I just started EVE on a trial account. Been playing for several days and quite enjoying it, except the game randomly crashes me during combat. I don't mean crash to desktop or blue screen of death either. I mean it forces my computer to restart with absolutely no warning.
It doesn't seem to be performance related, as there's no correlation between the crashes and the number of ships involved in combat, and I've already tried setting the graphics as low as they will go. I no longer receive any slowdown, the game just crashes. I've also shutdown all unnecessary background programs that I know of.
I'd have my cruiser by now if it weren't for the fact that it makes mission running agonizingly slow. Anyone have any idea what is causing this?

Actually, the same thing is happening to me since their Database upgrade.
I've tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling to no win.

Updated my video card drivers just in case. It hasn't helped.
Just for a little added incentive to anyone that cares: There's absolutely no way I'm buying this game if it keeps doing this. It's barely playable.

I have had this problem maybe 5 times or so in the past 16 days. It generally happens after long periods of playing, and all of a sudden my computer will restart. I am not sure whats causing this either, most people I talk to say its sound-related.

random reboots are likely heat related...
When was the last time you cleaned the dust from your computer?
If you are running AMD processors, you are more prone to heat related reboots than with Intel. Intel CPUs tend to slow down when overheated but keep going.
I had a similar problem (sloooooooow performance in every game). I found the dust had clogged my CPU heatsink and the compound joining it to the processor had started breaking down...
Cleaned it out (use compressed air, NOT a vacuum if you want it to live!!) and refreshed the heat sink compound. Since then, it's been running cool and fast...
A cool Intel CPU FTW!

I have had this issue as well. Try and petition it, good luck though, it's gonna take a while, I've had my petition in over 2 weeks now and we are just to the starting stage of troubleshooting.
One thing I have noticed is shutting off the sound card under the device manager does not help. So I'm not entirely sure that it's sound related. Seems to happen a lot more with multiple accounts running.
And no it's not a dust/cpu heat issue, I keep a close eye on it, and I am well within normal range.

It is not a heat issue. As I said in the opening post, the crashing is not related to the speed of performance at all. It's essentially random.
And besides, a part of my computer case is actually open, so it receives plenty of ventilation.

I've had this issue since the hardware upgrade on Thursday. When I start the game up it locks up after 5 minutes, everytime. It only happens with the game. That pc is set up explicitly to play one of my eve characters, it's not on except when I play the game.

These random crashes used to happen to me all the time when in battle and gangs. They stopped when I brought up my directx settings (start>run>dxdiag) and changed my sound acceleration. I only put it down one notch and it hasn't happened since. You should try it.

I tried running Eve with no hardware acceleration on my audio, and it still managed to make my computer restart. I've tried each setting, and no matter what, as long as you stay logged on long enough, it will randomly restart your box.
At one point I thought it fixed itself somehow, seeing as I was playing for 4 hours, but out of the blue I crashed. I thought it may have had to do with gangs or drones, because each time I joined a gang it would happen, or whenever I released a drone, but now it's just doing it whenever.

It seems to be working now. Thanks.

How much RAM have you got ? I've not had eve reset my machine for ages [and then it was because my Video card was dieing ] check your ram with http://www.memtest86.com/ or http://www.memtest.org/ not sure which is best - but they don't cost anything.
now I have to say I have used eve on about 40 different machines in the last month and never had it reboot the machine - a couple could hardly move in space - but that was because of the video cards from being very old.
post your machine specs and we'll see if anything flags .
