I was reading the Camera droens chronile and kinda liked the last little part of it.
The first thing would problably be more fun than useful but could we set like one of our launchers in camera mode? Then when we launch the missile our view stays with the missile until it hits the target?
The other thing I'd like to see is a new type of drone. Let's call it a Surveilance drone. This drone would be small. 5-10 m3. and it would work sorta like Fighters in that it can warp around in system. You can have 1 (or more depending on some new drone skill to use them) out at a time and position it somewhere. you can then switch your view to that drone. I'd like to see them very hard to detect somehow but a cloaking device might be a bit much. At teh very least their signature radius should be extreemly small. Basically a Camera drone with a small warp drive attached to it. --------------------------------------------------- Have Rail's. Will travel.

Watching drones would be amazingly usefull after removal of local. Thing of a drone You leave somewhere, and then You see overview of the drone as well as Your own. Drone would be easy to destroy, but would be best friend of anyone solo or in small group doing something in 0.0 and in need to watch gates.

haha yea this is a really good idea to be honest, instead of having a scout you could use a drone, makes sense in a way, but im sure it would be exploited somehow, but i fully like this idea.

Such drone does not move. Drone is easy to kill. Drone does not sit there cloaked. Drone won't go to another system.
Drone is more elegant solution then using a trial acount in shuttle or second acount in cloaked whatever for this purpose.

I think this is a fantastic idea!
Implementation would be a bit tricky though. By my understanding of how the server-client communications work, for every drone you have on a different grid than your own vessel the server would have to be relaying an additional grid's worth of information, something that could end up putting a good deal of additional strain on the servers.
The solution for that would be for you to make a "full shift" when you switch to a drone - normally the drone doesn't relay any information, just floating where you left it, but when you choose to monitor through it the drone effectively becomes your ship. This would force a fair sacrifice as well, as you'd be leaving your ship undefended, aside from maybe some orbiting combat drones. A proximity alert for when another vessel arrives in sight of your ship while you're monitoring would be handy in that case. - - - Rei Sara - The Friendliest (and perhaps worst) Pirate in EVE. |

I would say make it non-moving: you drop it, and then it stays there until you leave the system (at which point you "lose contact" with it, irreversibly). Other than that, good idea. Would be great to be able to leave a few on a gate or in some belts to keep an eye out for predators / prey. --------

I kinda like the mobility option but the stationary part works too.
I was also thinking you would have a module in the high slot you had to activate (to transmit the carrier signal or something) in order to switch your view to the drone. Maybe like hotseating the drone ala Shadowrun rigging. You gain control of the drone or somesuch.
moving to anyother system would be problematic and problablya bit impractical both in terms of coding and the IC world. Being inside one system is all I emant when I said they would be like fighters.
As for a stealth effect. I was thinking more about it and was thinking that they shoudl have stats like a light scout drone. same signature and hit points. easy to destroy if you want to. Even if you warp your drone into a contested spot you would still know something is there before your drone goes pop.
Stationary drones would work well too although I would tend to think a stationary surveilance item would be launched from a probe launcher.
Of course. why not do both :) Surveilance probes would be nice too. --------------------------------------------------- Have Rail's. Will travel.
