Award wining or not, the art is a little shoddy. Let's start on the left. The Caldari woman's hand is a little flat, no life in it. Same with her hair, it looks like a bad toupee, needs more detail to look real. Not to mention her lips look like they're about to slide off of her face
Next the Gallente. Her hair's better, but her eyes scare me. It looks like the guy just put dots there instead of actually coloring in the irises. Also the left one is looking forward, while the right seems to be looking up. But that could be a stray hair or something.
The ship under her, at the bottom, has problems with balance. The head area is at an angel. There are bumps in the line work that shouldn't be there. The area behind that (exact center of the ship) looks like it was broken off and glued on wrong. The wings also appear to be two different sizes.
The Amarr, I don't really have a problem with. I would have had the amarr lady overlap the mini since they were enslaved by the amarr, but that's personal preference.
Mini is fairly good. Though I have a problem with the muscles. In her arms there are defined muscles, but she lacks them in her abdomen as well as in her chest. I also can't tell if the line down the center is her cleavage, or its part of the costume.
I'm not flaming, just think of it as constructive criticism.

He put himself out here and even welcomed comments, good or bad. Read the original post Wrangler...
RE: Skarsnik
I'll post something positive about your body art, the Caldari State logo is very well done. Now about this Louis, I don't need to read about him and what awards he's received over his 18 years tattooing to see how sloppy this piece of body art is. I am also very surprised to hear that he's launching a similar TV show as Miami Ink because if the Miami crew saw this piece of work, they'd probably laugh you out of their shop! (Again my opinion I know but if you're a Miami Ink fan, you'd feature this aswell)
Some of the other posters have already pointed out most of the problems with this piece, the biggest problem for me would have to be the Dragonfly fighter. It's a complete disaster, some of the worst linework I have ever seen, and you look to be a pretty young guy.( Referring to skin texture/elasticity)
Honestly, the Dragonfly reminds me of my sketches from elementary school during boring classes... I'll finish on a positive note though, the Minmatar female and the male shadow are nice, a little over the top with the muscle definition but very nice overall.
I hope you have a good chat with this Louis and try to salvage your back, fix the Dragonfly lines and darken it to cover the mistakes. With all said, I look forward to seeing your complete mural, maybe once all the areas are filled, the less appealing parts will not be so noticeable.

Don't mind Wrangler, he's just sad because he can't post pictures of his own tattoos without putting the forums squarely in the AO rating territory. :)

Couldn't you have just gotten a T-shirt? And did it really need a website?
Well, in for a penny. It looks ok. The drawings look stiff, but the shading is nice. The ship and Caldari logo look great.
I can't really smack, I've got "Z is for Zillah" from the Gashleycrumb Tinies on my back, and "code harder" on my arm. And those are the good ones.

Personally I think most people that have made negative coments on this piece are not realizing the diffrence between tattoo styles. The thin lines that look weak are made to be that way. He's not thick hardlining it like you see on 99% of the new tatto's you see now.
Im not a huge fan of characters on people unless they are done in a portriat fasion with a no line look but the art is solid and tattoo's are a personal choice.
Good on you and keep it up i cant wait to see what your plans are for your background.
Once im done my arm ill post it but not untill then. There are some eve Elements that will be going into the finished product. Not because i love eve so much I just find the art style very apealing.

Heya Skarsnik!
As always, loving the work there.. it's coming along real nice and I'm suitably jealous!
Not got around to adding more to my collection yet, but hopefully when the whole money situation improves I'll be adding another couple at once
And to the people who say that 'one day you'll regret that' etc.. my life motto is, Never regret the things you've done, only the things you haven't.
GJ dude! Looking forward to seeing it progress

This. I am not sure why the hype of thick lines has absolutely exploded in the tattooing community, but it's a little disturbing. Very soon I feel people will again be recommending barbed wire armbands as the pique of originality and creativity.
Looks great :)

Kind of a late bump, but I just reread this and was wondering something:
I realized a large part of what was bothering me about the piece was the thin black outlines defining the figures.
My drawing professor in college hammered it into us to not use lines to 'outline' an object or person. He used various mantras like, "there are no lines nature", and "objects don't end with a thin black line in reality" to try to get us to pick apart larger shapes and color gradients to define objects with. He encouraged us to break into the interior of an object while drawing it as often as possible.
Outlining shapes before filling in the interior is considered an amatuer, untrained method of drawing. It's what many of the kids did before taking classes, and when they broke from the habit their work became much more refined.
I don't really know how tattoo drawing works. Is this kind of approach feasible? Or is it the nature of the tools and "canvas" so to speak, that you really have to outline an object?
Just out of curiosity.
