I just got an Iteron III to move stuff around with and it has 90 power and 860 cpu.
I have filled the low spots with expanders and have a 10mn AB.
I also put a med shield booster on but that still leaves about 30 power and almost 800 cpu.
With my Incursus and Catalyst the cpu and power seem to balance out when you have filled all the slots but with the Iteron I would still have 700 cpu left.
I am only cruising around Hi-sec learning the ropes at the moment so its not a real issue if half the slots are empty but I am just curious as to what i'm missing.

You aren't missing anything.
Cargo expanders used to use CPU, so all the industrials have crazy CPU. Check out the Badger Mark II for a laugh some time.

Thx for clearing that up
how long does it take ccp to update the avatars i have been playing for about 3 weeks so I would have assumed it would be sorted by now

industrials should have more cpu power as they are geared towards heavy operations where the load put on them from the lasers and upgrades and shields would be greater then the com type ships.
do you take a porsche into a roid belt to mine?

They were AFAIK intended to be fitted with small reprocessing units and other heavy machinery...

This is the truth. Why CCP never got to put that stuff ingame I am not sure but I suspect can mining.

Nah, if they had put them in the game when they first mentioned it they wouldn't be able to try to give us a worthless Capital ship now.....

industrials have huge cpu because at a time in beta the devs were going on about giving them refining modules but it never happened

Try combat fitting one. For a laugh one night I stuck a nos, tech2 blaster, web, scram, cap booster, and armor tank on an iteron III and went out flipping cans. Ganked a mining barge and almost had a mining vexor, but he had a 30 second head start on shooting me and his drones were breaking my tank faster than my 1 blaster was breaking his, so I warped out (he didnt have a scram).
