I agree. It would not be difficult at all to alter the ship models to feature a basic interior in the*****pit. Then all you would have to do is tweak the camera model to allow positioning inside the 3d object. Once inside, you could click and drag to move your head around and look at stuff. Like out the left/right window and look at the*****pit textures.
Such a feature would offer no conceivable use. Infact, you would have a reduced situational awareness and be hindered in combat. It would just look cool and give a refreshing perspective from the pilot's seat.

Er.... U aint in a cokpit. U are in the pod connected to a lot of wires and ****e. Think matrix.

anyway, most ships have some type of bridge....
and there should not be a problem to mount a camera next to the captains seat, even if there is no captain
for myself, i would enjoy a view right out of the "Nose" of a ship, noo need 4 additional instruments and stuff...
cause, wenn you give out orders, you would "feel" more like the ship, turning slowly or swiftly... and would not require much coding, exept some sort of fixed camera
