Hello -- I'm a few days away from having the skills needed for gallente interceptors and I'm looking for guidance:
1) What's their best role? Do they perform well in either pve or pvp?
2) What are good tactics for interceptor in pvp?
3) Any guidance about fitting, or links for setups?
Any commentary welcome - thanks, Marlowe

Interceptors are good for having fun. They fly really fast, and it is quite the ship for getting in, getting a point on someone, and start peppering him with your 40 dps ^^
Anyhow. A ceptor will be able to fly fast, and generally be able to engage what targets they want to, and run away from most they don't. Be weary of anything that has a web, as they WILL catch your ceptor. Usually, they are good for gang work - getting a point on a target... but that is about it. Frigates are really your only targets, for solo, but a good ceptor might be able to take down a cruiser, but only if it can engage outside of web range.

Also, most inties are becoming fairly cheap due to invention these days, some of the less popular ones are around 4m and the more popular ones at 6 or 7... sole exception really is the Crow, as its widely considered the "best" interceptor and therefore is at 16m.
They allow you to pick and choose your battle, really. With really only the exception of the Taranis, no inty has really high DPS, and therefore, your goal is either to kill the weak stuff or hold down the stronger stuff until stuff that can kill it for you arrives and starts the fight. If they bring in backup, due to your speed and usually long range from them, you can get out and run like hell, saving your isk for another day.
The Taranis, however, is another exception. In its high-damage blaster setup, it can crank out over 250 dps with fairly decent skills, and a Thorax may do around 250-350 or so on average - now, get a few of these fast moving ships together and find yourself targets you can kill, then scatter, and you have yourself a very effective fighting force. Webs and nos are your main enemies, though, so be careful.
All in all, a good class of ships.

Edited by: Gojyu on 05/08/2007 22:06:15 I'm a crow pilot myself, will be eventually training up for the minmatar inties too.
1) Their primary role is tackling. Say you warp into a system, and decloak to align for warp. It's my job to cover the 20 odd km to you in less than the time it takes your ship to turn around, I can normally do it. Also, they work extremely well combined with interdictors, with a flycatcher and a crow, nothing is escaping your gatecamp. They're definitely a group ship, and while you can easily drop an indy or something solo, you'll want to have a group behind you to be sure. In pve, they have a completely different role, they make the best low-volume high cost-item transports in the game. The only thing that can catch an interceptor is a huggin, rapier or another interceptor. If I see a 40 man gatecamp with warp bubble without 1 of these 3 I don't even break a sweat, I'll be outside the bubble range and warped before they can even lock me. If they follow, no sweat, I'm 3-4x faster in warp than them too
2) Orbit at around 18 km, you need to be out of webber range, so stay away from huggins and rapiers. If you want to dump some real cash in there and get faction mods, orbit at 22km, which means you're immune to heavy nos too.
3) There's a ton around ships and modules, but the basic premise is tackler mods and a tech II mwd in the mids, i-stab, overdrive and pdu in the lows, highs to suit.

They also make awesome ships to run and pick up a new module or 5 from Jita. Some people that I've met refer to their interceptor as a T2 shuttle.
