Grrr... I can vouch for the difficulty of level 3 kill missions. I almost lost my ship 3 times before I realized that the Ammarr Detectives were bugged. Managed to kill one and fly off to repair but when I returned there were two again. I spent 2 million just repairing my cruiser in 10 minutes. I guess I found out the hard way. Be nice if there was some warning. I almost didn't make it out the first time.

Let me add my weight to this post!
Hit the nail on the head there Wraeththu - also a lot of sound points from Viduus in another thread in this forum.
The Agent system needs a thorough review post patch - been my major activity since before Castor

I second Wreaththu. I concluded that the risk of losing a cruiser with good mods for level 3 kill missions far outweighs the benefits of running missions.
You could run them in a battleship. But you would still have to at very least insure your battleship every 3 weeks. And you still run the risk of losing the battleship even to a bug if not PVPers unless you pay platinum insurance. And the missions' payoff was nerfed. So using a battleship to make money on missions is also not profitable imho.
On a side note, I really think that it is very hard to make money for experienced players at the moment. I dont know if that is good for the game because the experienced players start making money off less experienced players now in many forms that it takes, and its not just piracy per say but also making your corp members bear the brunt of the new poor and expensive Castor Eve.

I think quite a few people kinda missed this remark Wraeththu made.
"This is my suggestion for the biggest improvement. Remove implant missions. Make implants on par with any other item in the agent's catalog."
I have run missions since the first month of the game. I run anywhere from 5-30 missions a day in the last five months. I received one implant the entire time. A duplicate of an implant I had already gone and purchased. I had purchased it with the cash made mining a couple hours and selling the minerals on the market.
Now something seems very wrong when you can go and mine for a couple hours and just buy a reward you have spent days trying to accomplish by actually doing the missions.
Since last patch we now have two types of implants, basic and standard. Standard implants hit the game and the value of basics dropped by close to 50% yet they still are hard to obtain as a reward. Common sense would say that basic implants should be easier to obtain by agents as well.
Obviously if some of us people have run so many missions and not received implants as rewards the implant reward is far too random. The randomness being a complaint for months now. So why not put in the colossal bad luck factor in on implant missions. It can be done, it was done for important missions.
Meanwhile CCP finally caught on to those exploiters who were turning down missions left and right and getting large amounts of implant missions. If implants did nto have suh a randomness then those exploiters would not be as rich, while those of us getting screwed by randomness we not be as broke from having to buy them.
The ones who would complain the most about implants being more common would be those who are farming implants by exploits or have the exeptional good luck. Oh well too bad. Just like any other item in the game the high value is going to fall, deal with it.

Two saving graces to the agent missions.
1. Not all missions take you through low security space.
2. Eve can be run in window'd mode.
Result: Do what I do, start up Day of Defeat and go kill people while your ships in on autopilot. Sure it lags like a mofo when you load a new system, but it's much more fun than staring at the screen.
And if you miss your bonus time, who gives a rat's ass? It was barely worth it anyway. (Btw, this was a serious post as an alternative to being bored by agent missions) It does need a little better comp to handle both though. ------------------- Basic truths? Oh, almost forgot. If you alt-tab back and forth from eve to dod alot, you might run into some problems. I've had eve ctd on me frequently as I did that. Changing eve to full screen mode clears up all the problems. Also seems to give a tad bit better fps in DoD. Oh, and don't alt tab directly betweent the two, go to another window or desktop first, the the other. ------------------- Basic truths? Well, i was also thinking about opening a thread about the problem, but you already did that, so i'll add my toughts to this one.
1) CCP should finally put down the nerf bat, and start to improve the reward side of other professions instead of nerfing those which are closer than a lightyear to the reasonable level.
2) Agents should pay based on the estimated time it takes to complete the mission. So a 10 jump L3 courier mission should pay at least 200-300k. Why? Because those 10 jumps take at least 10-15 minutes, and that means you were rather fast. Basically, make agent missions worth the time they take.
3) Presence and value of the agent bonus should be based on actual performance, agent standing and quality. You shouldnt be guaranteed to get a bonus, neither should you know whether you will have one or not... Players should only consider rewards when accepting the missions. Bonus could be based on how fast you made the mission. There could be bonuses like extra standing increase or something like that.
Plus theres a lot more CCP could do. Wraeththu summarized that rather well.
I hope they get it right, at the moment i just get bored with eve the moment i check the first agent mission, saying i get 30k isk + 2 '>insert useless item bp here<' blueprints for a 10jump courier mission, which would take a good 16 jumps to make the mission and then get back to the agent for the next one.
Theres nothing in the game to motivate me to do these. I made the missions, because it was like christmas checking the bonuses for each of my missions, and the reward was high enough not to feel myself robbed (time-wise). Now that they lowered the reward, it just stinks.
Please, i beg you.. fix it.
ps: its 3am here, and im way too tired to check the post for grammar / typo errors. ------------- This post is nothing more than my personal opinion. It does not represent the official standpoint of Fountain Alliance, or the HUN Corporation in any way. ------------- |

Erm. Actually, i havent seen a single L3 kill mission that would endanger my battleship. (BS kill missions are an exception of course)
Point is. You can fairly well live and run missions without insuring th BS. It would easily survive a lag or crash. Especially with shield boosters going, as i could leave the ship there all day long without shield falling below 50% ------------- This post is nothing more than my personal opinion. I have to agree that the mission system is not right at the moment, as discussed above.
Please tell that me I wont have to go back to the pre-castor style of implant harvesting from agents to make decent isk?
It seems like, as before castor, it pays to reduce your standing with your agent regularly, as higher standing = less rewards. Is this true?
Can I untrain negotiation 4? It seems to make things worse.

Doesn't make it worse per se, you get more isk instead of implants, that's all. I mean, who doesn't love training for a week on a skill so you get 32k isk instead of 31,500 isk? ------------------- Basic truths? Well done post, I agree 100%, especially about risk vs reward! Don't have a battleship, would never be able to GET one without afk mining for months, and that's not something I see as "part of the game" So my cruisers get blown up because an 8k named npc and his 2 buddies spam SO many missles that 3 defenders modules can't keep up. Yeah......great reward!!!
Normally, I totally support changes to missions, but to those of us who ONLY do this as part of our place in Eve, we got screwed!
Papa, what happened? Zrakor/Hellmar, maybe play some missions instead of listening to the whining before you totally rake us over the coals?
Wraeththu, well thought out post, excellent points, and a hearty cheer to ya!!
