Hello,
I am new to the game and I have a merlin that I NPC hunt with. I am able to do level 2 missions but I notice that if I get that ship within railgun range it pretty much gets hit hard. Is there a good setup for the Merlin to increase it's staying power close range? Or, should I add another afterburner and stick to long range missile fire? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

2 150mm railguns and 2 m12 launchers is probably best, you'll need engineering 5 and 2 power diagnostics or RCU in your low slots.
This is a nice setup for a Merlin for killing stuff, can't use a MWD though, AB should fit though. ------

EDIT: rockets in the A3 launchers.

Thanks alot. This gives me a couple of things to play around with. Being able to squeeze in that MWD makes for an interesting get away tactic. I'll have to play around with those suggestions a bit.

yup - the above config (2x150, 2xM12) is a good one - I use it myself. Also, when hunting the larger rates (>10k) carry some defenders to tackle the incomming missiles
... and keep an eye on your shields.... if the get low then warp out (I always have my autopilot set to a neighbouring system so in the heat of the battle I can turn in on to warp out - no desperate right clicking for a warp destination!)

Well, I have ZERO experience of frigate fighting on TQ, neither PvP or NPC fighting, since I was "ninja-mining" in a Probe until I got eneough money for a cruiser.
But when playing on the chaos server I one day did alot of frigate PvP.
Now, I have VERY high skills. But the setup I used on my Merlin was: High: 2x 280mm 'scout' projectiles and 2 standard missile launchers. Med: EM hardener, Thermal hardener and small C-5L shield booster Low: 2 cap relays.
This setup worked very good.
I proceeded to go and test it against NPCs, and behold, I alone in this frigate was able to kill a spawn of 4 NPC cruisers! Now, it has to be pointed out that those 4 NPC cruisers were "low level" Serpentis NPC cruisers, and they completely suck compared to some other races of NPCs.

Dalman,
What skills would you need to get that setup? I assume projectile weapons would be one :) And are those all energy grid and shield upgrades?

Edited by: Judicator on 31/01/2004 00:15:37 I think I have to try 280mm Howitzers on my Tristan, alwyas used 150mm Prototype, but the 280mm are evil.
and don't use RCU's use MIcro Auxilary Powercores. They add 10 PG each unit. -------------------------
