A simple question for the devs or those in the know. With the move from CPU to GPU in performing all those splendid graphical wizardry will it effect the possibility of running multiple clients.
I havent seen any info on this and considering a large number of players frequently utilize more than one account simultanously. I was wondering what impact the new client will have.
Dev response would be greatly appreicated. Is it being tested, do you have facts number, or a simple yes its possible would suffice

I guess I better ask this somewhere else. General Discussion channel is hell. I pity the mods I really do.

ATM the game mostly uses CPU time and only basic GPU functions. So you your limited by CPU power.
Now with the new engine the GPU will be used much more. That could lead you to the conclusen that with the new engine you could perform wors cause the GPU could limit you. Now lets say a function x that had to be calculated by CPU is now send to GPU. If your GPU can perform this sayed function x, it will be much faster on the GPU as there it is set up in hardware. If your GPU does not know the function, the Software will emulate it over the CPU.
So you can never be slower with the new engien.
O.k. that is only half the truth. If they introduce a lot of new funcy functions y, not beeing there before that would make you slower.

Im afraid that it wont be as simple as that. Having the eve client making constant calls, access all the DX jiggery pokery and then having another client making the same calls. Im pretty sure there may alot of exceptions and ctd's.
Its a pretty fundemental change they are doing and i can easily understand how a performance gain can be achieved by one client on its own but I wonder how how well that translates with multiple accounts.....

Hard to say - I don't think graphical performance will be affected as much due to caching on the GPU, but I could be wrong. ------------ ULTIMATE LAG SOLUTION IBTL! IBDS/DC! IBTC! 1st in a BoB post! And other such forum tom-foolery. |

Running two client on the same PC have never been a problem before, one dev even stated that the client was built to make this work well also...

I care...
...and having 5 accounts now, running 3 regularly at the same time on one machine, I find this question to be a damned good one!

So no information then. I believe this could potentially be a disasterous issue.
Some reassurance would be great!

I would be interested to know even if running multiple clients on one machine is one of the checklist items for the newer version or not...
Better start forming some ideas already about which account to leave active at this stage, so I'm not caught with my pants down

Devs....could we please get a option (even an advanced option) which would reduce the CPU/GPU usage to as low as possible to still run the client?
It would be a nice to have...but i bet a large number of people would like this, since it seems a high percentage of the eve-population has multiple accounts.
I envision it working like this...
I have 2+ accounts.
I am out pvping (or camping a lowsec/0.0 gate as the uber pvpers do) on one account, but I want to log in and check my skills or even do some semi-afk mining while i wait.
The 2nd account doesnt need to do much...mostly just load and let me use a few mining lasers, inventory/hanger, skills window, contracts and market, etc (I dont even care if i can actually see the roids...long as they are on overview and I can interact with the overview.)
See how this is goin? A stripped down version of the client (or a dont do crap mode for it) to be used for people with multiple accounts.)

What's wrong with just turning down the graphics and resolution, and then using the windows task manager to set the second client to a lower priority? That's the most I've ever needed to do. ------------ ULTIMATE LAG SOLUTION IBTL! IBDS/DC! IBTC! 1st in a BoB post! And other such forum tom-foolery. |

/tinfoil on
This is a new feature of the "need for speed" initiative. Since a lot of players have multiple accounts running on the same PC, CCP has increased the CPU requirements to discourage such usage. Players unwilling to dedicate an entire PC to play each account will stop using extra account(s) concurrently which will result in a reduction of the number of players online at peak times, thus reducing server load, lag and desync..
/tinfoil off
Or... Maybe they just didn't test the bloody patch enough.
Cats do play EVE. Where did you think player names like asdfghjj came from?
