My friend wants to join my corp but has a faction standing of -3 with minmitar republic. Since my corp is homebased in Minmitar space i'd like for him to be able to run missions and improve our overall faction with min. What can he do to improve his faction standing with min and improve corp standing as well? Would his negative standing with min lower corp standing aswell?

Train Diplomacy. That will give him a boost to his standings. As long as his effective standing is less than -2 he will not be able to work for any agents in that faction. If Diplomacy does not raise his standings high enough, he will need to get standings increases through the new gang mission completion option.

By doing missions for Gallente Faction, you can increase your standings with minmatar as well. Though only to a small degree.

Storyline missions with the Sisters of Eve will also help his minmatar standing.

With a recent patch, you can now share your mission rewards with your gangmembers. That includes standings increases.

It used to be that SoE would increase standing of all factions. Now it is more limited. Last i did a storyline for them, i got increased standing for Minmatar and Gallente, and a negative hit for Amarr. Caldari seems to be completely neutral towards SoE.

Currently Sister of EVE are friendly with Gallente and Minmatar, hostile to Amarr and Caldari, so it work to raise Minmatar standing. They are no more friendly with all the faction as before RMR.
Storyline standing (so empire standing) are not shared with the new reward sharing for missions.
I have tested it, is in the patch notes and it was confirmed by one of the Devs, so it is not possible to raise empire standing trough froup missions.
Heard, but I have not tested it, that sharing a mission from a corporation from a empire you can't work with will unlock that corporation.
i.e. player A get a mission with Boundless Creation, a Minmatar corporatio, player B with -3 with minmatar join, the share reward and layer B get a little standing with Boundless Creation, while his Minmatar standing stay at -3. The player B can now run mission for Boundless.
If that is true be very careful to chose a corporation and a agent that have a storyline agent from the same corporation in the same station , or you will run the risk of getting a storyline mission from a different corporation with whom you can't speak, and further damage your standing as you can't accept or refuse the storyline, so after a week you fail by default.
Another point is that while it can be an intended feature to give the player a chance of recovering the standing, it seem more a bug, so sing it can be classed as an exploit. (if some GM/DEV is reading this, a comment would be nice).

Sounds interesting, I would be happy to try this out to see if it works, To the OP mail me in game and I will share a mission with your corp member.
I am currently doing lvl 4 combat Minmater missions with Freedom extension. he wouldn't need to leave the station so needn't worry about being "gang banged"
At the very least we can quickly raise his standings into positive territory to enable access to lvl 1 or 2 missions.
