Every time i get podded I have to blast my cache and settings, redo all my ovverview settings, and resort my bookmarks into folders. Report the bug? Did that in 2005, 2006, 2007. I even threatened to report it every time it happened and was told that wouldnt be good for my account standing.
CCP continues to nerf this, change that, alter this, put in more carebear content, and for the last 4 years has consistently failed to fix major bugs! Fifty thousand corrupt sanctionable actions? It will take you a month of petition work to get hem removed. Horribly broken corp interface that occasionally resets permissions? Four yearts later its still a problem.
I have been a senior software engineer for 14 years and If I delivered code like this to my customers and consistently failed ot fix the issues I would be FIRED. Why is it that after four years, CCP has not managed to allocate resources to fixing these things? Why is it that the promised bug fix marathons have never materialized?
Well Im off to recreate all my overview settings and sort all my bookmarks on 6 characters now. Lovely. And if you think I sound mad on a forum, you should see me in real life.
CCP get with it and fix the long term issues that have been annoying pod pilots for years and stop using the whine parade to organize their priority list.
Four years is long enough to leave the corp interface broken! |

My Stuck Petition:
Quote: Every time I get podded I have to clear my cache and redo all my settings to clear being completely frozen. The clone bay wont finish and if I log out and try to log back in, it comes up to "enering station" and then freezes totally. I have let it sit hours before.
I am so angry about this. Having to sort my damn bookmarks and redo all my settings every time I get killed is U-N-A-C-C-E-P-T-A-B-L-E.
And the comedic reply
Quote: Hi,
Could you file a bug report for me on this issue when it happens, hopefully with a logserver file. Hopefully this will help us fix the issue. you can file a bug report here https://bugs.eve-online.com/newbugreport.asp. You can find details on how to file a bug report here https://bugs.eve-online.com/help.asp .
Best Regards, GM ****** EVE Online Customer Support

I find it funny when people claim that CCP is the type to think "shut up and give us your money."
Think of all the expansions we get for *free. Think of the frequency of patches compared to other MMO's.
For you familiar with WoW when it first came out till recent: $50 for the gamebox when it first came out, then $15/month after that. $30 for the expansion, still $15/month.
EVE: $20 for the game from trial, $15/month after that with the option to pay 130mil isk for GTC's. 130mil is easy to obtain after a certain point.
*Free in comparison to MMO's that make you pay for said expansions. $15 is not free, I know this.
You are having a localized problem and perhaps you, Mr. Software Engineer, should inspect this as such instead of pointing at CCP. --- I Support The NOS Nerf! If anything just to make you mad.

Perhaps you have a reading disability. I already said I have reported in 3 times.
They are too busy appeasing the latest whine to fix long standing issues like this one and dozens of others.

Why do you not have a backup of your settings somewhere? I have a problem that has similar effects, and I got tired of redoing them all after maybe the 10th time.

CCP get booze. Get drunk 'n do something. CCP wake up with pain in head 'n notice something. They take care of pain in head and ignore other things because well they are feeling good and they got more booze!

To the OP: Well if you would have a company and 9000 customers tell you to fix A and one customer tells you to fix B. But you have only enougth resources to fix one problem. Would you rather fix A or B?
I know that does not help you. And you have al righs to be angry, but it does not change the facts.
But now something that might help you: Have you ever tried to make your setting "write protected"? Or you could backup your settings folder every now and then? It's not as if you were a software engineer and could write a batch file or so, that would do it for you. Oh.. wait.... ------- http://www.stillbruch.ch |

Edited by: Rooker on 31/07/2007 06:56:10 Back up your settings folder. Ever since Rev II, my settings disappear at least once a week. I got tired of it and just keep a backup of the whole folder.
Log in, "Oh look, settings nuked again", log out, delete settings folder, restore back up, log back in.
/edit:
I agree though. Sloppy goddamn coding and should be fixed. I suspect it's the bit that moves the settings folder first time you log on with Rev II from anything older.

I think it's to do with the moving of the cache and log folders out of the EVE folder and somewhere into Window's messed up folder heirarchy.
I use a batch file to backup all those missing folders to the EVE dir every time I start EVE. That way if they get fubared while playing, I can restore them with a click.
However, that's a workaround, not a bugfix. Losing settings has been around for ages, and is triggered on many different events. I think everyone's just given up on bugreporting stuff. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- RABBLE! RABBLERABBLE!! MMORPG: Many Men Online Role Playing Girls |

Tard. Stop abusing the petition system with your whines then. I'm glad CCP ignored you. You know as well as anyone else that's not petitionable, and your attitude sucks too.
Petitioning stuff like this makes you a K-N-O-B-J-O-C-K-E-Y.

Edited by: Piotr Anatolev on 31/07/2007 08:14:01 Well, this thing seem to be just like the damn drones.
Guess I dont have to elaborate on that one.
However, I ve never seen any evidence of ccp stating there could be bugs that are account specific. I would suspect that as CCP bug hunting teams cant reproduce the issues i m having with drones over the years that I ve been playing.
I would advice CCP to use the complaining customers account to verify the reported issues or they will most likely keep falling between the chairs and continnue to pester people and making them think CCP is totally inept at bug fixing their own software.

Ya tried that to no avail. The fact that others are having that problem shows its real and not just me.
And the backup won't help you with major changes. I had a 6 month break, came back, loaded my old setting to the new client = broken overview (not filtering other than default shows anything).
So if you are unlucky, you have to redo from start again.
Rells: fresh install EVE from a new donwload (no other things). Run with default settings on the client (well except resolution and such). get poded. see if anything changed. I guess if you have the problem again, it's not your client and anything you do won't help it. Try the same on another computer.
I guess as software engineer you know this already ...

that proves he's either 1) not a software engineer. 2) fails at being one. 3) all of the above.
The fact many people haven't heard of it, Rells, indicates it's a specific bug, and as any software engineer knows, specific bugs are hard to replicate.. ranging from having a need of specific hardware parts, to tiny flaws in the patch process between <install point> and <now>...
Rells, I suggest reading those software engineer books again and watch the part called "Bug reporting".. or better yet, read the 'how to bugreport' posts on the forums (seriously, a forum warrior like you won't have issues finding those, right?).. then trying to do the exact same thing.... bugs can NOT be fixed if you don't know WHERE it originates from (unless you want to trace millions upon millions of lines) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Xaroth Brook [Datacore - Mechanical Engineering] x 125
