Hi folks,
I was wondering where to go for quick answers to questions I have. I prefer to stay in character when I am in game, but that's really hard as a newbie when you can't seem to get the answers you need(Rookie help channel is AWFUL!). In Wow, I would just lookup what I needed on thottbott, in UO I would look it up on Stratics. I can't seem to figure out which one is best for Eve. I have read a lot of very helpful guides here and followed links to even more, but I need answers to item questions .
For instance:
I was wondering if there was a place that listed all of the purchasable loyalty point rewards? How do you know which corp/faction to do missions for?
I have gathered some odd items from mission running, and I don't know what they do. Where do I go to turn in the Amarr midshipman dogtags. Are antibiotics needed for a mission?
My husband and I both took up salvaging, and it's been very profitable, but should we be saving parts to make stuff later on? How do you know what's what?
Thanks for the help!

I can't think of any Thottbot like website for EVE off the top of my head. The dynamic and player-reliant nature of EVE makes such a website really difficult to maintain. Information on specific items stats can be found in the Item Database on this website, but there aren't any comments as to what they all do.
You can see all the LP rewards the corporation you work for offers by clicking on something or other in the LP Store window. I can't log in at the moment to check exactly where it is though, but poking around should locate it. Unfortunately, I don't know of any lists myself, but check out the Missions and Exploration forum, as that is the most likely place you would locate one if it exists.
Tags can be used for the LP rewards, which you can check in the LP store. However, most of them are pretty worthless, so it is often best to either refine them, or if that doesn't work, simply trash them or leave them alone. If you like roleplay, as it seems you sort of do, it may be worth keeping them just for that.
Salvage parts are used in the manufacturing of rigs. If that sounds interesting to you, it's probably worth working out what sort of profits you can get from selling the made rigs compared to selling the salvage. I wouldn't imagine it being a good idea to use them on ships as a new player, as they are quite expensive.
Hopefully that answers those questions for you. And yes, Rookie Help chat is a bit of a mess, because of all the new players in there asking questions. I really don't envy the volunteers who take the time to answer all of them. However, you really aren't helping yourself by keeping in character at all times. Even if you just use ((question)) as your format to ask questions, it's better than nothing. Also remember that in EVE, being in character doesn't mean you can't ask questions. It is often said that even someone who hates RP is still RPing in EVE.
Also remember that this forum always welcomes questions, and you'll always find someone willing to help. But it may be best to keep all your questions in this thread, rather than making a new one for each. Last person who did that was helped, but it was noticeable that it was annoying people slightly.
Have fun

Edited by: Ki Tarra on 24/07/2007 14:42:53 Best place to ask questions is right here on the forums. Read the guides in this sticky.
Many of the questions that you asked in this post could be asked in game and in character. Think about it, what would be wrong with one pilot asking another where to sell dogtags or antibiotics.
As for the specifics of your questions:
I am not aware of a site that lists all the loyalty point rewards yet. When you open the LP Store, there is a button to change the filters. Set it to show all rewards, not just the affordable rewards and you can browse the options. Generally the options are very similar within corps of the same faction. Items unique to a faction are generally obvious: ie guess what faction offers a Caldari Navy Raven
Right click and show info will tell you much about a module. If you are still confuses about what it does, feel free to ask here.
Ammar Dogtags can be sold to Minmatar Navy ( collecting them seems to be a hobby of theirs ) You can also turn them in for some offers on the Minmatar LP store.
As for Antibiotics you will find a list of buyers on the Item Database. Antibiotics have no other purpose than to be traded with NPC's.
As for salvage, just sell the salvage materials that you collect for now. Once you get into manufaturing, then you will end up buying most of your parts anyways. You might as well enjoy the ISK for now. If you want to know what parts are used for what rigs, check out this site. Also look at GC13's guide for more information about building rigs. Building rigs is not different than building anything else: they just use salvage components instead of minerals.

Right click the item and View Market Details.
You will see approximate availability and range of value for the item.
At the very top you will see the category.
For example if you right click on blah blah shield injection blah, at the top you see category "Shield Boosters", so you know its a shield booster named blah blah shield injection worth approximately what the market thinks its worth.
Also if you right click the item, View Info you get detailed information on the item, with a description and any stats and fitting details.
Antibiotics are a trade good that NPC's buy and sell. I don't know if they are used for agent missions but you can easily buy some later if you need.
The closest thing we have to Thottbot is probably Evegeek or Grismar. You can google them.

I looked for a Thottbot equivalent, too. No luck. The knowledge is spread over a number of sites.
My LINKS page has a few more databases/wiki/guides/databases etc which you'll find useful.

Hi, I saw just yesterday a site with a clear, drop-down menu built list over which corps give what rewards for what amount of LP's. Can't just get my head around what the address was and didn't bookmark it! Aaaaargh -------------------- /O\ Can't pvp /O\ -------------------- |

Would this be the site, by any chance?

I highly recommend using Grismar with the in-game browser. It's a great way to check the resistances on NPCs, as well as looking for complexes and better routes (than the auto-pilot routing system). I used it 2-3 times last night to select the proper light missiles for some ratting/missions in high sec.
One thing to note -- it'll bog your client down, I think, if you leave it maximized during warping/session changes (when your ship moves from one part of the server cluster (solar systems/constellations) to another).
My 2 cents.
