So I have an alt that just trained to freighters, and I forgot why I did it in the first place. What do I do with it?
- Haul crap from trade hub to trade hub to do market PvP?
- Haul crap from provincial markets to trade hubs to do market PvP?
- Do public hauling contracts?
- Join a hauling corp?
- Jump into Amamake from Ossogur in a freighter?
- More interesting stuff?
Suggestions? |

Confirming this is the right choice: Jump into Amamake from Ossogur in a freighter
I tend to move large things with my freighter. Like, put up a buy order for 500m units of trit with range=2 and then go to all the stations and collect your trit. Melt it to something usable and haul it to market or PVP area. Freighters are especially nice for being able to move bigger ships or bigger amounts of ships.
I used a freighter last time I brought Harpies down to Amamake.

Yeah, pretty much. I guess you were trying to figure out what would be most enjoyable? Push Industries is a decent hauling corp which operates similar to Red Frog Logistics. They have a recruitment thread.

I would use it to resupply Rifterlings, but we stage out of a system several jumps into lowsec, and I don't see a freighter escaping both Heretic Army and the Amarr Militia for those 5-6 jumps, regardless of scouting. |

Buy a jump freighter. I staged out of Frerstorn with an Ark for a long time.

What am I, independently wealthy?! $15 * (4 bil/ 400 mil) = $150. There is no way I am spending $150 to jump ships into lowsec, and I won't have 4 bil for quite some time making ISK "the legit way" at the rate I am now.
I was asking for uses for a freighter specifically. If I had a JF I'd know what to use it for |

You could troll the **** out of the locals with a fleet of falcons and rapiers... :P

Ed: Rapiers are for getting the freighter out. 3x Fed Navy web Ashimmu with loki bonuses might also be pretty good - just make sure you start aligning the freighter out for a couple seconds first and it'll instawarp. If a blob lands on the gate ahead of you just C^Q before aggro and let the falcons jam everyone to keep the DPS off you.
With 5-8 guys I'd totally take a freighter through that triangle. Then again, I'd have a couple triage carriers on standby too. :P Normally on 5:00 -> 9-10:00 Eve (Aus TZ?) Blog: http://liangnuren.wordpress.com Twitter: http://twitter.com/LiangNuren

LMAO. The guy's a FW pilot not a JF pilot.
Freighter is the way to go in this case. Unless you and your corpmates are willing to pay Black Frog Logistics to do so. I forget what they're charging for JF services? . |

Enlighten me, are freighter runs common in lowsec? I suppose with good scouting and Falcon support it's doable, but still very risky. |

In three years I think I've seen a freighter in low-sec maybe 5 times. Without exception its been someone who had the wrong AP settings and was either AFK or was running back to the high-sec gate.
I'd be very happy to hear of any of these runs though |

Low sec / 0.0 / NPC 0.0 freighter ops aren't at all unheard of. Larger alliances tend to have rapiers for the instawarp + falcons for the jamz + bait cyno ship with cap fleet on standby. Even smaller alliances do it kinda frequently. Hell, IIRC every player created station in existence has required multiple freighter ops all the way from Empire.

Looking at your sig, when you finish playing I start. Hard enough finding people undocked then never mind freighters, altho the Russians run a few ops at DT. |

Hmm... I never really understood how the whole "webbing to warp faster" thing works. I'll have to look into it, I suppose. |

It works because of: - A ship is at rest it has no direction that it points - so any velocity it gains is always in the right direction. - You only need to go a certain percentage of your top speed to get to warp. - A ship that gets webbed suddenly has its top speed cut, which can mean that the ship is suddenly going many times faster than its top speed.
Basically: The freighter starts to (very slowly) warp out and gets slammed by 3-4 webs. Its now going roughly its top speed and its already pointing in the right direction and so it just instawarps.

I see, so you set all the webs on it after it begins aligning to warp, to get an effect similar to the end of the MWD+cloak trick. Interesting. |

Pretty much what Liang said. You just need to be highly organized. Speaking only for me, I can't be bothered to go through this and would rather hire Blackfrog or an independent JF pilot to handle moving the stuff for me. One slipup and that Freigther kill will stay on the KB for your enemies to epeen all over you :)
I'm sure that if you and your pilots bought your stuff, contracted it out to a JF pilot and split the costs, then you'll find it will alleviate any logistics burden on you. And since JF pilots calculate costs based on jumps, you can lessen that amount even further by freighting everyone's goods to the closest hisec system for the JF to take over from there.
Not to mention the opportunity costs involved here as well;
It costs 700M+ to buy a freighter. This versus paying tens of millions out of your own pocket to hire a JF pilot. Assuming all pilots split the costs. . |

+1 for the instawarp trick, although i found i never needed to use more than two t2 webbers on a rifter to make it happen effectively.
as an aside, i also used to search specifically for kspace>kspace wh's for trip shortening for a corpmate's freighter. typically one or both sides of the hole landed in low sec, and made for some very fun trips. nothing like having a system covered in gate camps wonder just where the hell you came from, and see you leave unharmed ;p |

Yeah, K->K WHs was my primary method of logistics when I lived in Stain. +1 to you - though K->WH->K is usually a better choice and is about the only way you're gonna get a hole big enough to get a cap through.
