This. Please CCP listen to this words if you are considering a translation of EVE to the spanish language. ( According to Wikipedia, the second most natively spoken language in the world, btw :P ) Please, don't do what Blizzard did with WoW back in 2007... /facepalm
Some examples:
We don't call "Control de da+Ĥos" to a Damage Control module. We just call it by it's english (spanglish) name: "Damaggge Control" (we pronounce the g like in spanish... like if you where preparing to spit from your palate)
We don't say "endurecedor" or "curtidor" when refering to a Hardener. We just say "Jardener" (Again, the J as if it were a g (spit!))
Microwarp has no posible and "likeable" translation. Covops, Blockade runner, smartbomb, afterburner, tracking, railgun, nos... a lot should not be translated, some because the literal translation has no sense when refering to spaceships, or because they sound very silly. But mainly because we refer to them in english words.
But! there are a few that we do translate, like: Hybrids to "hibridas", Projectile(s) to "proyectil(es)", bomb to "bomba"...
Anyway, this needs to be done through the community, so that new players and old players can understand each other. (That was what happened in WoW, the first years were a mess when naming things between the english-client players and the spanish-client players and none of the two parts understood each other clearly...)
So, please...

Not every spanish people are from Mexico, you know... so please, learn some geography. I am from Spain, Europe. And i speak english too and i like it. ;P
The thing is, if CCP has translated to other languages from other countries, why don't do it for one of the main languages? I don't mind playing everything in english (that's just me), but if they want more people coming to the game, having more options will attract players that now are ignoring the game, because it is english-only. (for them at least) |
