Hello guys, just at work borde to death reading reviews and all that good stuff before I make my final decision on what vid card(s) to buy when it dawned on me. Some one(forget who) told me(about a month ago) they needed to disable their SLI(second vid card) to propperly run eve.
Is running 2 vid cards(SLI) supported for EVE? Is there software conflicts? When I do get my second vid card and go SLI, am I going to see improved FPS or is it going to bring me problems? For EVE ofcourse. This is the first time I have ever heard of SLI causing problems for a game so, I just wanted to bouble check on the forums... What happens here will probably determin my choice, as far as getting 2 320 GTSs or 1 640 GTS.
Please dont even bring up the GTX! If I could afford it, thats the card I would be getting...

You do understand that EVE-Online will see almost no performance gain from your SLI setup itself right?
This is because the current client uses your CPU to much of its work, and only uses the graphical card to display smaller fraction of the artwork in the game. I couldn't think of a reason why you would have a problem with EVE-Online once you start using your cards in SLI mode.

Um, no, I didnt know this. If I did, I wouldnt have asked. So, you are telling me for sure you know there will be no improvement but no conflict?

I don't know much about the difference between single and sli setup but I for myself have 2 GeForce 8800 GTX in a SLi setup and eve is running fine. I play at 1920x1200 resolution, all things set to maximum quality and I still get between 100 and 170 fps.
I have no idea how this would be like with only one 8800 GTX since I started eve like a few days ago after I bought the new hardware stuff but I can assure you I have no problems because of SLi.

I can't say there will no improvement but with a recent card you should be able to have maxium performance within EVE-Online. At least any performance that would be because of the graphics card itself, clearly you can always have a faster computer. Your system will be using two graphical cards which will behave as one graphics card, clearly your system will have more resources it can use, which is always a good thing.
EVE-Online's client is starting to age, there is a additional graphical changes in the works which you should attempt to read about if you want to know more about those changes.

WOW! thats sweet! Nice set up... Thank you very much for the input! That was the kind of response I was looking for! I wish I could get 2 GTXs. I mean, I guess I could but, bah! My comp was supposed to be done by the 15th of this month. If I keep upgrading myself as I go, It wont be done till the 16th of next month. Bad enough I dont have anything to play on at home plus with the upgrades I have to wait till the first before I order my card.
I am going to go with the EVGA 8800GTS 640 mb and just overclock it... Month after that I will get the second one. Waste of money to buy factory over clocked cards when you can just use NVID's controll pannel and do it your self. Still not as good as your GTXs though... You da man..
Thanx for your input as well Phantom. Its good to hear CCP is jumping to DX10. The only thing I am worried about is vista isnt the OS of gamers choice. Simply because you need a monster comp just to run the OS and then try to game on top of it?! Maybe when they release a good service pack but, till then. I am sticking with XP...
You wouldnt happen to have a link to the changes, would you?

You can always in the future buy an additional EVGA 8800GTS card and enable SLI at that time, plus you will be able to add that second card for alot less then you could do it now, and will get the exact same performance when you need it.
I wish you good luck and hope we helped you make the correct choice.
