Hi there, first post here ever, bear with me.
I am still in a state of an adrenaline-induced rush, after completing a mission, I thought I knew.
The Damsel In Distress.
Usually, as everybody who's tried it knows, it's a 20K pirate named Kruul and his two 5K henchmen. Right?
Well, so it's been until today, it appears.
I'm one of the foolhardy/greedy types, so I do agent 3 missions in Cruisers. Not because I'm aloof, but because I don't have a battleship yet.
Well, to the point:
I warp out to get the damsel (for the nth time, wnoder when they learn to secure them properly?), and lock on to what I thought was Kruul.
It wasn't. Apparantly, Kruul got tired of getting shot up by newbies like me, so instead of him I find a 2 35K escorters, and a guy named Zor. In a Raven. With a 500.000 pricetag on him.
So I scrambled out, fast as my Blackbird could (I'd already lost one earlier today, due to a pirate closing 60 kilometres in the blink of an eye - the already infamous Vanishing trick), so I called for help. I got help, al right. Gathered 8 people, 3 Battleships and 5 cruisers, and we went to get him.
I've never *seen* so many missiles fired in that short span of time. My corpmate in a Dominix took 24 missiles within the same amount of seconds, and got scrambled/webbed. Then we all opened fire, and within a minute Zor, and his henchmen were past tense.
Now, supposing you're reading this far, I need to know...Has *anybody* else thoguht they were going out to take on Kruul, and then finding out his name was Zor? If so: How did you ***** that missioN?
I'm still awestruck. Bear with me.
Now you're warned, if you're doing lvl 3 agent missions, and get the Damsel. Bring friends. ;)

Hey there. No, I didn't notice it, actually. Dunno, guess I'm still in a bit of post-schock, I guess. Corpmate just showed me the pic where she takes 24-or-so missiles from Zor. Picture, quite aptly, it titled: "Ouch".
Ohwell, I hope on the slim chance people read it, that they are aware, so they don't hop mindlessly into it, like I did ;)

ihad damsel mission, but it was some guy called schimdt not krull. warped in and to my surprise was a 75k maller rat with 10k friends, he was over me like a rash in a second and i paid the price for being ill equipped by losing my thorax. also should of warped in at 50 or 60k, might of given me a bit more time.
he killed my hammers just as fast as i was launching them. and the ogres went pretty quick too.
so becareful. schmidt is tougher than krull. alot tougher.
this is for your infomation, i know where i went wrong, i was simply not equipped for the job and waltzed in thinking he would be the same as krull. next time i will have a bship with tacy's and big rails and enough ogres to chew his behind into pulp.
oh shhhhhhiiiii, i got klingons on my starboard bow. the mrs will kill me. |

I got Schmidt with 3 35k'ers last night. Almost gave me a heart attack. However, I managed to get them all in my Moa. I think maybe Schmidt had a mwd cause he snuck up on me really fast. I had to mwd away several times.

To the best of my knowledge, Zor uses Eplosive and EM cruise missiles. At least, that'd account for the 240 dam per missiles he dished out...
Missile barrage from Zor
^^ Taken by corpmate, and yes, those were all cruise missiles. Doubt it was tech 2 or anything, but he managed to warp scramble at a pretty wicked range...

What the hell did you do CCP?
Normally I sometimes have to fetch minerals for my agent (Nocxium, isogen, trit and pyerite).
But today my Agent wanted 62 Zydrine!...The reward would be 158k (or so), and bonus would be 38k.
I wouldn't even be able to buy it of the market for less than that. And since you removed zydrine and mega from tech2 items, i had to decline it.
GG CCP, plz fix this bullsh*t asap.

I had Schmidt for the damsel today.
He is 75k and he had 4 35k escorts.
Lotsa missiles
I was set up well for it though, 3 720mm howies, 2 standard missile launchers with defensers, and 1 heavy launcher with cruise.
Sat at 35km and they almost got my shield down a few times, but the defenders and non-cap using weapons meant I was pretty safe.
Schmidt did close to almost 10km at one point, but I used MWD to put him back at 30km

Edited by: Ada Isdead on 29/01/2004 15:46:57 Schmidt has a MWD, and warp scrambles, he may cap drain too, but i'm not certain.
I lost a celestis to him yesterday.
One thing he does, which may be new NPC AI is:
as you kite him, he MWD's towards you, if you keep MWDing away he turns around and moves away from you. When you turn and start approaching him, he then turns back and MWD's to you, and if your not careful he'll land on top of you.
So watch out, be careful to keep him at arm's length, or 40km, which ever is longer
Oh, P.S. Schmidt is also one of the 7, so i wonder who the other 5 are?

a) Why they lowered rewards so much.
I dont think they have been lowered that much - you just need highest personal standing for best return. Either way its called "balance" - T2 items etc dropped far too often and were worth too much - simple.
b) Why some missions (kill missions) is now impossible to complete alone. Even in Cruisers.
So that they are challenging - again very simple to understand. Nobody said you are supposed to be able to do every kill-mission in a friagte or a cruiser or even a solo battleship.
c) Why they removed all the zyd and mega from the tech2 items.
Too much gain for practically zero risk - balance. You want high end minerals buy it, trade implants for it, trade T2 for it or go mine low-sec space.
WHAT exactly did that have to do with the Damsel mission though? "Generic Whinage 101" is another thread (rather about 90 of them froma bout the same few people)

a) Shouldn't you be able to make money from doing Agent Missions? Face it, not everyone wants to spend all day mining or do PVP without insurance (which requires quite a bundle of cash). With my level 3 agent, I could make ~1.5mill a day. And that is from 3-5 hours of playing.
b) So, everyone HAS to have a Battleship to be able to complete all Agent level 2 missions? Makes no sence.
c) Maybe, in the beginning they said something else. Never the less, they could at least have stated that BEFORE they patched. Silent nerfs are never welcome.

DO I feel bummed out. I was one of those who stumbled across the Zor mission yesterday, got a good deal of friends to help, all well, damsel returned. For 79K reward. Not only that, but also did Zor not drop a single thing.
CCP: Why, oh why is it that NPC mission pirates only drop loot if they're the LAST ones dying?
Just participated in the smacking of Zor again today. Apart from the Damsel's can accidentally being blown up by a stray missile, the other can included a 100mn MWD, some cruise missiles, and a Perception implant.
...Can it really be right that npc pirate drop rate is defined like that? That only the last pirate to die gives the damsel (fair enough), and an extra can of loot?
*Sighs*
I'm hoping someone can tell me how/why this is so, since it is confusing (and aggrieving) me quite a bit...
On a different note, though, I, for one, am thrilled with the new missions...Zor, and so on: It has brought people together to cooperate, I mean, wasn't that originally the idea? To make some missions neccesary to work together on? Eveybody seem to want to go lone wolf, to gain the bragging rights about how they singlehandedly, repetedly smacked Zor...I say, why bother? I am much more proud to have been part of taking him down, because that involves teamwork. So, all due respect, *stuff* your "I can punch out god alone" attitudes, where applicable ;-)

Yeah, great, had my first Damsel mission after patch (for a lvl2 agent, trying to get set standing with a RD corp, which is pointless atm :( ).
The member of the seven was called Sarrah, and sitting in an Archangel cruiser (normally from 45 to 85k, or so).

Hi. I got this Damsel mission today as well.
To the guys asking what kind of dmg he does :
He shoots salvos of Catactlysms only (heat dmg) 4 x 6 = 24 missle salvos.
Not sure what elce he has , didnt get close enough to find out ( and wouldnt recommend
) , I blasted him from 90km using F-90 , he only seems to have lock range of 85km and he's missles range of maybe 77-80km.

Also, there's no "explosion" damage nor "EMP" damage. Come on, you know you're just complaning about that he didn't write thermal.
BTW, With EMP, I'm *not* referring to your sig as I know that the ammo is named "EMP x" and the damage type "EM".

Well, the Schmidt mission is not really hard with a bit of foresight and patience. Did that one in my mission Omen with the low-end equipment without a hitch.
I do think, however, that the missions scale a bit too steeply in difficulty. There is nothing wrong with difficult missions or the need for teamwork. But if a lvl 3 mission requires you to take out a Raven and a cruiser group, how bad will lvl4 and 5 missions be eventually?
Just when we had been taught that we didn't really need a battleship in Empire space, we find out that we do... The hard way.

Yeah thats logic alright. They dont want everyone flying a BS but the lvl 3 missions require you to or you cant complete em. That Zor, Damsel in distress mission, Im pretty sure you cant even kill him with 5-10 Cruisers. Not without atleast half loosing their cruisers. And lets say 5 cruisers lost = 35mil approx. I might be wrong but it just doesnt seem right!

Have to add one thing on that, though. Both times I've been involved in the Zor mission (neither times alone, I'll add), he's fired 5 thermal + 1 EM. Don't forget the EM Cruise missiles...Made us lose one of our cruisers second time around.
*Point of wonder: How many uber-BS-master-pilots are currently blatantly abusing the fact that Zor could respawn like any other pirate, if one leaves the area?
I hope anyone exploiting it will lose their ships. Repeatedly.
