race/bloodline doesn't matter
all races have interceptors, which is what you want. =AFK=

so interceptor is where i want to be. but the way everyone talks, i should stay away from caldari.. consider minmatar and gallente.. and amarr are tough to play...
whats the pro's/con's of the races when going for interceptors?

well this is more adequately discussed in the ships/fittings forum but...
each race's interceptors and ships have their own pros and cons but basically:
gallente ships are close range and have good tanks minmatar ships are close/long range and dont have tanks amarr ships are very varied in damage and range but are slow caldari ships are long range and very damaging
the gallente interceptor (the taranis) is a very good interceptor and deals alot of damage for something so small and fast but its the slowest interceptor out there
the caldari interceptor (crow) is the fastest interceptor in the game, you can make it go 7km/s and it attacks things at max range of its warp scrambler which would be 20km+ so its usually safe from harm
the amarr interceptor and the minmatar interceptors i dont have too much experience with
but generally... minmatar is the hardest race to start off with because they use both systems of tanking: shield and armor and two types of weapons: missle and projectile. This makes them very very versatile and dangerous but takes a loooong time to train all that.
my recommendation is go gallente, work up from frigates to interceptors then to assault frigates, cruisers, battlecruisers and after that split off to the t2 ships or go into battleships... depends on your finantial situation.
interceptors are fast small nuggets of expensive equipment, they are meant to lock a ship down extremely fast and scram it so the bigger ships get to lock it and blow it away

Edited by: Mutten Chops on 11/08/2007 01:46:43 Minmatar all the way. Best speed ships in the game, and only guns that can effectively track and hit targets at high speeds. If you want speed you can go any race and bastardize a ship to go fast...though none will be as effective as the Minmatar lineup. But if you want to actually hit targets you only have two choices, Minmatar autocannons or missiles, which can oftentimes be found on Min ships. Minmatar as well give you the option of building the larger class ships fast and deadly as well. Yes all races have interceptors, but you'll tire of those eventually. And Min offers the option of fast guerilla cruiser class builds as well as Battlecruiser and Battleships. While you can do any race ceptor is true, after ceptor there are very few fast and agile options.
True Minmatar are a bit more skill intensive but worth it in the end. And hell, if you decide you want another ceptor after you train the Min ones, it only takes like 8 days to train another class to frig 5.

Edited by: Mudkest on 11/08/2007 18:35:41 if you want fast agile ships stay with frigates, though some cruisers are nice too. Minmatar battlecruisers and battleship may be somewhat faster and more agile then the other races, but theye are still battlecruiser and battleships, wich are big slow lumbering ships.
Minmatar are nice for fast/agile ships though, rifter(slasher) and stabber for t1 frigate/cruiser
interceptors are nice for fast and agile ships, and minmatar have the jaguar and vagabond, (heavy) assault interceptors :o

slasher if you prefer the "inty feeling" over "af feeling"
other then that, probe if you want to try out exploration(though exploration takes a great ammount of skills) burst for mining(though thrasher/cruiser might work better for that)
though personaly I used a vigil when I started out for mission running, prettier ship imo :)

Yup you want Minmatar, fast ship options from Frigate to Battleship (Machariel) if you wish
As for blood line either Bruto Slave Child gives you a very high perception and willpower although Sebiestor Rebels can let you start with rather balanced stats (exclude charisma). Good link below for stats by Race and Bloodline.
http://www.evegeek.com/attributes.php
Options that most would take Solider - Starts with great Gunnery Skills so you can fast track into damage.
Special Forces - Starts with uber speed and you can go right to cruisers if you wish and it will have you start with a level of Speed you might otherwise not be able to justify early on to train.

getting every racial frigate and racial turret to 5 does not take nearly as long as to specialize just in one race's big ships.
just start a character with high perception/willpower and burn through it

Interceptors are the fastest class of ship out there, and Minmatar ships are generally faster than the other races, but this is not a rule. Even some Minmatar Interceptors can be out-run by a well-fitted Amarr Battleship controlled by a highly-skilled pilot. ---

Heres a page from the goonfleet wiki concerning starting characters which includes a minmatar speedfreak. I've only glanced over the page myself, but seems like a good bit of info for a starting char.

you seemed to forget, minmatar ships have speed - lots of it. Gallente close > caldari long range damagewise. amarr have insane armor tanks, otherwise they're screwed.

This is downright wrong... The Claw is the fastest inty in the game, don't remember which are 2nd 3rd and so on, but iirc crow is the 3rd or 4th fastest. Claw easily reaches 10km/s, I belive that is without implants. Though the claw is arguably the best interceptor in the game
To the OP: if you're looking for fast, agile and lethal, I would suggest training minmatar. Once you get a vagabond you get a cruiser sized interceptor. Most of minmatar ships are fast and agile. Be aware that minmatar are probably the hardest race to train, since you have to put skillpoints in pretty much everything (in addition to the obvious, you need both in gunnery and missiles, and armor and shield tanking, and you should have a good chunk in navigation too)

The Stabber is a great option if you need to fly fast on the cheap though.
With reasonable Navigation skills and only T1 fitted, you should be able to hit speeds approaching those of Intys. More weaponry too

Like everybody has already said. Minmatar. However you should know what you are getting into. My constant headache is that I RP Minmatar so let me give you a breakdown of what you will be needing.
Drones:
Drones V Scout Drone Operation V (T2 light drones are a must to combat enemy drones) Racial Drone I (The higher the better) Drone Interfacing III Drone Navigation III Drone Durability III
Electronics:
Electronics V Electronics Upgrades IV Signature Analysis V (Part of flying fast ships is having a fast lock time)
Engineering:
Engineering V All shield and grid skills to at least IV (put the time in for V on rank 1 and 2 skills)
Gunnery: (Most of your SP)
Small Projectile V Medium Projectile V Weapon Upgrades V Everything else to IV (You can get away with AWU III is a lot of cases but put the effort in for IV)
Learning:
Basics V Advanced IV
Mechanic:
Mechanic V Hull Upgrades V Armor Repair V Compensation Skills IV (Put this at the end of your list, they are nice but not critical , same goes for shields)
Missiles:
Most mini ships you are going to be using guns and nos, or guns and cloaks, or guns and etc. Missiles are important for that extra bit of damage or if you are mission running. As a result you can get away with IV across the board or less. Put missiles down on your list last for skill categories or close to it.
Navigation:
Navigation V Evasive Maneuvering V Afterburner IV Acceleration Control IV High Speed Maneuvering IV
Spaceship Command: (your other big SP sink)
Spaceship Command V Frigates V Assault Frigates IV Interceptors IV Cruisers V Heavy Assault Cruisers IV Battlecruisers IV
So this is a lot of skills and a lot of time. There are also a bunch of secondary skills you will be training at the same time to gain access to other cool mods. This is over a years worth of work I have just laid out, but it is well worth it. Also this makes cross training very easy. You can train in order of use, so small guns and frigs first, cruisers and medium later, that will ease the burden. Once you have achieved all of this you are flying the fastest ships Tech 2'ed out and being shouted at from all sides by forum whiners that you are breaking the game by flying too fast to be caught, so there is a lot to look forward to. Good luck and join the ranks!

Its mostly correct but there are things you can do so its not so painful.
Drones - take the racials specs to 2 this will let you use Medium Racials.
Engineering - you can go lite on the shield skills early on if your okay focusing on Armor Tank ships , shield tanks being the Cyclone , Command Ships and Maelstrom to name a few. You will probably want shield but its not something you need at 1st unless your using the noted ships here. If you want to focus on Shield then you get to go lite on some of the Mech Skills.
Gunnary - you dont need to take the skills Small and Medium Projectiles to 5 until your ready to Spec in T2 guns. So early on you can use named guns , but yes you will probably need Small , Medium and possibly Large all at 5, good thing is that once you have this trained its easy to get the spec in both Arties and Autos.
Mech - See Engineering , you might be able to go lite here is you focus on Sheild tanks , also I dont see the need to take compensation beyond level 3 early on.
In the end I love Mini Ships , just takes some patience. Also once you are trained up in Mini you can cross train the ships of the other 3 races in a some what painless fashion.

If we are talking interceptors only - I would venture to say that Minmatar Interceptors are the worst in the game - the Claw's lock range is too ****ty to really make it work against a Gallente blaster and the steletto has lots of mids, but lacks anything close to firepower.
Fastest Interceptor is not Minmatar either - that prize goes to the Crusaider, which is also the highest damaging interceptor. The safest and most 'useful' tackler interceptor with an eye to do some damage would be the Crow which is strong against bigger ships rather then other interceptors. And finally the Tanaris, if it can catch you, you die - but the crow and the crusaider should be able to kite this close range killer - the claw however dies.
I really hope this Minmatar flavor of the month crap will end soon and shift to something else, I notice the price of my gear going up!

I dont know where you ppl get your stats from about which ship is the fastest and which not but instead of playing around with quickfit i suggest you equip and fly one and then see how fast it goes in reality.
I fly a crusader without the snake implants and i reach a speed of 12km/s
You just need the appropriate navigation skills all at lvl 5 and need to equip the ship with the proper rigs and mods. I dont use it for pvp tacling but its awsome fun teasing gatecampers
In theory the claw would be the fastest seeing it has 4 low slots and a base speed of 475m/s instead of the base speed of the cruasader having 455m/s ******************************
