Now, I think this is a very good idea. It should not be possible to log off doing combat or NPC fighting to make your ship disappear and survive.
But the ship stays too long in space. I logged off and about 10 minutes later the ship was still in space. 5 minutes should be sufficient. It is not always you are close to a station and sometimes you have to leave EVE very suddenly because of real life. So the ship should stay in space for 20 minutes or whatever the timer is now - it's not fair.
So please lower this timer to 5 minutes or so.
Thanks.

There is another side to this coin.
Having lost three cruisers so far over the life of my characters to NPC's due to local internet problems combined with things like infinite range missiles, I don't think ships should stay in space after the client is no longer there and you are no longer in control of them. When this happens you will get no help from CCP. It is very annoying to lose a 5-10M isk ship which represents hours of gameplay to a spawn that was easy to take down if I was at the controls because my connection went down because of circumstances beyond my control. It may not be CCP's fault that some portion of the Internet failed, but the ISP that went down somewhere certainly can't replace my losses. Even insured at the prices in the game you are still out millions at times.
Not all disconnects during a battle are someone trying to log off during combat. CCP should be able to tell the difference between the user closing the app during battle and a communication problem. Have the client acknowledge receipt of damage during battle. If the user closes, send a logout message. If there was a logout message, the user tried to disconnect.
If your ship stays in space for even 5 minutes a spawn or player that should never have been able to kill a ship that was being actively piloting could end up costing you a battleship.
If ships are going to stay in space without pilots they should have AI to fire back at anything that attacks them.

Problem with that is people could just interrupt their modem to get the same effect.

Moving to the ideas forum. This isn't really a patch review topic sorry -- Richard CCP Programmer. Anything said above is not the official line, but my own take or opinion. |
