Last night in my home system, Merc Coalition came to fulfil their contract. At first it was a long flexing of the muscles, but eventually we were able to probe you out and destroy one of your BS's. Nice one too from the Rokh shooting his loot container, I dont think we got any loot from him. 5 Mins later you warp to our station. A Rokh, an Astarte and 2 others I cant remember. Then you dropped a cyno and boom, nice Archon. I just about crapped my pants and was like, yeah right! The person piloting the Astarte got away with half armor, very fortunate. Now we have more of an idea what your corp is packing. We WILL exceed the damages dealt to your corp than what you paid for this contract on us.
P.S. No ship losses on our end. This is not a booya thread, just some possible nice reading material. :)

Edited by: Deneb Webb on 24/07/2007 05:02:26 sorry failed to emphasize, there were delays on who was going to strike first, gang 1 in one part of a system and gang 2 on the other, monitoring local. Of course this took place way before the carrier cyno'd in. So yes, a bitter pause, strategic planning.

Someone please tell me this is a joke/forum ***** post. God I hope it is. -----

Your mean us, we are Mercenary Services not Mercenary Alliance!!!
Yes the BS was at a SS not alighned he was slow to warp out, I dont think he will amke the same error again.
I want to say well done on the probing we had some warning but like I said he wasnt alighned at the time so I ordered his wreck destroyed.

Oh good this allows me to go on a mini rant without derailing the topic and thus getting my post cleaned by some mod who's had too much coffee to drink.
Okay here it is - the shooting of wrecks. Why? I see more and more of this lately, and really... is there a lamer, more crybaby bush-league thing to do in eve? I mean that is just the stupidest, lamest, most childish things ever.
If anyone I was in a gang with shot my wreck after I'd died in an engagement to prevent the opposing side from looting it, I'd very likely shoot that person, or at the very least have a screaming hissyfit. Seriously people need to get some class. I know that sportsmanship and congeniality is a pipe dream in this game, but can we at least act like we have a modicum of class? Really? People whine all the time about CCP and server stability issues but let's be honest here - if the USERBASE doesn't get their act together and stop collectively acting like babies by doing crap like this then this game is going to die quicker than my ishtar in a lvl 3 mission. (inside joke at the last part - sorry.) --

There's no place for class in war - it's an ugly place
I don't see anythig wrong with it in a war situation tbh. It's a tactic to make sure your opponent doesn't pay off their losses with your loot, or fund their war. Tho if the wreck is around long enough to shoot, I'd hope one of my gangmembers tried saving it, rather than destroying it.
In RL many situations exist where an Army would rather destroy an asset rather than let the enemy take it.
ofc whenever my ship gets blown up there's rarely anyone on my team left to shoot my wreck for me...

Course it's not
And T'Renn i would normally totally agree with you. In this case they are mercs, they are being paid to in one way or the other make the mark corp suffer, most commonly by ship/isk loss. Giving the corp their juicy loot doesn't really fit in with their contract so i wouldn't mind a merc group that i'd hired doing that tbh.

Well my opinion is that if Mikey Mercpants were living up to his contract, he would have known how to align and / or look for probes on the scanner in the first place. Shooting the wreck is just boo-hooism at its worst. Welcome to the New Eve, I suppose.
As far as "oh it's war so we be as mean as possible" that's no excuse. Cosmic Richard called, he wants his rationale for being a crybaby back. --

During a war it is definitely a valid tactic.
The point of a war is to either scare the other off, or make it financially impossible for them to continue. So losing a BS with T2 fittings was a big enough hit in the pocketbook, they just didn't want to bolster the opposing sides wallet.

"Keep shooting wrecks" says the industrialist.
Of course, I'd be pretty unjustifiably angry too if I was gunning for some juicy t2/faction loot and it got poofed by someone with the good sense to minimize the loss of engagements.

If a military helicopter gets shot down in a hostile area where it cant be recovered.. do you know what happens to it ? Our troops blow it up. Why ? To keep the enemy from gaining anything from it, either knowledge or money. Same principle here. Ive got no problems with a wreck being blown up by one side in a fight if they know they arent going to be able to hang around to loot it. It makes the loss worse or keeps the enemy from profiting from one of your deaths.
Oh and 1 carrier isnt really a flexing of the muscles, even if it was Mercenary services and not Mercenary Coalition you were talking about. Even my small merc corp can field 4 or 5 capitals. Cant everyone ?
