Ok heres the story,
I'm at the Amarr's second space station (the one after you finish the tutorial) and there are no ships in sight as I undock.
In front of the entrance there is a cargo container, so i scan the area and see no one, then I go carefully over to the container open it get the warning (scoff at it =P) and take out a shiny looking large laser (cant remember what it was called), all of a sudden a frigate appears above me and scrambles me (how it got there I have no idea), however the pilot must have forgot about the large station about 10 meters behind me -.-. So being the smart cookie I am, i simply turned around and docked.
Now can someone tell me why someone would go to all that trouble and forget to pack a web? After the 15 min thingo expired I went out and hungaround for a bit, and sure enough it happened again, someone undocked, waited, and opened the container, the frig appears and the person just docks again.
Are some people really that dumb?

probably cause he was in a cov ops and didnt have the mids for a web. also being at a noob station he would be guessing most people would panic and not know what to do when they get targeted being so new to the game

I was under the impression that it was against the rules to do this in newb systems, did that rule go away with the old newbie complexes?

Nah wasn't cov ops., looked like an Incursus to me.
I though it was norty to this at a noob station too, but what I'd like to know is how he suddenly appeared !

u can fit cloaks to other ships, but there would be a 30 second(or whatever penalty that cloak has) before he could lock...so maybe he just undocked, or warped in on a bookmark to land on the can?

Yeah I think he must have warped, because the container was level with the little tube thingy that you undock from and he appeared near the top of the station.

Edited by: Devian 666 on 13/08/2007 03:18:39 Doing this in 1.0 to new characters is naughty. He's unlikely to be cloaked as the station radius is very large and would decloak any cloaked ship. That and a cov ops pilot would use a stealth bomber for insta pop.
I agree I don't have the features to be a holoreel star. Most people have missed the point that this is Mobsters Online and that carebears are at the bottom of the foodchain. |

Next time he does it in a 1.0 newb system, petition him. It is ok to do this in any place but in newb station systems and deadspace training plexes.

Sounds like loads of fun.......
Someone who goes out of there way to pop a 3 day old newb, with the container bait has gotta be a newb himself.
Yes please do petition this character, i think he is of need of a GM spanking. Hells

That actualy sounds like griefing to me. I cant see where either the fun or the profit is in this. And thats said from someone who hunts 'bears for a living.
If he continues to do this I'd suggest a petition.
On the other hand.. this might be a good way to filtrate out "unwanted players". But I'm not gonna elaborate on that.

Ppl who put cans infront of station to kill noobs should get some kind of penalty from GMs if caught tbh.
Ive got an alt hauling stuff in a trade hub from time to time. And it annoys the hell out of me, when I have to spend a couple of extra minutes each haul cause some ******s put containers infront of the station, making me bump the continers and all other ships that gets caught in the container.
I think its griefing and I petition anyone I see doing it, even if it isnt in a noob system. Cause putting the can there to kill noobs making alot pf other players having to bump around like that, serves no other purpose then to grief ppl IMO.

As far as i know you are correct. This is total griefing and really spoils the game for newcomers. As soon as they enter low sec or the proper systems then it's fair game but in noob system i believe it is a bannable offence.

Im not above a nice gank and have probably killed hundereds of noobs in my days of pirating, but intentionally going out of your way to grief newcommers is really pathetic.
So petition the guy and get him banned or atleast a wake up call from a gm so that he stops his pathetic way of playing.

I'm not above smashing newbies in the teeth should they ignore the warning 'hey, this is low sec...you're likely to get shot at'. But to can bait at a noobstation? Even I've got some standards.
(I'm willing to blow up noobships tho, they are kind of crunchy, and on occasion come with really interesting and expensive fittings :)

last time I saw some one do this...I stole from his can got him to 5% struct (it was a very thin line hard to tell so im estimating) then ransomed him for 10M, poped him and gave the money back to the people I saw him pop. (Call me an ass for dishonoring this ransom but it strikes a nerve when i see people picking on noobs). BTW this guy was doing it in a caracal and was 1 month old so I figured he'd been playing long enough to know better...

Now, you all thought the other ones where bad?
Well... at the Chaven VII (or is it VIII?), the Amarr starting area basically, I was checking out a corp's office there and I noticed 3-4 containers sitting there with the words free stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! on all of em. I couldn't see anything other than the Amarr starter frigs there so I docked and went about my bussiness.
When I undocked there was a new ship and 2 wreckages next to a container... thats right someone was baiting people that have just started playing the game, good first impression eh?

Not long after that i saw him pop another frig, I was seriously considering getting a group together and taking him, but I didn't think anyone for a few systems would have tackling equipment and he was flying a heavy assault ship.

Please, the next time you witness something like this going on petition the char doing this for harassment.
Can-baiting noobs in starter systems is a bannable offense. If you are not in a starter system then petition him for dropping jetcans too close to a station exit, that is also a bannable offense.
Either way, EVE will have 1 less noob griefer and be that little bit better for it.

Why do they bother?
Because they want to be nasty, ebil, pie-wats, but they're too afraid to leave the cotton-wool padded safety of High Sec. To make up for it, they make themselves feel all big and strong by killing lots of new players who don't know how to properly defend themselves.

My favorite is when they name the can "YOU" or "YOU - hurry fight back!" or something similar, then proceed to warp scramble the can when someone un docks.

Get a frig and do nothing but tank armor and shield on it so it won't instapop, instadock when shot, get out and proceed with the smackdown.
