So I usually sell my stuff via contract and word of mouth in Jita, but I wanted to spice it up some and try to run a lottery for a change. But i was wondering what some ways were to run a legitimate lottery. I say legitimate because I don't want to do one of those "pick some numbers and I'll decide 'randomly' who won -wink wink-", ones, because they just scream scam to me.
I see a lot of people using another form of lottery to legitimize the deal, but I'm not sure how to go about selling tickets and such. Any pointers?

Use the UK National Lottery. 49 numbers, 49 entries.
But you main problem will be, if you do this, if people will trust you with their isk... You better get someone`s name to vouch for you...

Yeah I was also trying to figure out the trust issue. Maybe I could use some sort of middleman? Or is that not advisable?

A common way to get a random number is to use a readilly available value that not you nor anyone else can control, say for example the final didgits of the stockmarket at closing a specific day.
Anyone can go to the official stockmarket page and check the number and by picking the last few didgits its impossible to predict, the dow jones for example would work nicelly (I think BIG used dow jones).
Naturally you could pick other sources the internet is full of numbers you can base lotteries on as long as you only use the last few numbers.
The problem with running a lottery in EvE however is like you yourself have pointed out is trust and at thge moment I trust your char about as far as I can throw it (and seeing as its made upp of pixels in a server I dont have physical access to I cant throw it at all).
Anyhow, good luck to you and I hope you have some fun setting upp the lottery wether its a scam or not :)

Alright, so I've got it figured out how to pick and sell the tickets (gonna use the Lotto 6/49, seeing as how I check the numbers every 3 days anyway :D), thanks to your advice. Another thing, aside from the trust issue, what's a good way to get the word out? Obviously posting in here is one way, but can I post the lottery in multiple places, like in sell orders and events? And do people in Jita care about lotteries at all if I were to advertise there?

first of all you should stop posting with an alt and post with the main, advisable with it's alts names attached, so atleast people have a reason to trust you
