching desire to kill that almost caused sudden death in my little ferox lol.

You cannot have 22k shields with 2 lse II on ferox (my mistake you can - i forgot rigs - there is no point to put rigs on ship that almost dies in lvl2 mission). As most of you already wrote warp disruptor for missions is rubbish.
Try to fly moa if you want to use guns - moa has also nice resists. If you insist on flying ferox try either sniper (with rails and antimatter) or blaster (with ab/mwd). Usual meds are: 2-3 large shield extenders and rest mission specific hardeners. Lows: 2-3 dmg mods and in case of guns i would suggest 1-2 pds or 2 dmg mods, tracking enhancer and pds. Hi: I believe that your railrox will shine when you get t2 medium weapons. So I suggest 5x 200mm rails, salvager and tractor for lvl 2 missions.
