Ive just moved up from a Thorax to my first bship and i'm trying to get the best combat fit possible for my Armageddon.
I can use all turrets and hardners and just need some recommendations.
Any suggestions please

While the above is certainly "a" combat setup for the armageddon, it is by far not the "best" setup. Think outside the box -- what are Amarr strengths? weaknesses? How best to optimize their defense while at the same time maintaining a good offense?
Answer these questions correctly and you will come up with not only a good pvp / NPC setup, but most likely the BEST combat setup in the game. It is possible to outfit the armageddon to annihilate anything else in space.

A cruiser can stalemate an arma hardcore in 1 on 1's, the only use for the arma is a damage dealer. It gets locked, it dies. Order out of Chaos |

Try something along these lines:
mid slots:
100mn MWD stasis webbifier warp dis/scramb
low slots:
lg armor repairer med hull repairer expl. hardener kin. hardener therm. hardener energized nano adapt. membr. co-processor power core
high slots:
mega pulse beam mega pulse beam mega pulse beam 800mm repeating arty. 800mm repeating arty. heavy beam heavy beam cap booster (using 800 cap boost)
Depending on your skills you will have to alter your high slot and two variable low slot setup to adapt to power and CPU needs.

That's an impossible setup 1) Cap boosters are mid slot 2) Hull Repairers are mid slot
also having the adaptive would be redundant as it has the stacking penalty applied to it. The basic idea thought is a good one, but the arma doesn't have the proper setup or bonuses to accel at armor tanking. Order out of Chaos |

Well I fly Caldari ships but I've heard wonders about armor tanking. Anyway, yes the adaptive would be redundant but you still DO get bonus out of it, just doesn't quite do as much.
So drop the adaptive plating, maybe drop the webber, add the cap booster, throw on a couple cap relays if you can manage it. Anyway this would be the way I would set up an armageddon. You could even try it on an apoc, might be even better since they get the cap recharge bonus, right? Hell if you are worried about capacitor, just go for the projectile guns instead of the lasers.
Anyhow, MUCH better going for an armor tanking setup on amarr ships than shield tanking...

As I have piloted an arma for some time, Mac X's setup sounds better IMO. A great ship for NPC farming.
with an xlarge shield booster and 8 cap relays, it doesn't matter if you get jammed. 2 BSs won't take you down...:)

Also remember, hull repairers are no longer necessary if you armor tank properly as there's no leak any more, that should free up some slots on the setup.
I've been toying around with the idea of a close range armor tank geddon as well, seems a little tricky since you need the energy for the weapons as well as the repairers... it seems like the best bet is to just put multiple 1600 plates and a hardener or two and hope you kill before you're killed... the problem is the plates will hinder your speed
I'm sure someone has figured out this dilemma.

And yeah I like Mac's setup too. Maximizes the turret use. Nice to see sober setups like that as opposed to 3-4 tachyons and a bunch of wasted high slots

Exactly. A XL + 2 amps can't keep up with 2 battleships, even when I used 2 EM / 2 thermal / 1 kinetic hardener. The ships didn't cause any explosive damage at all.

What happened to the fire power an Apoc can give? Ok it will drain the cap fast but after that there won't be anything in front of it's guns.
High: 5 Tachyons any other gun that you can fit.
Mid: Large C5-L booster Sensor booster any **** to boost cap or recharge it fast.
Low: As many cap recharge items you can find (you probably do need als some CPU and power enhancers)
But the trick is with the Apoc. Target as fast as you can. Shoot as hard and fast as you can. You WILL deal more damage in 30 sec then any other ship can do. But you will only have enough cap for 1 or 2 BS. After that get out and recharge. --

I have had decent success against NPC rats down to 0.1 with my Armageddon using smoe ideas here. My current setup:
High slots: 7x dual heavy beam
Medium: 100 MN MWD, large booster, cap charger 1.
Low: 2 damage mods, one trackind enhancer, 5x Cap relays.
It gives me an optimal with my (mediocre) gunnery skills of 60KM with radio crystals. I keep 7 multifrequency around in case something appears nearby.
My biggest problem is that firing all 7 beams at one frigate target means I have to wait a cycle for them to stop shooting when the frigates die in one volley. NPC rat cruisers also die quickly. and I can stay out of range of just about any return fire except missiles. Works great vs NPCs. I have not tried it against NPC battleships, not will I try.
PCs would beat me like a whack-a-mole, but that's not what I'm interested in fighting.

Edited by: Kaylon Syi on 02/02/2004 22:00:54 6 Named 720mm Howlizers ( Phased Plasma M for PVP and Photon M for NPC hunting ) and 2 Med Smart bombs
1 XL Shield Booster, Hardner, 1 Eutektic II Cap Recharger
2 Proj Dmods ( Pneumatics work nice ), 5 Cap Relays and 1 1600mm armor plating
If NPCs kill you... your doing something wrong. If you die in PvP... rinse and repeat last statement.
Edit : don't forget 5 wasps and 5 ogres in the drone bay if it comes to that.

Put 7 1400 howitizers. The Armaggedon has the powergrid, and the 1400s won't use up much of the Armaggedon's meager CPU anyway.
ROF, what ROF? A lot of things die in the first volley of the 7 1400s anyway. If they survive, they will almost surely die in the next.
The only thing more frightening than this, is an Apoc with 8 1400s.

Sure, if the pilot has miner 2's on, your gonna stale mate him. However, if he isnt a moron he is carrying drones (or smartbombs) your toast

Ok, for all n00blars.
The armageddon is useless for 1vs1 PvP. It's only use is as a damagedealer in large fights.
Based on the fact that 3 medslots is not enough to shield tank your ship. To cope with incoming damage you'll also have to use armor repairers, and then you will run out of cap.
Yes, the armageddon does deal huge damage when using something like 7 dual heavy pulse. But that damage is not enough to kill another ship before he kills you.

Yeah right, you won't kill a battleship with 2 volleys (unless the average shot is ~1100 damage). The point of battleships isn't to kill frigates/cruisers, so I'd say rof surely matters...

Thanks folks for all the suggestions. I should clarify that intially I am looking for a good NPC 0.0 system setup. I'm pretty certain I don't have the skillz (yet) to make a good PvP fit. As for the guy who reckons they could take me in a cruiser. I got a drone bay full of ogres and praetors that would like to introduce you to a pod if my guns don't first.

Edited by: Harakiri on 03/02/2004 12:30:47 Edited by: Harakiri on 03/02/2004 12:29:01 I love my Arma and wouldnt switch it for another ship ;)
Im not a PVP'er , dont use my setup in a PVP situation , NPC only thanks!
High: 3x1400mm , 4xHeavy beams , 1xmedium smartbomb
Med: 1xMwd , 1xThermal , 1xlarge shieldbooster (or a medium CL5)
Low: 5xCap relays , 1xtracking enhancer 1xtarget booster, 1xheatsink
Cargo: Radio & Multifreq chrystals + choose your fav ammo for projs
High: Remove a laser and put a 720mm proj if you have problem fitting. Med: You can switch thermal for a shield amp. Low: You can tweak this setup and remove some low to fit a counterbalanced and/or cpu to fix the proj-damage & cpu demand. The cap is good enough with all electronic skills at high levels.
Alternative setup - laser only (this was better before patch):
High: 1-2xTachyons , 2xheavy beams , 2x650mm proj , 1xcloseup proj weapon like 250mm , 1xmedium smartbomb.
Med: Same as above
Low: As many cap-relays as possible + heatsink
Cargo: Same as above
I have twinked with some nice armor tanking setups , however those are HARD to get viable cause you will have no CPU to fit any good guns.
Oh: and drones are useless in 0.0 - the NPC's eat them for breakfast.

I tested my setup against an apoc using 4 tachyons with multi L and 2 launchers with torps against me. After 15 minutes we agreed to stop. Same with a megathron afterwards. Armageddon CAN shieldtank.
To the guy who wanna paste me in cruiser: Sent igame mail to Stonyvison and i'll find the time to sent you back to clone station be sure of that.

Okay this is what I used agains pretty big spawns in 0.0
High 4xTachs with Radio (longrange lets you solo big spawns) 2xMed smartbombs (keep the missile damage minimal) (2 slots left??? so what :))
Mid 1xSensor booster (again long range) 1xLargeshield booster (if you can fit a XL let me know how ;)) 1xLif AB (AB is fast enough and don't drains you cap)
Low 6xPower Cap Relay (Cap is life) 2xReactor Unit (Just to fit everyting)
Cargo 4xMultispecs (if they get to close)
Drones Ogres and Wasps (if they get to close)
Usage: Simple get 100km from the spawn(jump in at 60km bookmark jump back)turn sensor booster on. Pick frigates 4 at the time start shooting one tach each. After the frigates are gone target ONE cruiser, it will come after you so try to keep range by using the AB burn it with all 4 tachyons and if you get missile spamed use the 2 smartbombs.
Rinse repeat with the cruisers, just remember to take out the fast ones first and don't let them come closer than 20km. If they do and you can't get out switch to the multispecs and use the drones.
Hope this helps, I really enjoyed this setup hunting npc in 0.0, now I moved on to the Apoc.
