Be prepared for a drastic increase in rare mineral cost.
Recycling Tech II components no longer give zydrine or megacyte.
This is unfortunate for many as this was an ok source of getting these minerals and helped keep prices for these minerals down.
Personally I know I lost a at least 200 million to this change in tech 2 components composition and i feel for all the others in the same boat.
A warning on this change would have been nice.

200 mil? What kind of price of mega zyd are you using? I got loads and loads of em, but my losses are "only" around 60 to 80 mil assuming i would sell at market price.
And im pretty sure i farmed every last component out of the agents available, hence they arent dropping anymore -------- -The only real drug problem is scoring real good drugs

It was also a good way for the smaller corps to be able to build, and it finally allowed those wanting to do missions to work with the corp rather than on their own. That would not surprise me as the prices have come down quite abit and im sure people were starting to feel it.
But IMHO there is no way to roleplay how components already owned somehow change their material composition.
Someone complained and got their way.....
I could see if they wanted to change future components or phase out the old ones and put in new ones but to change it without warning is what upsets me.

I totaly agree with you Zeldania,
I too have tons that I have been stockpiling in my hanger and have been getting them by doing missions and also by buying them on the market, taking into account the mega and zyd prices when i purchase them.
It is really hard to go about formulating some kind of plan to get ahead when have no idea what, or when they are going to change things to their liking.
It would be like me purchasing 10k of mega and 50k of zyd to build ships, only to find out that they removed the need for those minerals to build them.
I have seen too many times it being like a child who changes rules midstream in the middle of the game, and telling you of the new rules when you are ready to play your hand.
Like, oh, I'm very sorry, aces aren't the high card anymore. Now you need deuces to win.
I know, adapt, but that is what i have been doing and will continue to do, although it is very difficult to get ahead and plan any kind of strategy with these constantly changing conditions at their every whim!

Edited by: Danton Marcellus on 29/01/2004 02:33:19 The castration of the tech II componants was completelly uncalled for, do CCP really think more expensive battleships and cruisers will drive more people out to 0.0 to mine risking these very same ships?
Greed would, this stupidity wont.
At least a fair warning would've been in place as people would then recycle their componants and prices would go back to what CCP desired in due time, this is a just a cruel joke.

Nerfs are like this.
You buy a sports car, pay a hefty some of cash. You drive it for a few weeks, your very happy with it.
One day, the car company comes along and says "hmm, this car is too good", so they replace v8 the engine with a v6, and tone down the gas mileage, as well as start removing features, like brakes and windshields.

Well when I found out (by looking at recycle value) how uber those tech 2 components were in terms of mega and zydrine content, I made damn sure to recycle them before the patch. I had a sneaking suspicion...
And to whoever said "what about small corp and freelancer mining..." blah blah. Don't mine mega and zydrine is what it amounts to.
To make a parallel analogy to another MMORPG that I used to play, Dark Age of Camelot:
To get the best weapons and drops in that game, and in almost every game, you need to kill the toughest NPCs which takes high level players and lots of them. To take down the "princes" in one of the major dungeons you'd need at minimum a full group (8 players) of max level players. Or at least two groups of level 48+ players. To kill the dragon, which has REALLY l33t equipment, or go to any of the epic zones, you need liek 100s of players.
So to get back to EVE. Megacyte and zydrine are the most rare minerals, if you want to get it, GO OUT IN A GROUP. If you intent to play solo, stick to the lesser ores as these games are built to require teamwork to do the toughest stuff.
I never heard anyone in DAOC whining that they can't kill the hardest MOBs by themselves. Give me a goddamn break.

This isn't a nerf as it no longer has any of the minerals in them, this is a complete rip-off. 'Nerfs' like these without any kind of warning doesn't promote investments, it promotes panic selling of everything you get your hands on before it gets flattened.

Cao Cao, my point in regards to freelancers and small corps is that they can not mine 0.0 space very effectivly as it should be.
However the recycling of tech ii components allowed them to carry on some small scale operations within the empire. Thus fullfilling a role.
My biggest gripe is not so much the change but the underhanded way in which they went about it.
Did undercover agents sneak into hangers the universe over and swap old components or maybe they degraded over time into what they are now? I'd love to see how they could try to roleplay this....

"PS: The vast majority of mining in 0.0 is happening in hidden belts.

The majority of mining in 0.0 was happening in hidden belts because the NPCs were supposedly too hard to cope.
Hidden belts got nerfed, the 0.0 NPCs also got nerfed. Making the excuse about 'current conditions' null.
The argument about how it was good because the smaller corporations could get rare minerals from tech.2 components has one obvious flaw -- that ability wasn't limited to small corporations.

Anyway, to that other person from above....if what you are saying is true --- that it is cheaper to get rare minerals by doing agent missions --- then why would ANYBODY (incl. megacorps) mine for it? The cost you pay for these things isn't "inflated" at all --- its simply the demand balancing against supply.

I keep hearing how people can "build battleships" with all this Mega and Zydrine from these things. After two weeks of solid agent running, I had enough for maybe 40 mega. Not enough to build any kind of battleship I know of.
Mainly, this was useful for being able to afford the one or two needed on small builds, at least for me.
Dunno. They should have warned folks. My initial observation here is that their testing/QA needs some work... So many glaringly obvious issues that I can't understand how people were testing this.
That said, all around it is fairly decent. But a few bad things tend to overshadow all the good. You can either blow people off and say it isn't fair that the bad overshadows the good, or you can accept reality and try to mitigate the bad, so people see only good.
P.S., cruisers require mega and zydrine too. So I'll go out in my Imicus and mine in 0.0 space for my cruiser, then. Good idea.

With the newly reduced T2 rewards and the fact that many people recycled their stuff already once real manufacturing is underway the ones who still have a number of the parts still should see their prices rise as demand increases. At the very least, new T2 item prices will not be dictated but the Mega/Zyd makeup of some of the components needed and T2 manufacturing costs will be lower. So.. we will either get our payment in better prices once demand exists or people will save money by not needing pieces that are so costly to produce T2 items later.
I made 250M just doing missions for isk and implants already in the last 3 weeks, let alone the boatload of mega and zyd I *had* in the thousands of T2 items. With cash that easy, what is the point in playing at all?
It had to change and letting everyone know in advance and cash in all the excess easy money would have been overall a negative thing for the game. Let those who risk their necks to mine the mega and zyd make their isk, rare stuff for free/no risk is wrong period. |

I find it interesting that people are saying smaller corps should be going out to 0.0 and mining when pretty much anyone in a smallish corp who has tried this will tell you that PC players of the alliances will delight in killing you for even thinking about it.
I ran agent missions for 2 weeks over christmas and managed after recycling to gather about 800 zydrine and around 300 megacyte. Had I mined in 0.0 space within the protection of an alliance for 2 weeks I could have managed around 3000 mega and 8000 zydrine without breaking a sweat. Thats ninja mining in a griffin, couldn't imagine the insane amounts I could mine in a well organized op but it would be in the billion isk catagory no doubt.

I also lost about 2 bs worth of minerals in components. Components that I kept in the vain hope CCP wouldn't yet again change the whole playing field. How stupid was that of me?
In essence the statement from the President of CCP some time ago clearly stated that game change and development should not CONTROL what people do and yet this "nerf" (blatant kick up the ass for many who spent months doing missions) is in direct conflict to that.
Why I ask, are the devs totally changing the playing field like this, whereby making some people waste money/time and others get rich? Why are changes that are implemented ones that affect eveeryone equally.
Imo the idea of a patch is meant to be for fixing bugs and adding new content to the game that benefits EVERYONE, not the whimsical implemnetation of badly thought out ideas.

quit whining I mean c'mon, just think about it. What would make more sense then the 3 most hated alliances teaming up to lay waste to the people they all hate anyways? CA is already allied with PA, and TPS lies between the two alliances. Natural allies to be sure. But it's not just that, all but PA (and even some of them) have adopted a "stfu and die, or come and fight us, we don't give a **** what you think or do" philosophy, as well as a PvP Kill everyone not friend kind of mentality. These are the people in eve that kill or convert, the ones dedicated to the death of others, because history, circumstance, and the rest of eve have driven then to do so (except TPS, who are just cool ass pirates ). |

All the people who recycled their stuff: great, you beat the curve.
All the people who didn't: tough dice, dudes. You missed out on exploiting a bug to boost your megacyte stock.
techII components were never designed to be given out in such large numbers, and they certainly weren't supposed to be recycled upon collection. .

If CCP does not want us to recycle these items upon recieving them, then I have a idea on how to stop this from happening. CCP should actually RELEASE the tech2 BP's so that these items have a worth other then the value of the recycled minerals. I have tons of these items, I have been saving them in the slim hope that I may actually someday be able to sell and/or dare I dream, use them myself. With very few tech2 BP's out and the market flooded with these things what I have is now worthless. |

Tech II items refining for mega and zyd was not a bug. Nor was it an exploit.
Papasmurf as DM put it said they 'never intended blah blah'.
The only thing I will give them as 'not intended' is possibly the frequency they dropped. To not know the composition of something you are putting onto a live server is a cover up for bad foresight.
If these items truly did affect the game in a negative way then the devs should just own up to making a bad choice. But to try and turn the guilt of it onto the player is just plain stupid.
Personally whenever a dev says 'not intended' I lose that much more respect for his abilities. Programming is a logical sequencing of instructions. So therefore that term means 1 or both of 2 things.
1) I'm not qualified to make these program changes.
2) I'm a fat lazy bastich who doesn't test his work and has no ability to predict outcomes.
TBH I couldn't give a s*** less that the items don't salvage well anymore as our intentions were to keep them around until we got a BP and then to see what was needed and salvage the rest.
But that doesn't change the fact that whomever was in charge of this is a lousy coder.
BTW: Cao Cao, I'm not sure that mega/zyd represent dragon loot. I would say that named large blasters / shield boosters etc... are a better reflection. Mega/Zyd I would say represent the high end materials ie... duskwood, arcanium. Which is stuff that could be farmed solo.

yes the dev's never say we screwed up... they say it wasnt meant to be, etc etc... but thats BS because like others said it wasnt a bug or exploit it was there fault and they assume since they messed up in first place that they can just go and hide it and change it in the next patch without announcing anything about that.
DO you know what that is called in other lines of business? and just in general... well i think you have a hint, and i dont like how they keep on doing this.
Why is it they can ask the public for opinion for other area's that they will be tweaking and those area's pretty much end up pretty good, IF they listen to most of the people.
For those who make up BS that they cant or donĘt have time to announce let me ask you this, they have the time to code the changes but they donĘt have the time to write a few lines of words? Come on lets not fool our selves with this BS
If you go into any other field of work, and even in gamming you donĘt see this BS, but they assume that they can do this? In other games besides MMOĘs companies get away with this, but doing this in a MMO is bad that means losing individuals and losing monthly income/sales etcą
They should have learned from all the other MMOĘs in the past.

Edited by: Fantus III on 29/01/2004 21:33:38 Zeldania, despite the imature comments your post has brought about, I agree with you. Too many times we have logged on again to find our role, industry or chosen path in this game to be completely useless to us becuase things are simply 'changed' at the whim of the developers.
Conversley many people feel cheated because they were unable to reap the rewards others were simply 'lucky' enough to capture. I am fed up with the rules being changed without notice. No doubt in hindsight there are 'reasons' for these changes, personally I think because the actualisation of the original idea didn't go according to plan, as some of you have already suggested.
However someone in CCP in their wisdom deliberatly created items with mega and zyd in them. Once gameplay either makes the items too freely available or perhaps starts to remove said items from the game because of recycling they change them.
This has happened since the inception of this game and I feel the developers should either stand by their mistakes (if that is their reason to change them) or simply get them right in the first place.
Having played this game from the start, I have today cancelled my subscription. It has another month still to run and unless I see a dramatic turn around in the way of implementation in this game, it will remain cancelled.
I have no need of a game that defies natural law - and by constantly tampering with the fundementals without recourse or care Eve is doing just that.
No doubt others will disagree, but I thank you for reading this regardless.

Quote: BTW: Cao Cao, I'm not sure that mega/zyd represent dragon loot. I would say that named large blasters / shield boosters etc... are a better reflection. Mega/Zyd I would say represent the high end materials ie... duskwood, arcanium. Which is stuff that could be farmed solo.
Fair enough, as production is the eve parallel to crafting. Nice to see another former DAOCer around

Then you have no need of online gaming.
Every game on the market has changed existing content and mechanics to adapt to how the players use the content. And to allow for future content to be implemented without causing issues in existing content.

Fantus, although it is a set back to besure, I hope you will not stop playing the game. There are many ways of making money.
Where one door shuts a window often opens. I hope we both find the window of opportunity and profitability.
Good luck to you and keep playing
PS: I feel alot better about it today than I did yesterday. It was a painful loss but it will work out in the end.
Thx for your kind words.

Its interesting for me to hear about all who think they have been shafted as they were not warned and could refine all their tech 2 tools pre patch.
Its interesting as to me as I have been slowly buying up tech 2 tools to have when they become rare and very expensive.
Lets look at one of them as an example: Plasma Thrusters. Minmatar propulsion. How many do you think you need to build for example a stiletto (one of the new Interceptors)?
I have no idea but would guess any number from 1-10, its a small ship after all and thus dont need much thrust.
Lets say its 1 for simplicity.
How many would then be needed for a rifter Interceptors? 10? Again I dont know but lets say 10.
How much would be needed for a tech 2 cruiser?
50? 100? 500?
and a battle ship?
5000?
I dont know about you but I have quite a few of them but nowhere near what I expect a BS would need and I have been doing alot of agent missions and on top of that I have been buying items I thought were unexpensive.
Like Cao Cao I expected the mega and zyd to be removed from the tech 2 components but I bet on a different horse, I bet that they will become more valuable than the mineral worth pre patch.
As interceptors have finaly hit the game (dont know if anyone has a BP yet) I expect the other tech 2 ships will come within a resoanble time period and I would guess the players who now congratulate themselves will be sorry they crunched them at that time. Or I got fleeced, ither way, its just a game :)

Yes, if you can afford to wait your point is valid.
I expect the average real price for these tools/components to be around 50k/unit, which would be 2 to 3 times the mineral value when it was containing megacyte and zydrine.
I am still recycling actually by the way, I will stop doing this when people will start paying the real price for these tools. During this time, the requirements to build my battleship go down every day...and I don't even mine of course

Though, don't expect to make a lot of money for a long period of time with T2 tools, the stocks are still very big and demand low. If you can wait a few monthes, and devs don't increase the drop rate again during this time, then yes, maybe.

OT: Albion, Merlin. Hematic 50th paladin / Sli Faulker 50th scout (and first legendary fletcher on merlin hehe). In fact Beseb and Osash also played Alb merlin. Likewise, nice to see some fellow players.
Of course in eve we've found ourselves on opposite sides of the fence .
