Hi I've been thinking aboiut setting up a small POS in hi-sec for research purposes, but as i stated in the Subject line: i'm a newb when it comes to POS stuff.. so I have a few questions.
1. Since it's almost impossible to find unused research slots in NPC stations in secure, is it possible to research at a POS? And if it is, what is the structure called?
2. Should I bother with Moon Mining? Is it profitable? And if I do, should I go for the Reactor Array (to create advanced reactions) or a normal silo and sell the simple elements?
3. Will a small Control Tower be enough?
4. What kind of Control Tower should I use?
5. Is there any point in setting up elaborate defenses?
These are all the questions I could come up with atm, but if you have any more advice, I'd be glad to hear it.

1. MOBILE LAB
2. CANNOT MOON MINE IN HIGH SEC.
3.YES FOR A FEW LABS, MED WOULD BE BETTER=MORE FLEXIBLE.
4.MEDIUM IMO
5.SOME SMALL ANS MED GUNS ARE OK IN EMPIRE, MAYBE SOME SHIELD HARDENERS
6.CORP NEEDS LIKE STANDINGS FOR SYSTEM SEC RATE.. IE.. IN A .7 SEC SYSTEM , CORP NEEDS A 7.0 WITH THAT EMPIRE.

If you don't want to spend hours upon hours getting up your status with an npc corp you can buy them from another player. Costs approx. 200 mil. for 6.0 standings.

Mobile Labs for highsec research POS. 3 ME, 3 PE, 1 Copy and 5 Invention slots each. They are wonderful things, but they're expensive and eat CPU fast.
No Moon Mining in highsec, soz.
A Small Control Tower can fit 3 Mobile Labs. Is that enough for you?
Caldari Control towers have the most CPU, but the grid sucks. Either a Caldari or Gallente tower can hold 3 labs and a Corporate Hangar Array for on-site extra fuel storage. You still have to move it to the tower from the hangar yourself.
Not much point in elaborate defenses, just slap some guns on it and keep em loaded and online. They only cost Heavy Water (as they take no CPU) and Heavy Water is dirt cheap.
A highsec tower's greatest defense is that its usually not worth taking down, considering how long it takes to chew through up to 50 million potentially hardened shield with battleships. However, having some guns on hand at least means they can't shoot up your POS AFK. A sufficiently ****ed off or bored enemy can take it out though.
Corp Standing of 10x the sec status of the space you're setting up in, for 0.4-0.7. No anchoring in 0.8-1.0, and in 0.0-0.3 the empires don't care.
Make sure you can keep it fueled up, even a small will cost you 50m ISK a month to fuel, plus your hauling time.
