Hey guys wanna fit my new ship with a small shield extender but it says I need to train a skill called upgrade shields but I cant find it in my skill list. Where and how do I get this skill? Thanks...

Skills need to be purchased in the form of skillbooks - they're usually sold in various places around the region you're in. If you go to the market and select the "Skills" tab, I believe it's under the Engineering section. Hope this helps.

in the old days before the tutorial there was figure it out yourself by looking at market.

Like was stated above, you need to buy, then train it; however, if you are just starting out, what do you need a shield extender for? Try and pick a specific area you want to improve in (mining, fighting, industry, navigation) and cocentrate on that. I'm still pretty noob myself :)

it's actually a quite useful mod for surviving those level 1 missions at low skills.
