after the "currently docking, 15 more seconds until you can switch ships message" could the game just switch to the next ship you had picked please.
i don't understand why you have to wait, then go back and reselect the ship you want after the counter (which shows up nowhere on the screen so it's always a guess). this would be a simple fix.

Edited by: Kindra Blades on 04/08/2007 11:24:16 anytime you spend waiting for a timer is money in their pockets. Say you docked only twice every day for a year. Thats 15*730=10950 seconds of you docking. 182.5 minutes or 3.0146 hours. Doesn't seem like much does it? Now imagine that 20,000 players are on at any given time on average. Now figure up how much free money they get from subscribers because of wait times from docking, black screen undocking, fleet adjust wait time periods for jumpgates, etc. Sounds wierd, but delaying someone for a short time period adds up with the numbers because of longer play times. Time based games that are being paid for is money in the bank...ask CCP lol. Over a year, thats that much play time...not played.

In early Eve, there were some tactics based on docking, changing ship and undocking 1 second after. Those tactics were defined as exploit and prevented.

I'd prefer if the wait time was on the outside of the station rather then inside. Would help control peek-a-boo pvp tactics, and make more sence from a realism point of view. (It would probably take a while to dock a space faring vessel safely.)
Same wait, different location.

Add that one hour downtime everyday :) thats 30hours in 30days subscription, multiply with 30.000 users = 900.000hours of gained time:D Divide that with (23hours*30days) = 1304 months:D or 1304 payed one month subscriptions for free:D
but thats another topic.
I vote for elminination of this 15 seconds period, rather disable weapons for 10 seconds when boarding ship..with undocking waiting times and black screens on undocking, that 10seconds are pass when u see your ship out of the station..

What tactics does this prevent? The aggro timer keeps you from doing it in PvP, and I can't think of any other situation where a quick ship change would be particularly powerful.

Edited by: Aragonis on 06/08/2007 12:10:36 This timer also helps even out database load. If you get lots of queries in short bursts (status = docked, alter current ship, status = flying) then you can get backlogs.
I just think that the notice is a little poor. It should say something like "Your ship is still being secured in the docking bay. This process should be complete in around <time> seconds. During this time you cannot leave your ship."
Furthermore, why does this bother anyone? It's 15 seconds out of your life. --- http://www.ninjacodingmonkey.co.uk/ |

i wasnt asking to remove the timer.
instead the game should count down the timer, then switch to the ship you have selected, without you having to select again. the message would be more like "we will have your other ship ready in 15 sec".

titans dont dock, but yes, we understand.
you still should be able to pick the next ship you want to have, even if it takes 15 seconds for that ship to be ready. rather then having to wait 15 seconds and then picking the ship.
