Hi all, im new to the game, and have been working on setting up a Punisher for my Amarr special forces character. I have done the tutorial and the ten part mission that followed, but not much else yet. Im a pretty experienced gamer, I have been reading the forum, market, and help channels trying to get a handle on this game; jeebus there is a lot to learn. I would like some feedback on my Punisher setup. Its for pve to start running missions to make some money. From what I gather pvp requires differnt and more complex tactics, so for now Im going to be happy to blow up npc rats. I know there is a ships forum, but the conversations there seemed a little over my head in many posts, so I was hoping this was an ok venue to post this.
So far:
High slots: 3 Medium Pulse Lasers. (btw why is a small gun called "medium". That kind of broke my brain for a while)
Mid slots: Named afterburner I got as a loot drop (dont remember the exact name) and a named web, also a loot drop (skills for the web will actually be finished later today).
Low slots: Small armor repairer, Heatsink, Capacitor power relay x2.
It all fits, just bearly. I have a high slot left open, but no more ability to fit weapons there. Any suggestions as to what to put there? I may need better skills before anything else fits, however.
Also, any suggestions on what type of crystals for the lasers. I was thinking that once I could get the web installed I would use a short range high dammage one, with the idea that if I could get in web range closing to point blank would be easy. I know from those tutorial missions that webs can be darned effective at slowing a ship down. Is this a good idea or should I look at Something else?
Thanks

Thought of another question:
Im trying to figure out what Corporation (npc) to start doing missions for. Is there an Amarr corp that can give me combat missions but also has some noncombat agents if I want to expand into mining or trade? Do agents ask you to do anything other than blow things up or schlep from A to B? Do I need an agent If i want to mine or trade, or just to raise cash for through combat missions? Even just limiting myself to Amarr corps there are a bucketload of them to pick from. Advice would be greatly helpful.

Edited by: Zephyr Mallory on 05/08/2007 20:30:16 You really should have posted in the ships/setups area, but anyway. My advice, lose the stasis webifier. you don't really need it for missions, put a cap recharger instead. Your low slots look pretty good as they are. Frequency Crystals- carry the short and the long range ones both, switch the crystals out as you need. As far as getting in range- your afterburner should keep you able to close as much as you need to for your weapons.
Replace your Armor Repairer with a named one when you get the chance, same for your Medium Pulse Lasers. They'll not ever be 'long' range, but they'll do the trick for level 1s, and level 2s when your skills are ready. Feel free to ask me any questions in game as well.
As far as which corps to work for - Generally work for the Navy corps if you want combat missions, which seems to be the case. Securty, Internal Security, Command, and Surveillance agents offer the most combat missions

Edited by: Cygnus Zhada on 05/08/2007 21:11:37 I'd drop the heatsink and add an energized resist to the damage done to you or (better yet) add a 3rd cap power relay, switch out 1 or more medium pulses with a dual light till you can fit a small nos in top.
That setup will enable you to keep the repairer and guns running forever making your life a lot easier.
Have 3 typs of crystals with your; Multifrequency, Standard and Radio.
Yes, I use lasers, please stop laughing in the back. |

Setup looks fine, I agree that a web probably isn't necessary for L1 missions, and most L2s.
Ministry of War is a great Amarr corp I'd recommend. They've got a lot of high quality agents near Amarr & Tash-Murkon (probably the largest market hubs in the area).

Thanks for the feedback. I have set aside the webber for a cap recharger and turned the heatsink into another relay. Cap is vastly more sustainable, although not indefinatly so. The small nos wont quite fit with the big guns, although I think if I push on to Engeneering V it will. In the mean time I will experiment with the current setup, and switch to the smaller guns (involentary twitch) if I absolutly need the nos to keep the defences running.
Thanks again for the replies.

Get some points in Energy Systems Operation (I think thats the one) .. 5% cap recharge rate per level.. level 3 is an over nite thing from none. that's an easy 15% increase in regen.

The Punisher is a great little ship thats for sure, I've been running around ratting in low spec with mine for the last week or two.
What i run, and you can just drop all the T2 to the normal stuff, is"
High: Duel Light Beam Lasers II x 3 Named NOS
Med Afterburner Webber (Can live without this little guy for sure)
Low Small armor repair II Named Heat Sink Cap Power Relays X 2
Really never run into issues with my cap with guns blazing and mods firing. Its a really fun ship to play in.
