Hi there... well, I would be a pirate and I am here to ask suggestions to the old veterans. First of all, WHEN do you think it's safe to start the career? I think it's a suicide for now, I am on a frigate and I see MANY ships that are 50 times bigger than mine (size matters! :D). Also, WHERE to pirate? Systems 0.4 are ok or I must go from 0.3 and below?

When? Right now. Frigate piracy is very possible and very fun. I suggest working on your ship setup first.
Where? 0.4 and below. I recommend lowsec areas in caldari space, as there's plenty of newbies npc'ing there, so it's a good place for a rookie pirate to get some kills under their belt.

Interesting, but if I go in an area 0.4 I will find easily veteran players that will... well, pirate me and I will not be able to do anything against their huge ships.
The thing of stealing from the miners... how to do that? What do I need?

Ye but I don't know how to steal from the ore can... I just get near to them and open their cargo? Maybe if they are sleeping they will allow me!

Miners often jetison their ore into cargo containers. Fly to their container, open it, and open your cargo. Remove some of their ore into your cargo. Jetison the ore from your cargo into a container, then move the rest of their ore into your new container. Simple.

I suggest you join Racketeers. You may not get the big scary -10.0 security status (which would mean you're ALWAYS prey to other pirates as you won't be able to come into high sec space) but you'll be loathed and despised just like a real pirate should be... http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t281/jegeroks/rackateers-signature01copy.gif |

well, it's never "safe" to pirate, you will always lose ships, especially when youre starting out. that said i think it's better to start when you're in a dinky little cheap frig, cause then you will only be out a very few iskies when it pops.
i suggest you kit out a punisher or a rifter and try your luck in .4 or lower. properly kitted punishers will eat caracals for lunch, and youre sure to find many caras in caldari lowsec.
as far as other pirates go... watch your back. you will be in a frig so it should be easy to escape if you get jumped but always watch local and when fighting someone spam 360 deg scan shortrange.

Thanks, I have now a Bellicose full optional and I think that in short I will have the pirate equipment I need, then I will start my "career" :D _________________ Honor before all. |

Hey SO,
I'm a rookie piewate in training too. There is a thread I began on the rookie Q&A thread with some info from a young PvP corps experiences with flying low sec while new. Many vets have also put in their advice, experiences and tips as well. We are having a blast down here and I encourage you to check out the thread for tools to avoid the "big boys" until you get bigger and badder . And I agree with an above poster RifterSwarming is a lot of fun! I think this weekend we'll see how many of us are on and see what's the biggest thing we can take down .

Stay out of low sec until you trust your skills. It's much easier to practice on miners. Just get a good pvp frig like the tristan, rifter, or kessie. Go out and start stealing. People will attack you. Mostly at first you will die, but occasionally you will win. Every victory and defeat will teach you valuable lessons.

I didn't stay out. Have been here since day 1 of my trial and had some great fights, met some good folks (even the one's that kicked my @$$) and basically been having the best time I've ever had in an MMO. The problem with blanket statements is they just never seem to apply to everyone .

I didn't make a blanket statement. I made a suggestion about a possible course of action. A blanket statement might have gone something like... "It's completely impossible to learn how to be a pirate by <insert behavior here>" or one of my favorite worthless blanket statements "No one who stays in Empire can be a pirate"

Airapheals sure fire guide to becoming a pirate.
step 1. buy a ship with at least one weapon.
step 2. kill someone
step 3. shout y'arr in local

It's easy to pirat from the start, I even stole all the ore, and sold it to afford my first frigate. :P I suggest you join a pirat corp or flip cans in high sec, soloing in low sec with 800k SP is bloody hard.

Yes, and no. I've been doing just that for the past 1.5-2 months and I would say the most "difficult" part is knowing what you can and can't handle, which comes with time and experimentation. You'll still find targets you can take down, but just as often you'll find targets that are way out of your league but you didn't realize it until it was too late. signature removed - please resize it to be less than 120 pixels in height - Jacques([email protected]) |

Except people hate Racketeers because they just abuse everyone in local, post abusive **** on the forums, and are in general, tosspots. Not because they're pirates.
