I have a Retriever with 2 strip miners. Questions:
WhatÆs the most efficidnt way to mine and haul mining solo? -Just filling up cargospace, run back to spacestation, unload and return; -Filling up cargospace, jettison in space, fill up some more, jettison some more, run to spacestation, return in industrial and return to spacestation; -Load GSC in cargo hold, deploy GSC, fill up cargospace, jettison into GSC, fill up some more, jettison some more, run to spacestation, return in industrial and return to spacestation; -Other efficient ways to mine?
Another scenario: I have a Retriever with 2 strip miners. Friend has industrial ship. Questions:
Same as above, whatÆs the most efficient way to mine?
Thanks in advance

The most efficient way to mine solo is have two accounts, one mining and one hauling. But that's not really a helpful suggestion.
Your best bets are options 2 or 3, depending on how likely you think it is an ore thief will come along. Remember that secure containers can only be anchored in 0.7 space and below, above that they are less safe because someone can scoop the whole can.

Do you mean it's not safe to use Giant Secure Containers in 0.7 - 1.0 space? If so, why not? How does scooping work?

A single industrial can haul the ore from several miners, so, it's a boring if there's only a retriever mining, he will spend most of the time waiting.
What I would suggest is either : -Have 2 or 3 miners mining in jetcans and a friend in industrial hauling. With some tries, you'll see how many miners the hauler can handle. Teamwork ftw! -Join an industrial corp, some of these corp will get you corpmates to haul, mine with you and even escort. Just ask them before you join how there mining ops work, how much goes for the corp, how much goes for the miners and how much for the hauler and escort. In 0.8 - 1.0 (0.7 is OK) it is not possible to anchor the secure container. That means that in effect, that GSC is just a heavily armored jetcan. Even if you set a password everyone can just open it, get the contents from, or if they fly a freighter move the whole can into their cargo hold. Only once the can is fully anchored (the green lights on the can will in that case turn red and the container will stop spinning around as wildly as a jetcan does) is it secure and will the password that is set be asked for by anyone wanting to make use of it.

Nope, once anchored the can is secure. As noted in eariler posts, until it is anchored, anyone can snatch it up.

Of course, you could theoretically guess the password, but it would probably take a while.

Edited by: Panch0Villa on 26/07/2007 15:01:58 I personally have a few GSC's anchored in my favorite mining system(s) and mine until they are all full, plus a full indy load in the jetcan. I have a tractor beam on my osprey, and just fill the jetcan to the size of the anchored containers, empty it, and then fill another jetcan to the size of my hauler's cargohold. Not as good as a corporation mining op, but better than jetcanning/filling one GSC at a time and anchoring each one. Takes more containers obviously, but when I choose to mine solo, I maximize mining time this way. Then, it's all secure, and I minimize ore thievery.
Just have to find a place near the roids to anchor the can. "Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes" |
