I want to be able yo build my own hud, ccp!
And no, I dont want any WoW mod hysteria either, only in-game tools for it.
Why wont CCP allow any customization?
I want to move some bits of the navigational info upper left down to the bottom center as an example.
I want to have info display on the HUD directly for certain modules that now only is available if I do a show info on the damn thing.
Like current targetting range etc etc. Every bit of info, every number should be draggable to a movable 'dash board', or even several dashboards, displayed on the UI for the pilots reference and convenience.

Edited by: MotherMoon on 28/07/2007 19:49:17 I agree some sort of in-game only tool for moving where stuff is would be nice.

the GUI really is pretty poorly manifested. its functional in the way that MS-DOS 3.3 was "functional".
it would be nice to be able to redesign the GUI if one wanted to, and had the time.
if we cant have that, may i suggest a few books for the ccp GUI designer by Edward Tufts:
The Visual Display of Quantitative Information Envisioning Information Visual Explanations Beautiful Evidence
oh, you mean you cant click on the text to link over to amazon...? see what i mean?--poor design cuts across all mediums...

I think they would be happy to provide GUI customization, but they have to prioritize things. Right now its not at the top of the list me thinks.

Aye, I can apreciate that, but lets put it this way: it s been years. But yeah, fix some stuff 1st.
I am curious though if they have expressed any interest in it before.

I was thinking more of if they have expressed any ideas/interest or thoughts in general on making the UI user configurable to a greater extent than what has been the norm this far through it s various incarnations.

Guild Wars has the right idea (the only other MMO I've had experience with, anyway) - every part of the interface can be altered, moved, added or removed as the user desires.
There are certain parts of the UI that I'd love to move to more useful positions, to be sure. Such as: Targets. Targeted friendlies moved to the right, hostiles to the top.

EQ, too. So very very useful. They've got an API for the website, why not the UI?
I would love to see which gun icon belongs to which gun, for a start. ----------------------------- "Oh, we're sorry, you had the 'NakedAmarrChicks' bit flagged in your account somehow." "Wait, why was there even a flag for that to begin with?" "..." |

TBPH, I think "WoW mod hysteria" could only serve to improve EVE. It's not outlandish to believe that open sourcing the UI code in Python would result in UI optimizations that could improve frame rates while making the UI much, much more useful.

I'd be happy with an UI that doesn't get stuck when you use "show info" on someone ...

WTF WoW mod hysteria. Open sourcing ideas like that is what makes anything better.
People are so naive. I can't understand how you people think anything remotely related to WoW is automatically an MMO bane. Regardless of the fact that WoW is the most successful MMO ever. Least amount of intrusive bugs (meaning the important things get fixed ASA, not just at the next patch. one of the largest player bases.
Blizzard has done a good job with WoW and many business could be urged to learn a thing or two from them. Blizzard is one of the best gaming companies to ever exist.
That aside, someone posted about getting things fixed first. From what I understood, Rev2 was supposed to be a major bug fix. If that didn't happen, then I was given bad info, or CCP slacked. Maybe now they should focus on functionality; another thing they lack.
Key Bindings Customizable UI
Those would definitely be good starts.

Regardless of what you think of the content and design of WoW, he's right about what he says. It does have way less intrusive bugs, and the UI is far better for a number of reasons. If eve was coded solidly like that, I would complain a lot less.

it's functional, but it looks like it was designed by engineers. there's a lot of simple things they could do to make it much more user-friendly, like breaking the huge overview block into separate target/gang/drones windows that could then be positioned anywhere on the screen, or letting you move the speed/shield/armor/modules thing somewhere else so you could run dual monitors without having the status thing awkwardly split in half.

Heat. Ambulation. These are things that can get in line behind moving my drone interface off the damn overview.

Hmmm your so right work on getting a fully functional DX10 up and running, since it will be 3 years out before most people move over to vista. Also the Ui hasn't changed a bit since this game came out of beta they have only added a few things to it, such as the gang functions/broadcast options which are a joke as is if you ask me. The games UI should be on the top of the priority list it would help to attract more people.
I'M SO SICK OF RIGHT CLICKING...ESPECIALLY WHEN THE GAME IS LAGGING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I should have added this as well DX 10 is a graphical upgrade. The graphics in this game aren't really all that great. Maybe 6 years ago they were but not any more. Tell me what graphics really will be added in the next few patches? The dart of light is green instead of white. I mean come on what a joke CCP.

Why did the mini radar get taken away? That's one thing that threw me for a loop when I started playing, no radar.

You used to be able to move your targets around in the UI. I don't know why they did away with that.

Very understandable.
All the same, it would be nice if my fleet window and/or drone window weren't permanently glued underneath my module buttons.
