What is the general concensus on which, out of Minmatar and Amarr, is better for PvP?
Why are they better?

You talk like there is only 1 kind of PVP in EVE and there is something "the best" at it.
PVP more and you will realize this is a false statement.
I will say that Amarr are more group PVP oriented and Minmatar favor speed setups.

either you had an argument/bet with a friend or try to start a flame... there's no answer someone else can give you. it's one of the things to find out for yourself

I'm trying to decide whether to stick with Minmatar or change to Amarr.
I like Minmatar so far other than they can't tank for ****
What I'm trying to decide whether I should swop over to Amarr for a bit more of PvE (in Amarr space obviously) along with semi decent PvP. I'm also not a fan of training two or more races, I would rather specialise.
I'm posting about it here as it takes around 90 days to specialise in the Gunnery alone, I'd rather get some ideas other than my own on this before changing - if I do.
Cheers, Pat

As of the current patch Minmatar have an easier time solo pvping due to their excellent speed and capless weapons.
Amarr function very well in gang pvp but suffer solo due to less speed and cap dependant weapons.
If you want to solo stick with Minmatar for now. They are the most effective solo pvpers in the game by far. Any dumbass who says Gallente is better has been spending too much time reading dps graphs and not enough time actually flying.
If you want to do gang pvp Amarr are great. Zealot is a great anti frig sniper like the Muninn. Harb does a crap ton of damage just like the Hurricane. t1 Amarr cruisers are pretty terrible with the exception of the Arbitrator. That ship just plain owns. With 10mn MWD/20km PT/2x90% Web and a HP tank it can beat down almost any other t1 cruiser. Stabber being the big exception due to excellent speed and the falloff of autocannons.
Amarr BS are a mixed bag. Beams have stupid fitting and cap requirements which makes them hard to use but they do excellent dps if you can get them fit and keep them in cap.
Recon wise the Curse/Pilgrim are amazing. Upcoming Nos nerf is going to hurt them but I don't know how much. Huginn/Rapier are excellent gang ships. One of the few ships Vaga pilots are truly scared of.
Dunno about ceptors. Minmatar has the best Interdictor by far.

For the ceptors, minmatar has the stiletto and the claw. Claw - really really ******** lock range, something like 21km with LRT V, but probably the best frigate (bar the crow ) for 1v1s with other frigates be they T2 or T1. Stiletto - Thefleet tackler, with four mid slots giving up to -6 points and an MWD this is where it's at for holding stuff in place.. Not as much good now 'cos of the WCS nerf, but still handy as you can fit a cap injector or whatever in the fourth mid slot.

Edited by: Tamoko on 10/08/2007 00:53:37 Minmatar... ... can fire without using capacitor ... can tank both shields and armor, but some of their ships demand one or the other ... can vary their damage types somewhat ... can perform impressive speed tanks ... have the most versatile ships However, Minmatar... ... require significantly greater skill points to be effective
Amarr... ... have the highest raw, unmodified damage from their guns ... can shoot impressive distances with their high end beam lasers ... can armor tank very well However, Amarr... ... require a great deal of capacitor to fire their guns ... have few mid slots on some of their ships, limiting their electronic warfare ... are limited in the types of damage they deal ... have a large gap between their short and long range guns in optimal range ---

I believe doing lvl4 missions in a thypoon is easier then in any other amarr BS.
4x launcher, + Drones and close to dual armor rep tanks (I havent tried one in actual flight thou, perhaps someone better informed can give more on this)

Actually, I think the number crunchers determined that an Abaddon is more productive at level 4s, even when not doing sansha/blood missions. ---

Don't mind all these idealists. The general consensus is Mimmatar > Amarr no question about it.

yes, but as faithfull amarr you always have some minmatar slaves to throw against your foes, while you sit in your capital and get a footmassage by some exotic dancers :p

Until CCP brings speed-tanks back in to balance (IE: Never. And no, the nano nerf didn't fix the problem, only reduced it), Minmatar will continue to pwn solo/small gang pvp.
Fleet engagements are a bit different since you generally need raw tank due to being lagged to oblivion.

Whichever you like better is better. Picking a race to spec based on how good they are in the current iteration of the game is ********. By the time you can fly T2 cruisers and T2 fit battleships the entire climate of the game will be different.
Pick one race and stick with it. Every race will go through periods where they are best and worst, but if you flip flop around to try to match the FotM you will always suck. -

Gallente have been FOTM for years and still recieve occasional boosts, they are a safe bet. However Amarr and Minmatar are both well PvP capable (minnie more so at the moment, but that may change in the future). Just as long as you don't go Caldari you'll be fine.

Someday our paths with cross in space. Perhaps at a gate, perhaps in a battle. Nonetheless our paths will cross. You will pay Amarr slime!
