What's the reasoning behind Platinum insurance on a Zealot being 17m payout? The ship costs at least 100m.......

its not based on market value but on mineral value, that Hacs are overpriced isnt the insurance companys problem

Most tech 2 ships are sold at a HUGE markup on what they actually cost to build - the profit margin on them is enormous.
Thing is, insurance payout is based on the actual production cost. So you're being payed what the ship is worth - but you payed a lot more.
In other words, insuring any tech 2 ship is really only worth it if you're building them. - The game is not the problem. The problem is that you are not adapting to the game.

LG, you're such a n00b.
The insurance pay out is for the build cost, not the crazy purchase prices. This is the case for all T2 ships, which is why they are rarely insured.

[joke] Look, a Bob member asking noob questions! [/joke]
It has been that way since years, insurance only cover the mineral cost (itself based on arbitrary isks/mineral ratios that were defined at launch, and those values are widely different from relaity now). If you use average market prices for CCT2 components, the building cost for an HAS is more around 30-32 millions. ------------------------------------------

Actually, it does make sense. If anything it is too much of a payout. Considering the risk the insurance company is taking insuring combat ships at all, they payout should probably be even smaller. In rl, there would never be insurance payouts for acts of war or criminal acts - which account for nearly all ship destructions in Eve.

Not really. You still lose the difference in what you could sell it for, insurance covers the base material costs, which might not even come to 20% of the market value.

Hey!
Knuck while I have your attention here in this fine thread, I'd like to ask you a serious question...
If a loot can is popped in the vast voids of space, does a RKK pilot hear it?

/me runs away to fit more Sensor boosters...

impossible, by the time the can is targetted our inty pilots have already jetted their ammo to make room (except Angie who has already died), scooped the lewt and arranged hauler pickup with Dian via IRC.

This is rather a problem with many ships, especially T2 frigates.
Buy a vengeance(cheapest of them) for 3.5mil and get 1mil back in platinum insurance if it pops
The insurance on ships is more like, fitting insurance these days.
So yeah, i have a problem with being serious, but it's the almost smallest problem i have. |
