Righto, so I got a bit happy with the range on some of my orders and now have a good chunk in lowsec. One system in particular has the majority, and it's a damn infested hellhole.
Now the value of the items isn't huge, but it's enough to tempt me to pick them up.
My question to my fellow traders is this: Do I go and get them, hire someone else to get them (contract), try and remote sell them (hasn't seemed to work well in the past), or forget about it?

I had a few good items in low sec that I pickup up thru buy orders and I found putting them up on a contract for Auction helped a lot! That way I don't risk my life in lo-sec but still get my profit :)

If it's not much then just fit a frigate for speed and take that, it's what I do.
Otherwise you may have to ask someone to scout or use an alt.

Since I use ranged Buy Orders to acquire junk from Mission runners I also get a lot of low sec stuff! Even at short ranges it's difficult to avoid lowsec completely.
If it's a system that I believe has no pirate activity then I might go in and haul it out myself, taking the obvious precautions. If it's pirate infested then I put out open contracts. I try to limit them to a few jumps, maybe to the nearest accessible hi sec system where I can pickup later.
This works well in Caldari State, I can't speak for less populated areas. I've never had defaulters or non shows (ie they got yarred) so maybe there are too few such runners to be worth pirates waiting for them. Or maybe it's Mr Evil Pirate doing the hauling himself, I don't ask :-)
Just remember to keep the value and size of the cargo below reasonable limits. A courier isn't going to want to be in lowsec with a rack of Cargo Expanders fitted carrying megamillions worth of stuff.

Also when running thru lo-sec use the feature on the map which shows how many pilots are in each jump in the route....that way you are making a slightly more informed opinion ;)
I just use a condor with MWD and either ECM or swap out the MWD for a stabber and pray ;)

I have to admit that I'm a little bit incredulous. I view the risk of a few jumps into Low Sec to be almost nothing. Just scout it in something cheap right before you bring your hauler in to make sure things are clear. A massive gate camp is really the only thing you have to worry about, and if you're not on a main travel route, then there's probably not one.
It's not like you have to wait outside the station under fire while cargo is loaded.

Covops? Changed my market experience completely.
Only place to be concerned is undocking, and if you warp 10k from the station under cloak, you should - along with an eye on local, the maps, etc - have a very good idea if you can dock safely.

I love my covops for picking up good deals in shady systems. If you happen to have an insta-undock bookmark, you're as close to perfectly safe as it gets in lowsec. --
