tikinish	Posted - 2007.08.06 01:54:00 - [1] Okey this may sound a little harsh and i apology for that, but am I the only one wondering about the lack of respect and intelligence of the people on the eve forum? I am saying this because it seems like 90% of the people are NOT even bothered to read the tread they are answering. What is the point in making a comment to a post you didnÆt even read? I have been wondering for some time since I am a multi forum hugger and I love reading almost anything within development, dev post (blogs), peopleÆs ideas and in general just to read about what people think is important to come out with. And eve compared to almost any other mmo I have tried or actually ANY other forum I have been hugging, it seems that the maturity is just on a big fat minus. People are showing no respect for the ideaÆs or posters, they are showing no respect for the creators of the game, they are showing as good as no interest in what they are posting about. It seems like bunch of children, no one is actually trying to listen or to come with pointers for bettering or the faults it could have with it, or just their thought on the subject. Nop on eve forums they are flaming, using impolite languish and in general not adding any constructiveness to the whole idea of a forum. The first thing you should do when entering a treat, is reading it carefully and understanding it. Then you should read at least the first few sites of replies (if there is already a few sites. This is so you donÆt just stamp in on something already in discussion but actually then go and add to the discussion instead). Then you should try to greet and be polite and welcoming in your answer, and you shouldnÆt at any time smack talk or flame. And if you do not have to time to argue for your point of few and the calculations or the materiel or links to build your ôfactsö upon, then you should make it clear that ôI THINK, I canÆt be sure, but I think it is etcö. Well after saying all this I know that most of the people reading this far need a apology from me, since I am not being fair and of cause there is A LOT of good posters out there, but in general eve forum just seems like the most childish forum I have ever posted on. To all those people , that actually are doing what I believe to be the right way of using a forum and replying to it, a happy thank you for all those wonderful and very entertaining treads and good ideaÆs you have made. But you can't make a post like that and expect people not to mock it. Like that guy that posted on his wrecks being salvaged, would he have asked (or better yet have been doing research before hand) about it it would not have been a problem. It's his "I'm right, you're all idiots muahhaha" while actually having no clue is just so hilarious he gets what he deserves. Not really unlike your OP tbh... But ofcourse there's always the cool kiddies who stay cool by bashing others, it helps their low self esteem. This has nothing to do with EVE though, you see those everywhere. Yes, I use lasers, please stop laughing in the back.

This is actually a pretty good forum, but i can see how at a glance it may appear worse than it actually is. Back in the day the forum was cleaner with more people willing to help than to flame or derail topics (i noticed by the 926549% increase in mods at work).

The problem is there are several reasons why a reply lacks any relevance or usefull content and i will list what can cause it: - Bad spelling (not just 1 word but lots), it is no reason to hammer down an post people should be able to to respect non foreign posters. Not everyone has had a proper study in the english language & its writing i would rather have people who cant really speak or write english very well to attempt to write it then that they would just mindlessly post in their own language (these forums would become an real mess then if it would be allowed). - Just plain trolling, responses as tl;dr (to long did not read) serve no suitable purpose at all and do not belong anywhere as an "reply". It often is the case that people just reply because they want to reply and do not carefully write out the post and might end up saying things they did not intend in a certain way or just general lack of interest for the topic and they want to voice it in an certain way. - offtopic responses, most of the times people want to add onto something they read later and it is offtopic for this OP (original poster) but would be relevant to the ongoing discussion. This said i think the behaviour of people on these forums should hold more consequences as they do right now. An occasional joke / offtopic post shouldn't be that bad but an topic constructed to derail an discussion, an response intentionally created to cause flameing or any other rule breaking post repeatedly made by an same poster should get warned not just by an edit but also by an actual mod warning. If an person gets to many warning on his account its an temp ban, happens to often say goodbye to your forum posting priviledges. Intentionally creating (an) alt and continueing the behaviour anyway might even hold consequences for your game account. Add penalties to offending the rules and it will quickly stop (yes it takes alot of effort to do so). Also i once created and implemented the idea of an subforum ban which basicly means if an person misbehaves in for example general discussions he/she gets an ban on that forum. If he / she proves on other forums that he or she can participate in discussions in a normal way this ban is lifted (it works great in our case although it may not really for these forums). Our own forum users are between the ages of 10-18 mostly and most of the discussions can go in an organised way but it does need rules, very strict rules because people of those ages often do not consider things the way for example an 30 year old may. Guide to fix eve problems. Patch day recommendations
