Well, I'm sitting in my Rupture working on a BS rat, and it's taking forever. I'm wondering, what can I do to up my DPS against the big ships, while still being able to tank the hits, and take out their escorts.
What I was running: highs 3x 220's 2x Assault missile launcher 1x Salvager (very noobish)
mids 1x AB 1x Barton Reactor 1x Webber
lows 2x 800mm armor plates 1x nanite dealy (+15% to all resist) 1x PDU 1x Med Armor Repair
What I'm thinking of running: highs 4x 425mm AC 2x Assault Launchers
mids 1x AB 1x Barton Reactor 1x Webber
lows 1x thermal hardener 1x em hardener 1x nanite dealy (+15% to all) 1x PDU 1x Med Armor Repair
Main questions are... for the auto cannons, am I gaining or losing DPS? and can I afford to replace one of my low's with a damage mod?
The first set up treated me pretty decently against cruiser/frig spawns, but I was fairly overpowered with BS spawns. I could take 1, but 2 would hurt me pretty good. My thinking is, with my resists bumped up a bit, I'll take a lot less damage, while dishing out more with the big guns.
If anyone is willing to shed some light on this, I'd be most grateful.
A few days away from being able to sit in a Battlecruiser, would it be worth the day and a half long detour on my way to T2 frigs? or could I be content in a Cruiser?

If you are not putting FOUR AC's on your rupture, you are missing out on a very powerful double damage bonus.
Originally by: Marquis Dean As with most threads in Ships & Mods, it ended up with Ryysa yelling at everyone.

Take off the plates and put on some gyros if your able to sustain your tank.
Use four 425mms since your freeing up a lot of grid from dropping the plates. It has less tracking but your not gonna have to worry about that shooting at a bs.
Use an online resource site like eveinfo.com to look up the npc and find what damage type it is weakest against and use the proper ammo. Fusion is best against angels.
With that and using the proper ammo against the target will show improved dps. Use damage specific drones aswell.

I'm about to head out to test the hardener set up. If the tank proves to hold up well, then I may replace something with a gyrostab.
I'll get back in a few with an update on how well I held up.

Highs 3x 220mm AC 1x 180mm AC 2x Assault Missile Launcher
Mids 1x Med Cap Battery 1x Cap recharger 1x AB
Lows 2x hardeners (1 per dmg type of rat) 2x gyrostabs 1x Med Armor Repair
It's working pretty okay. I've been able to solo 3x Cruiser and 1x BS spawns. Anything more than 1 BS though and I get torn up. It still takes a little while, but definately noticing a big change with the gyrostabs. It's a fairly inexpensive set up, and doesn't take more than 2 weeks of SP to be able to fit. Not bad for beginners.
Tip: roll up on top of the BS and they can't hit you. take out the cruisers first, they are the ones doing the damage to you.

personally id always use the same tier guns.
use the biggest you can. maybe switch 180 for 220 and swap assault launchers for standard?
get a hurricaine asap they are much better.

Edited by: Galan Undris on 28/07/2007 18:10:08 I use 425s for 0.0 ratting, but thats in a Hurricane and I have 5 light drones to take care of those pesky frigs. The 425s work decent enough for destroyer and up (at least with motion prediction V), I might have to web the faster cruisers. I think Id stick to 425s even without the drones as well, they work somewhat against frigs and one good salvo and they go pop anyway. Maybe slap on a tracking computer if the mids allow.
As suggested above, get a Hurricane. I run one or two EANMs, a DC and a single medium repper II as tank. Very low cap use and as long as you're orbiting something you wont get hit very hard by BS guns. That leaves room for 2-3 gyros and enough mids for some pvp viability if need be. 6x425s and 3 gyros will tear through them a **** of a lot faster than in a cruiser.

I would use the highest tier autocannons for npcing. Try this
4 425 mm
10 mn ab Stasis web
1 em hardener 1 thermal hardener medium rep
I assumed from your setup in the op you are going against sanshas or blood raiders.
Once that is fit you should have 2 highs a mid and 2 lows to play with. I dunno what your fitting skills are like but with those slots try and get yourself more damage and more sustainability for your tank. Some options are Nos, cap recharger, gyros and cap power relay.

i have never had DPS be a problem in my purture, even with no gyro's, crusier5 does fine.
dont use 425's, 220's for damage, 180's for tracking. 425's are just not great at all.

I think it would depend on how you're ratting tbh.
I seldom bother shooting anything smaller than a BC spawn, and always leave the frigs and destroyers until the big stuff respawns. If thats your strategy, then there isn't any reason to fit anything but the biggest guns you can.

Umm... who is it you are fighting? That, and what ammo you are using can make a large difference to how much damage you are doing.
Being a Fleet Commander and a Arbitrator pilot are the same thing - The only difference being that the Fleet Commander commands other people, and the people actually listen to him. |
