I'm tempted to skill up for exploring with a covops ship. I like the idea of probing, hacking, archeology, and using a salvager - all using the same covops ship.
However, I realise that would trigger NPC spawns, so a fast escape would be essential.
How easy is it to survive in a situation like this with good skills and a covops ship that has had a lot of ISK invested in it? (With rigs, T2, and even faction gear.)
If there is a knack to surviving situations like this, what is it?

I don't think using cov ops ship for salvager is a good idea i have seen people specifically using destroyer fitted with salvager and tractor beams for salvaging, other than that i have no idea :)

My Cheetah is fully equiped and never has any problems from the npc's.
when you get the 0m accruacy warp to it whilst cloaked.
Have a destination set
hit AP during warp
when you land you have just enough time to set a BM should you get decloaked. If you dont get decloaked on entry then cancel the warp and just sit tight.
you will still need to kill the rats to open the containers so a covops isnt your best option.

Covops finds 'em...
Bring a properly equipped combat ship to exploit the site.
Unless you want to kiss your covops goodbye  .

I put a salvager and a codebreaker on my covops and bring a 2nd char for the actual combat. Cov ops has inertia stabs, so it warps in and out in no time.
The salvager is only for when i get the commander spawn, if I plan to salvage all the wrecks i bring a destroyer.
