Ok so I'm new at EVE, have only been playing for about a week now or so. I have tons of fun so far, hunting NPC pirates and salvaging cargo containers. Oh I'm sorry, did I take your cargo container? Too bad. So anyway, I've managed to join up with a decent corp and we hang out in 0.2 space. As you can guess, this is tough for a new guy like me in only a frigate but I manage to stay alive, though I've lost my fair share of ships. :)
ANYWAYS...I'm wondering why I keep reading all these posts about people whining about PVP or griefers. I mean seriously, its a space game. People shoot each other in space. I don't see a problem with getting shot at or shooting at people, its what makes EVE so much fun! If you are hanging out in 0.4 space or lower, trying to mine some rare ore or just exploring or whatever it may be; you have to accept the consequences. That's just how I see it. If you don't want to lose your precious ship I merely suggest you stay in 0.5 space or higher and orbit the sentry guns. And if you do feel you have been griefed or whatever, why don't you people do something about it instead of making forum posts. Go round up your corp for some revenge! Go hire another corp to help you out! Get your corp to put out a bounty! Im not sure if I've gotten off topic or what not, but it just seems to me there are plenty of other viable options for dealing with pirates and riff raff. Just my two cents.

Everyone's a carebare, everyone's a whiner, everyone's a pirate and everyone's right some time or other. Just learn to ignore those posts and you'll be fine :-)

Having the threat of pvp pirates is what makes this game so good, i do however have some problems with the mechanics of the game.. Though its something CCP can never fix.
Pirates have the luxury of 'stopping when things get too hot'. And when someone logs off, its just the same as if that person never existed in the first place.

For the record: i dont mind getting my ship blown up by pirates and yes.. pvp is fun (adrenaline etc). I never complain when i lose a ship, but this being a discussion forum... i might aswell say what i think this game lacks. I just really hope player owned stuff will change all that. -------

Most pirates prey can and do do that to. Logging in battle is common to players on both sides of the line.

to me that is more of an ingame flaw. if there was say a penalty to logging out while engaged in combat, aka if you log out while in combat your ship will stay in space for 2 minutes, to me that tactic would be useless. would be better to try and run or fight then log. and even if you do get your ass kicked, at least you may have caused some damage, and you will cost that pirate some isk to fix up his ship. and maybe next time he/she will think twice about crossing you. just a thought...

wait until you put in 4 months of hard work to have someone you think you can trust scam you out of everything you worked for... oh, you'll be whining. you say what you say, cuz you're a noob and have no assets. give it time for people in the game to take advantage of you, exploit, scam, deceive, and ruin your entire game experience.
ever look at the market or escrow?... 85% are scams. watch your back, cuz someone claiming to gang and help you mine or fight will be the guy popping your battleship.

oh and i was just thinking some people may raise some issues to this system. "what if they really get knocked off" or "what if someones windows crash." although a possibility, a rare one at that, im sure ccp could log instances of people pressing esc and clicking quit, and compare that to some dynamic database which could confirm whether someone was in combat and manually quit; or hit ctrl+alt+del and ended process. just an idea.
btw i love this game. i almost took my first step into piracy today, but realized merlin vs. apocalypse is probably not a good idea. mwahahhaa

and to carey, you say people may scam you after 4 months or so. yes that probably sucks. but there is a reason there are multiple divisions created in a corp. you can set security ratings on those divisions for access. i mean really, the ceo should ALWAYS have one division devoted only to them and no one else. that is just common sense and business savvy in this world and in others. you can only trust people as far as you can throw them...or something. i mean i feel for you, you got robbed which sucks ass. but like i said, divisions were created for a reason. or so it seems to me. seems REAL logical to me...
as for escrow and all that other bs...any pilot worth his/her salt would only accept half or some percentage to begin with before accepting a mission just to make sure nothing bad happens. again, maybe i see things differently...

I'm an alt, my main has been playing for 8 months. trust me... game has had its ups and downs... and right now, its in the dump. the game is based on scams, exploits, deceptions, lies, and bugs continue to screw people over. Support has also been lacking.
the only ones sticking around are the hardcore pirates and alliances that claim 0.0 areas and hoard all the megacyte.

From the FAQ:
Quote: A scam is the act of obtaining goods from other players through misinformation, confusion, pressure or by taking advantage of basic trust. Players enter into business dealings with others at their own risk and are strongly urged to exercise good judgement and common sense when trading.
Quote: However, if a scam is reported and investigation shows that exploiting was not involved, depending on the circumstances and the severity of the scam, we may choose not to intervene.
Quote: Spying, scheming, double-dealing and espionage are devilishly delicious features of EVE for those who relish walking on the dark side. Corporation leaders are urged to exercise extreme caution when accepting new members, particularly when granting access to their private communications and corporate holdings. There are criminal elements in EVE who can, and will, take advantage of unsuspecting marks.
Carey, did you read the FAQ before starting to play the game? Don't blame CCP, or whinge and moan about being scammed because as you can see above, you had ample warning.

yes please...power to my man Voss Matzu (sp?). you can be damn sure i would never play a game where there was no possibility of deceit, surprise attacks, or corruption. lets face the facts here...if it was all happy-dappy "lets mine and have a good time," where would be the excitement in mining or doing anything else?! i see it very simply:
you can't have the good without the bad.

if you played as long as i have, you would know they put that in the FAQ after many complaints and petitions. yes i know it can happen, and thats why i'm quitting.
dont give me the "ample warning" speech cuz its useless, just like the game is.
ask yourself if its worth it... to you it may be, to me its not. you may have the time to waste and rot away your life... be my guest.

Carey Carey Carey... I've got the EVE box here that i received in June 2003, talking about murder, plunder and betrayal. If you thought there was going to be no deceit in the game, you are ignorant. It is a MMOG, where you play against people. Some people lie and deceive, it's human nature. Go back to playing single player games.
I was here in the beta stages and there was plenty of deceit, spying etc then too (remember the whole EC/TTI thing). Its been here since the start of the game. I suppose people are just sick of you whining and moaning because you got played.

lol STFU 1 less carebear to whine
can ihave your stuff.... actually better not i already got basic miners I mean c'mon, just think about it. What would make more sense then the 3 most hated alliances teaming up to lay waste to the people they all hate anyways? CA is already allied with PA, and TPS lies between the two alliances. Natural allies to be sure. But it's not just that, all but PA (and even some of them) have adopted a "stfu and die, or come and fight us, we don't give a **** what you think or do" philosophy, as well as a PvP Kill everyone not friend kind of mentality. These are the people in eve that kill or convert, the ones dedicated to the death of others, because history, circumstance, and the rest of eve have driven then to do so (except TPS, who are just cool ass pirates ). |

Personally i agree with all you guys. Pirates are a pain...but thats their job. If there wasn't any pirates then we'd all be flying around in weak ships doing jack all but mining all the time. we'd fly around being all nicey nice to everyone building things and collecting things... ...now tell me...where is the fun?
if you've gone out to 0.0 and got your self a cargo hold of mega and your on your way back to central with it...you keep your eyes open and you watch the map to make sure that you dont run into any trouble. you feel the pressure on you and when you finally make it make you feel great.
now if you were to do that without pirates it wouldn't really be much of a task.
We have pirates, we have fights..its what guns are for.
load yourself up with some good weapons and get yourself into a fight and feel the blood pumping round your body as you fire that last missile that destroys some BS that has been trying to bring you down.
this game is about risks, they are out there...learn to deal with it or learn to stay in 1.0 systems.
