I'm experiencing something new from Eve, to say the least. I'm now unable to actually get into the game. If I am able to get to the login screen (sometimes it happens, now appears to be back consistently) I will either crash while viewing the character selection screen or while watching the status bar move to the right during the fade to the 3D system. And by crash, I mean instant reboot, not crash to desktop.
I've never logged into the test server, and was able to login just after the recent patch for a skill switch but haven't really tried to spend any time with it until today. I'm not asking for troubleshooting yet, just wondering if I'm the only one with evil things being done that makes windows unhappy enough to spontaneously reboot?
--
Additionally, I was also experiencing (as noted) problems getting the login screen to even show up. During that time, what would happen is Eve would show the splash screen and swap the system pallete (icons, gui elements were obviously lowered in # of available colors), but then the splash would go black.
Odd. Disappointing. Petitioned. |

After an uninstall/re-install of the latest full build, I'm able to login... so far. If this is the fix, then I have to say thank God for broadband. Will post an update if necessary, otherwise consider this an additional artifact of a relatively fubar'd patch.

I bring this back to the attention of the devs: After logging out last night and the computer sitting idle for about 8 hours, I logged in this morning to change a skill and immediately got a hard reboot when the character selection screen was loading.
NOT GOOD. Of course I'd already closed my former petition, I hope they can re-open it.

update:
I was able to login this afternoon, and actually got into the station. About 30 seconds after I was in, while browsing through my buddy list - Reboot.
Of course, the tech guys with whom I work and corp mates online all say "that sounds like an incompatible graphics card or driver problem, or possibly an overheating cpu" to which I say "I completely agree, except before this patch it never happened - nothing else has changed."

I have EXACTLY the same problem.
Random CTD or Hard Reboot during login or in the first 10 minutes of playing. Only happening while I play eve.
My config is :
XP SP2 3500 AMD 4GB PC3200 7800GT Abit NF8, Nvidia chipset...

I've got an Asus A8V mobo (VIA chipset), Nvidia 6800 series gfx (with latest non-beta drivers from their site), amd64 3200, 2gb ram (3200), XP sp2.
Doing a few tests tonight: 1) I'm reinstalling XP on a fresh partition to see if there's something going awry (or at least now somehow incompatible) with EVE on the main boot. This is not a longterm solution. 2) I'm going to install XP on a bootcamp partition on my macbook pro, different hardware set, and see what happens. This is a longterm solution in a way, but not a replacement for my main box.
I haven't heard anything back on my petition yet. Unfortunately it's like nobody believes I have any idea in PC troubleshooting. Heck yes it sounds like incompatible video, or overheating chips, etc... but, given the circumstances with which only I am keenly familiar (or you in your case), it's REALLY OBVIOUS where to point the blame.
I appreciate your reply, glad to know I'm not the only one. I will report back new findings. This is ridiculous though, since I'd wanted to spend my Friday night making some ISK not troubleshooting evil bugs. (anything that causes a modern OS to spontaneously REBOOT is doing something BAD... someone must ADMIT THIS. I'll continue to work with and do testing with support, but please at least say "oops")...

Your not alone, ive had this problem since the patch also. Completely random, you are not safe in the station, sometimes it happens before you pick your character, sometimes you get to play for awhile. Its a real pain in the ass. I never CTD, i always hard reboot. I have not found anything that works, nor have i heard a response from anybody in a position of power.

Very unfortunate situation. I can confirm that *at least for tonight* I was able to play for a few hours on a completely fresh windows installation with nothing installed but Firefox and EVE.
I will update tomorrow after letting the install simmer for a few hours.

I really would like to hear something back from CCP. "Weird" things were occurring immediately after the patch, before the unstable situation. Suddenly Skype and Evemon were both crashing with really odd errors. It kind of stabilized into complete instability in the client.
I will concede that there may be something on my system, driver or running process, that the current patch of eve does not cooperate with successfully. I will not concede, however, that it is something "broken" on my end compared to the functioning Eve on Monday night.
I'm willing to work with CCP to figure out what said something is in order to help others get back into the game. I'd need to hear from somebody first.

Just an update, still no response to the petition. I'm playing on my alternate win installs, but I know that's not an option for everybody and it is NO solution.

Little update,
Yesterday after 18:00 ET and today I was able to play non stop...
But before that, crash + reboot occured nearly at every log.
Weird ...
/me thinks now it might be a hard disk failure ... /me remembers also that he installed the game in another drive too, but the problems remained ...
Weird ...
